You said this exactly how I've always taken the quote! I agree with you entirely. I think most people just get caught up in the media hype and miss the whole point! But he WAS right!
Just watched your John Lennon video. I immediately noticed something that you have in common with John Lennon, i don't know if you ever been told this before, but here it is: You speak from the heart. That is pleasant to see, no matter what the subject matter may be. You would be a good counselor and i think would make people of any age feel better no matter what their situtation was in life. I enjoyed your talk very much, thank you.
John Lennon attacked Christianity. He got put through the mud for it. You added "to kids" which is putting words in his mouth. Him talking about the downfall of a major religion is probably one of the most bigoted things ever said by a celebrity.
Thanks for giving us the whole quote... So much fuss has been made about the smallest part of the quote. It is amazing how the media can take something so simple and make so much bad publicity out of it... Fascinating stuff!
30??? Damn. You're right; it does not feel like that long ago. Up until very recently (like within the last two years) thinking about John Lennon's death always made me cry. Now his iniquitous, reprehensible, and inane murder has become one of many such ignoble crimes against humanity and I only cry when I hear IMAGINE. In my mind Lennon was (IS!) a prime example of shinning humanity - I could glimpse mankind's potential when he spoke.
i definitely remember when he died - i was in middle school. they played strictly beatles songs all day on the radio (as they had previously done with elvis as well). i started listening to the beatles around the age of 4 (my uncle gave me Rubber Soul), and they were my absolute favorite band. i think i'll have to thank him for that the next time i see him.
"I always remember to thank Jesus for the end of my touring days; if I hadn't said that the Beatles were 'bigger than Jesus' and upset the very Christian Ku Klux Klan, well, Lord, I might still be up there with all the other performing fleas! God bless America. Thank you, Jesus."
That man was one of the greatest musicians who ever lived.

The good and the brave die young... it's funny now to think our government spied on him, seeing him as threat.
He made a great contribution to the music industry, no doubt about it.

Thanks for posting GC. I was 12 when he died. Those words he said way back then were indeed profound and honest.
