In a fight i recommend kicking a guy in the head if hes on the ground over trying to get him in a lock. at least it ends a fight quick. Why do you think it says RIP Pride in the end? The Fertitta's, co-owners of Zuffa which owns UFC bought Pride and then laid off all of the employees shortly after. This ended Pride completely. Most employees then formed "Dream" under parent company K-1. This is where Fedor and most other Pride fighters will be fighting from now on. Elbows were not allowed in PrideFC, but Curb Stomps/Soccer kicks were. Likewise, jack hammering was outlawed in UFC but legalized in PrideFC. Knees were far more liberal in Pride as well. That's pretty much where the rules differ between UFC and Pride.
If you're going to get kicked in the head while you're down, you'll have to scramble up. There's a way to get up from guard to defend yourself, but you'll have to be quick. Shogun was good at stopping that.
You have to train to fight under Pride rules. The subtle differences make a big deal in prize fighting.
I'd contest that Pride fighters were faster and more aggressive, because once you got knocked down, it was game over. There wasn't much in terms of recovering from a knock down unless it didn't bother you that much.
way back when MMA first started being broadcasted on TV it was VERY brutal because the producers thought that's what people wanted to see. then people started to complain that it was too bloody and unorthodox so other organizations like UFC and WEC were formed with different rules. Pride fighting was older than these and kept their original rules.

I agree. Dana White is all about business. All he cares about is money and he'll do whatever to get the most of it. For example: Brock Lesnar getting a title shot after only 2 wins and 1 loss? That doesn't make sense. But, the publicity UFC gets by having an ex-WWE wrestler as champion is what Dana wanted. I wish Pride was still around...

@XxGODFATH3RxX the unified rules set applied in the ufc are a pile of crap, the contenders dont have to defend agains kicks and knees against the head while they are on the ground, you are not allowed to throw a vertical ellbow, a stupid takedown counts as hell even if the guy who did it couldnt use it to inflict damage ( staller point system ), like this rule there are several rules that prevent fighters from fighting and make pointfighters to concentrate on gaining points.

Why do you think it says RIP Pride in the end? The Fertitta's, co-owners of Zuffa which owns UFC bought Pride and then laid off all of the employees shortly after. This ended Pride completely. Most employees then formed "Dream" under parent company K-1. This is where Fedor and most other Pride fighters will be fighting from now on. To me it kinda seems like UFC is trying to become a MMA monopoly.

Elbows were not allowed in PrideFC, but Curb Stomps/Soccer kicks were. Likewise, jack hammering was outlawed in UFC but legalized in PrideFC. Knees were far more liberal in Pride as well. That's pretty much where the rules differ between UFC and Pride.
If you're going to get kicked in the head while you're down, you'll have to scramble up. There's a way to get up from guard to defend yourself, but you'll have to be quick. Shogun was good at stopping that.

You have to train to fight under Pride rules. The subtle differences make a big deal in prize fighting.
I'd contest that Pride fighters were faster and more aggressive, because once you got knocked down, it was game over. There wasn't much in terms of recovering from a knock down unless it didn't bother you that much.

way back when MMA first started being broadcasted on TV it was VERY brutal because the producers thought that's what people wanted to see. then people started to complain that it was too bloody and unorthodox so other organizations like UFC and WEC were formed with different rules. Pride fighting was older than these and kept their original rules.
