Sadly, Fundamentalist Christians often think they are the only Christians, and any criticism of their beliefs is an attack on Christianity. Sorry, but there are lots of Christians who are not homophobes, and it is OK to call a homophobe a homophobe. Calling a racist a racist is not anti-Christian rhetoric; calling an anti-Semite and anti-Semite is not anti-Christian rhetoric--even though both racists and anti-Semites have used the Bible to justify their prejudice.

If a person holds deeply-held religious beliefs that people of different races are inequal and based on that deeply-held religious belief chooses to discriminate against African Americans in employment opportunity, or housing, does the law carve out an exception for him? No. Can his church discriminate in hiring? Yes, to a degree. Civil rights remain civil rights, and people are free to hold whatever religious beliefs they choose.
