  • 50% training 50% nutrition. Enough said

  • good stuff dude!!!

  • thanks for the tip man, i dont have time to be eating these 5-7 meals each day, its hard enough to get my main 3 with just school and work going on

  • Steve ur right except those huge guys use roids avoiding catabalism and they carbs load the day before a game.

  • but..body performance tv?....not saying your "wrong"....but after really intense workouts,i mean really intense...isnt it possible to lose muscle mass since you use up all your carbs and begin burning fat and muscle....it would probably take more than 3 hours im sure, probably a marathon actually to start losing muscle, but perhaps if you exercise intensely a few times a day,it might be beneficial to have some sort of small, continuous carbohydrate source to snack on,like jolly ranchers or lemons

  • hey steve im a big fan what do you think about juice fasts

  • @TonyIshmeal1981 Thanks! Still not as smart as a well balanced low fat, lower calorie diet.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV thanks steve i think im going to try the subway diet with 7 days cardio 2 days weights

  • did this guy really say no one got in shape by eating? WOW this guy is fail..

  • @Louisg271 That's right. Eating will help with weight loss BUT there is no food that will improve your aerobic conditioning. And you can eat all the protein you want and it won't build one ounce of muscle with out exercise.

  • @Louisg271 Actually, his response proves that your comment is an EPIC FAIL!

  • @Louisg271 Actually, his response proves that your comment is an EPIC FAIL!

  • You know what you need in your diet? More Iron! MORE IRON! Lift More IRON!! That makes a difference. Hahaha, I love this fucking guy.

  • hahahaha its that a fucking alien ? EVERY HEARD OF FUCKING JOGGING FATASS? and stop eat ... for god sake

  • Everyone always fails to think about the fact we sleep an average of about 9 hours a night...... thats 3 sets of 3 hours were not eating , we would be stick skinny if that myth were true...

  • @thickpooxbox360 sleep is different than awake, the body is pretty complex. I'm on the fence, people say protein every 3 hours, or your body's going to eat your muscle for it's amino needs. Probably true for a few grams. I think the main concern is that muscle growth is delayed until later. Ignore your nutrition and you shortchange your progress.

  • @grayandgray yea thats true your musle wont waste away just cos you didnt get a meal in. i have made my biggest gains (while loosing) weight while eating 3 big meals a day (paleo) its about controlling hormones and food quality more than anything else

  • Ok but he's downplaying the nutrition part, nobody ever got huge if the nutrition wasn't there. You can lift till your blue in the face but it's pointless if you don't eat right. You grow outside the gym when your body is repairing from the FOOD. Jay Cutler had a video on how a lot of kids start working out without even knowing what a carb is. And that they should get a workout diet before they start the weights.

  • "You know what you need in your diet? More IRON! More IRON! Lift more IRON!" hahaha hilarious :D LOL.... that's some great stuff. I love Steve's face when he says "More iron!"

  • Scooby is good but he doesn't know shit compared to Steve.... Muscles are made in the kitchen! Getting in shape starts in the kitchen! ok believe that lol

  • Haha, this guy is so cool.

  • ok. if u work out ur body needs to repair, if u dont eat food how is that posible. to be honnest ever since iv been going to the gym 2 years ago i started eating every three hours, now i cant go longer then 3 hours with out eating cuz im always hungry, i use to be that short fat kid, now im that jack short kid, i followed scoobys edvice then i came accrose ur edvice, ur edvice is alot easyer to follow and do, but scoobys was alot harder to grasp, but it was worth it to me in the long run.

  • @IPWNBXRmash That's because I'm smater than Scooby! :O)

  • @BodyPerformanceTV well to me u two have the same knolage, but u just say eat what ever just in lower portions. scooby tells u what to eat and the reasons for it, thats the only hard part, getting the meals he sugests to the portions that work for u, the work outs are not hard to follow. hes way worked for me. i see people asking what should they eat on ur video responses but u make videos saying, its not what u eat its how much u take in. come on now, they could be eatin ice cream for all u know

  • @IPWNBXRmash You should enter a spelling B. There is more info out there than Scooby and all these silly youtube channels you know.

  • @TheMusclesmagee ooo so BodyperformanceTV is the number one ea? first of all he dont show u proper ways to work out he just tells u what work outs today, he says it dont matter what u eat??? what is that all about, u need to know what to eat to gain lean muscle and lose fat. "dont matter what you eat its how much u take in" sure thats for fat lose but damn not to build muscle. listin u can follow who ever u want, im just saying theres alot more channles with alot more info.

  • @IPWNBXRmash Forget the stupid youtube channels where you get the opinions and advice of one person. Just join some forums where you can get the advice and opinions of hundreds of people.

  • @TheMusclesmagee yea hundreds of people and prob most of them are not even worth paying attention to, becuase there wanna be jacked kids. when u see them on youtube u know there not a joke and they tell u step by step how things are supost to be, insted of reading bullshit on a form and hopfully it made sense. stick to ur forms if thats what helps u, youtube got me from 150 pounds to 180 pounds pure muscle at 5foot 6. and 8% body fat, certain things work for other people, u like to read, i watch

  • @IPWNBXRmash Seriously? Nobody that takes bodybuilding serious would use "youtube" I mean just look at this dude, come on. When I say forums I don't mean gay kid forums like bodybuilding..com.

  • @TheMusclesmagee Youtube was a building block for me and got me started, when they show u perfect form for work outs and u see it, other then read it, it makes alot more sense, i also use youtube to find out new routines instead of using the same workouts every week, i take bodybuilding seriously, im even going pro soon, so dont judge the way other do there shit, it obviously worked for me. i dont get all my info off youtube, other pro builders at my gym give edvice also,

  • @IPWNBXRmash lol...Oh you are gonna be an IFBB pro soon? I didn't realize you just won a national level competition. Please post pics if you are going pro.

  • @TheMusclesmagee lmao, im no roid user so no. im going for Mr natural. u can stop posting now, ur making ur self look like a idiot, stop hating u fat slob. that prob what u are. MR. jacked wanna be on youtube, f.o bitch.

  • @IPWNBXRmash Your height and weight are no where near pro size, even for natural. Stop being silly.

  • @TheMusclesmagee Of course ud say that, just for the fact ur diet sucks dick and u cant get results, plus ill take that as a compliment just another hater on youtube, w.e have fun with ur commenting, i got better things to do then argue with a 12 year old on youtube. peace.

  • @IPWNBXRmash When you win your first Sandow, hit me up.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV SCOOBY WILL ALWAYS BE THE KING!!!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV

i know it was just a typo, but 'smater' takes away from your point haha

  • All Steve says makes sense. I studied medicine, read physiology in detail, but I've yet to come across all these muscle loss myths. In fact, muscle loss starts significantly about after 7 days only if nothing is consumed. Otherwise, it's just turnover (loss + rebuild = no net loss). If you work out, muscle building is more than loss, causing net gain. Eat healthy, but don't be perfectionist. Its worrying with this mentality, many strength trainers might end up becoming obsessive.

  • Sorry Steve but im curious to know i have been getting results at the gym and im still getting huge results i love smoking but i like looking good better. will kicking the habit cause me to gain more?

  • and when u sleep u dont eat 8 hours so ofc u dont lose muscle when u dont eat 3 hrs

  • "Nobody ever got in shape from eating"...STEVE, YOU'RE SO COOL (no sarcasm)

  • @Palalalala22 Thanks!

  • @Palalalala22 He is brutally honest funny sometimes. I loved the video where he shot down the common misconception that we constantly need to drink water to lose weight and stay healthy! That mentality always annoyed me. Whatever happened to drinking water when you feel like it - when your brain tells you it's time to hydrate? There's emotional eating, and now there's emotional water drinking too... so many people have guilt issues related to not drinking water every 5 seconds to be healthy.

  • @Palalalala22 hahaha I love you steve !

  • Absolutely 100% spot on. Keep it simple... Do what you need to do when you need to do it!

  • i'm actually searching for ways to lose muscle..any help please

  • @musclemat wtf

  • well i don,t know when i start eating every 3 hours i see the gains that stay forever how ever one time i wait like 7 hours from 1 meal to another and the next day i saw muscle lost or it was fat loss or water loss i don,t know i know that my stomach looks the same but my biceps DON,T

  • fuck ive wasted years

  • Glad i embarked on these videos, Ive been listening to all the myths.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV I do worry about that alot Steve. It makes me misrable and keep worrying about it, because I just started bbing 2 weeks ago and the guys that gave me advice told me to eat over my calorie maintenance level in order to keep the muscle. Is this true?

  • @visionimagify No, that's such BS! Muscle grow from lifting weights, not eating. Just workout hard and consistently. Your appetite will pick up naturally. If you force food it will just make you fat. Muscle grow slowly and don't need that much protein or extra calories.

  • you know what you need in your diet? More iron, More Iron lift more iron

  • Even if you went into starvation mode it would burn off your fat not your muscle.

  • @MrAsaphelps actually thats bears humans are differant

  • @Ugbar33

No that's humans too. You will burn off some muscle, but the reason your body stores fat is to have energy when you don't have food. If you go into starvation mode your body will burn off mostly body fat since that is the reason your body stores fat in the first place.

  • Can someone tell me PLZZZZZZ wht did this guy say between 0:45 - 0:55?

Did he say three different things or two?

    I think he siad you need;

    - to workout more

    - need iron in ur diet

    - and lift more iron (meaning lift more weights)

Is that right or did he say only two things!

  • thanks man

  • wow man that makes me feel alot better. i was going crazy about diets

  • Hi Steve, great videos, very informative. Just a quick question, i am currently powerlifting, and as you can imagine want to increase in strength and make some solid gains. Surely if i want to increase in strength i must eat every 3 hours?, or is this still a myth? Thanks.

  • @BDFPA Myth! It's the AVERAGE of all the calories eaten over the day and during the week.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV So your saying that even if I get hungry after 3 hours when I am sore, I won't start to lose muscle?

It's the Number Of Calories overall in days to a week that matters?

  • @HomicidalDavid I don't think it is scientifically correct to use the words "lose muscle". The muscle cell either grows or shrinks and its size is transient. That is all.

  • Hey man, your enthusiasm is really encouraging. Thanks!

  • @Tarex3 Thanks! It's just the truth. I also host a BlogTalkRadio com show. You can listen there or on iTunes. Search Steve Turano. • hey what if you dont eat , befor you go to sleep ? you well loss Muscle mass there ?

  • @DaOsman1 No. It's the total calories you eat in the day.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV so its the calories i get throughout¨the day , that well biuld muscle ? thanks

  • Hi Steve, you talk a lot about not worrying about what you eat, rather, it's all about working out as that's what builds muscle. Yes, working out triggers muscle growth in the body, but food fuels the process. How can one possibly put on weight (muscle) without a caloric surplus? Ya, many people want to LOSE weight and put on muscle. But a lot of guys like me want to GAIN weight. I slay myself in the gym and it wasn't until I force fed myself 6 times a day that I made any gains.

  • hes true.. your wrong.. try workkout 3 hours a day and tell me abt it after a month.

  • This guy is the bolix, confirms all i believe. There is no quick solution, you wanna loose waight you must exersize.A diet plays pretty much no role unless you do so.

  • @dougproductions12 TRUE! People who attempt weightloss by diet alone are thee highest category for failure rate. People who only incorporate exercise do much better. And of course people who incorporate both diet and exercise have the best and longest results.

  • @brushfour44

Amen to that. Before my training program i dieted on and off for a while and got hardly nothing! I started a training program 2 months ago id ive lost a shed load of fat and gained a fair amount of muscle, so my progress is the proof for your comment!

  • just eat whenever your hungry... and then go run a mile not a big deal if you can just work the fat off

  • COMN lmao

  • iron?

    i don't understand that.

can someone explain me that please!!!!

  • i love this guy

  • Steve you are the man! love your body.

  • I think this notion that you lose muscle if you don't eat every three hours is total crap too. Yes, it would be ideal eating every three hours, and it is true that after weight training there is a two-hour "window of opportunity" to take in your carbs and protein but losing muscle after three hours is just nonsense.

  • ahaha i totally love this guys confidence. CMON PLEASE! haha. lift more iron, LIFE MORE IRON lol. You can tell he's got massive amount of experience

  • @xxkevinkimxx Thanks! Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve

  • when i was in the military i had a max or 3 meals a day, sometimes only 1 meal a day and that was an mre. we constantly forced marched or ran everywhere not to mention the actual workout. there becomes a point where you indurance actually increases and fatigue gets blunt when your body gets used to it. no you probably wont build muscle like this but again it all depends on the amount of calories and the load you have on your body.

  • if i am training for endurance and eating for endurance i am going to build that, if i am training for muscle mass and eating for muscle mass then i am going to gain it. but either way a week or or so from working out or missing meals here and there will not make you lose huge amounts of muscle. yoru body is going to recover as long as the food you take in it your maintainence or above number or calories it doesnt matter WHEN you take them in, just as long as you take them in

  • Naturally! Exactly. So many people stuff it down their throats forcing themselves.

    That is terrible.

Evolution wise it makes sense for for the human body to react this way. That is why we have a hunger signal.

  • i not been working out the upper body for 4 week only the lower body i like to know how much musle mass have i loss by not working the upper body ...

  • As a very healthy eater,...natural whole foods etc., I can tell you from experience that you can put on just as much strength and muscle from regular old food...and yes, some crappy food. I wish my natural protein, whole grain and vegetable diet gave me more muscle and strength gains in the gym,....but it does not. Nitrogen balance has nothing to do with it. My healthy diet is good for nutrition and helping to lower bodyfat. Strength and msucle gains have to do with IRON work in the gym.

  • And for the record, as far as this video is concerned, Steve is right, you will not lose muscle after 3 hours. However, it is a physiological fact, that in order to maximize muscle growth, one needs to be in a positive nitrogen balance which begins to dissipate after about 3 hours. Go a whole day without eating. You may not "necessarily" lose any muscle, but I guarantee you won't be building any either, which is what most guys are after. Love Your Body...

  • Steve never said going a whole day without eating and you will be fine. He is basically saying if you miss a meal and go a extra 4-5 hours you will not start burning muscle. And new research shows real foods like meat last in the body WAY longer then we once thought. For example casein protein lasts for over 3-4 hours in the body releasing amino acids maintaining a nitrogen balance. And the snicker bar comment steve was trying to make a point that it does not matter what you eat to gain weight.

  • Also he is making the point no one in america is dying from lack of protein. A normal diet provides MORE than enough protein for muscle growth. So the extra chicken breast even though its healthy will put weight on you. Carbohydrates actually play a hugr role in muscle growth, they fuel the process leaving the small amount of proteins for repair. Only when you become an olympian it may make a difference what you eat.

  • @SpartanLife1821 And If you read the first line of my sentence I said I agree with Steve. No one said that if you don't eat for 3 hours you're going to lose muscle, and anyone who believes this is moronic. Secondly, I didn't say that food doesn't last over 3 hours in the body. I said that the nitrogen levels in your body begin begin to dissipate after about 3 hours. Lastly, its does matter "what" you eat. If you don't understand this concept, then you'll never be "truly" in shape. Love Your Body

  • To loose weight it does not matter what you eat. Obviously a healthy diet is better i agree for a variety of health reasons, anyone who sais otherwise is a plain wrong. Nobody ever said a healthy diet is not better than a un-healthy one. But when it comes to weight loss its about taking in less claories. Then when people see sucess they can start to make bigger changes. And i never knew nitrogen levels disipate after 3 hours so i guess i learned something new thank you.

  • Well maybe its because of that the TRAIN really really hard and nothing else!?

  • " Stop listening to Miz! "

    ROFL!

    5 Stars for that alone.

  • Ya this guy is right. you need to work out. But how do your muscles repair? BY EATING!!!! The more nutrients you give the muscle the better off you will be.

  • Your muscles only need a certain amount of nutrients daily. It's smaller then you realize. In bodybuilding unfortunately, the whole " more is better idea " mantra wins the day,..but is ultimately incorrect and can be the downfall of most bodybuilders.

  • @Irodam and when do you eat? When you're hungry. When are you hungry? When your body needs nutrients. He's not saying "don't eat" he's saying to worry less about your diet (eating different things is a lot easier than working out and people don't want to hear that doing something that's easier doesn't really do shit they wanna be told that the easiest way will work).

  • Man Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler should have been listening to this guy the whole time. As far as diet goes, they do the exact opposite of what this guy says. And for some reason they are the biggest guys in the world. hmm

  • Yea, you're right, their diet is why Ronnie Coleman has HGH gut, thus, we should all not listen to this guy and instead, listen to them.

  • Ok you are right. Coleman has no Idea what he us doing and he only got that big because of hgh. Come on man. All of the IFBB guys eat 6 or 7 meals a day and take amino acids through out the day. Why is that all of the biggest guys in the world eat this way? Do you see a coincidence here?

I have been working out for 5 years while eating 6 meals a day and I have seen outstanding results. Maybee I should continue to work out and deprive my body of nutrients. That will probably work.

  • ok but listen fool. If you overeat, but your body can't soak in the protein, or you don't work it off (as in, you don't use HGH and steroids and insulin to enhance it) it goes to waste. That's why they can eat that much. Are you on roids or HGH? If not, your body probably can't biologically soak in that protein and you end up just pissing it back out or it turns into fat.

  • Dude if you think that depriving your body of nutrients works for you than keep doing that. As for me, I'm listening to my body and achieving excellent results.

  • @Irodam lol deprive? NOBODY in America is deprived of nutriants.

  • @Irodam you are a fool don't compare ronnie coleman, and those ifbb pro... steroid, steroid, steroid...

  • @deonvan Ok dummy, I am going to tell you like I told the other moron. Yes I realize that IFBB guys use steroids. But they are also professional athletes that take their diet plans from scientists that spend their lives researching muscle growth. So steroids or not. Supplying your muscles with the necessary nutrients is the way to make the most out of your workouts.

  • @Irawdom i agree. but becareful with getting fat. plus why worry about having to eat every 3 hours for the rest of your life for muscle? i know of a guy who took steroid and he doesn't eat often compare to his other competetor eats every 3 hour who also took steroid. guessed who came first place? yeap the guy who took steroid and eat 3 square meals a day won the competetion!!. but i'm not saying is wrong to eat every 3 hours though. in fact is pretty healthy but you have to worry this and that.

  • @Irawdom What Steve is saying is there are already plent of nutrients being supplied to your muscles by way of the average diet. You're getting more then enough protein for sure. Hopefully the majority of your carbohydrates are complex and you get some fat that is for the most part Omega-3 rich. Eating every 3 hours does nothing more to build muscle...nothing. All it does is keep you satisfied so you don't come to any meal starving. Coming to any meal starving may encourage you to overeat.

  • and BTW, I've went from 125 to 206 in 5 years and I have a lot of muscle, and I don't and never have eaten 5 or 6 meals a week.

  • And by the way. IFBB bodybuilders can no longer take roids after getting their pro card. Now, They have clearly taken steroids before I'm not saying they haven't. But once they turn pro, they get random drug tests with no notice.

Every pro body builder eats at least six meals a day. There are scientists whos only job is to research this shit. But you have it right I guess. You watched a Youtube video about it. It has to be accurate right

  • @Irodam They also have things that mask the drugs int heir systems. I do think I have it right because, as I've said, I went from about 120 to 205 in 4 years, all healthy, lean muscle mass. I don't over eat. I eat when I'm hungry.

You can't compare elite athlete training to the everyday man. Example: Pro sprinters only really tax their body sprinting once every 3-4 days because their body's get exhausted. However, most people's don't, so most sprinters should do it every other day.

  • Man you are just reaching now. When you start eating 6 meals a day, your body will adapt and get hungry every 3 hours. And dude you are 20 years old. Clearly you are going to gain weight during that period in your life regardless. So your argument changed from IFBB guys taking roids to now they are elite athletes. They are masking the drugs? Then wouldn't someone have been caught after all these years of testing? Dude, its like I said if you think that works for you, then keep doing it.

  • @Irodam It's genetics. Most people's body's won't respond to 6 meals a day like a pro body builder's will.

  • And these athletes don't eat that way because they are pro's. They eat like that because it is the best thing to do. When you break down your muscle tissue you need to build that muscle back up with the proper amount of carbs and protien. When you build muscle and wait a long period of time to eat, your body has a negative nitrogen balance. So that means that your body is using your muscles for fuel. The idea is to keep your body in a positive nitrogen balance at all times.

  • @Irodam whatever, we aren't going to agree. I think you're splitting hairs with when you eat. if you eat 3 times a day, and sleep 10 hours a day (which I do because I like to sleep), you're eating every 4 hours or so, which isn't bad. My point is that everyone's body is different. If you're body can handle and manufacture all those nutrients into muscle, then good for you. Mine can't, so I eat the way I do.

  • Steroids are part of the IFBB period. If steroids were banned than why does jay cutler get bigger ever year along with kai greene and every other guy? Even dorian yates plus many other IFBB guys admit drugs are in the sport, its not a secret. If steroids were banned then skip latour the natural bodybuilder would be competing with these "natural" guys and natural bodybuilding federations dont need to exist anymore.

  • @SpartanLife1821 Ok, if you actually read my post I never said these guys never used steroids. I said once a guy gets his pro card he gets random drug tests with no notice. Clearly every guy on the IFBB stage has done roids before.

  • They have done roids before, but they also have to keep on taking roids to keep up thier gains. Even with thier pro card they are still taking massive amounts of drugs. Even bob chicolaro the IFBB spokesperson talks about steroids in the sport in his articles. Now i am curious about these random drug tests i admit its fishy. And its fishy how in every MR olympia lineup nobody has been busted, when they were all juiced to the max.

  • @SpartanLife1821 They do not have to keep taking roids to keep up their gains. They have built a solid foundation with hard work roids and diet. Now they build on the foundation. They still take crazy supplements to raise Nitric Oxide levels in the body along with creatine and massive amouts of carbs and protien. But with the strict drug use policy in the IFBB I just don't think they would risk getting caught and tarnishing everything they have worked for you know.

  • @Irawdom look at kevin levrone, he is all natural now and has had awesome transformations on his physique over the past year training naturally. yes he has awesome genetics, btu the muscle he built with steroids wasnt ALLLL synthetic,

  • his natural genetics allowed him to build muscle to. he has great muscle memory along with just about every other pro out there. their genetics and muscle memory is what lets them stand above the rest. you would be suprised how many people could have a body like that if they actually dedicated themselves to that goal. nobody wants to train, eat and live like that 24/7 so in turn they dont get results like that

  • @Irawdom Strict drug policy in the IFBB? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

  • @Anglefan12 If you want to believe that eating 5-7 "clean" meals per day, EVERYDAY, is "easy" then go right ahead. Anyone can go to a gym. I see it all the time, fat guys, skinny guys, muscular guys, at the gym working out. EVERYDAY. How many of those guys do you think have a consistently clean diet? I assure you not many. Have you ever been in any bodybuilding contests, or know someone that has? If so you would know that the hardest part by FAR is the diet. Not the lifting... that's a given

  • The diet isn't that hard to actually do, it's expensive. The diet is a hard part, but it's definately not as hard as properly working out. Those fat guys at the gym are also fat because they've been doing the same workout routine, every week, for years and never push themselves. It's a mix.

  • @anglefan12 the only reason somone is fat is because they are taking in more calories then they burn. The muscle changes by adapting to a new stress or muscular load, not a new routine. And diet does not have to be expensive, i switched to skim milk from 2% and that was free. I decided to drink water instead of pop and that was free also. Plus i saved money by eating less foods. fruits and veggies are way cheaper than candies or fillers also.

  • Well, I'm REALLY poor. I eat a lot of raman, cheap lunch meat (probably a lot of preservatives) and canned vegetables (more preservatives than nutrients). So to me, a healthy diet is very expensive.

  • @Anglefan12 You say that eating 5-7 clean meals consistently isn't that hard to do, but I assure you that most can not. Ask people you know that work out, and I assure you that most are more dedicated to the training than the diet. If eating healthy was so easy to do, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic. Yet I see there is no shortage on new signees getting gym memberships.

  • It's easy to eat junk food, but it's not that hard to stop eating junk food. I gave up soda for my new years resolution that year, it's not very hard. It's harder to motivate myself to push hard in the gym. Lots of people go to the gym, but they do the same routine and never push themselves, that's what I was trying to say. If you have the most healthy diet in the world and then keep doing 3 sets of 6-8 on bench with 200, maybe moving up to 205 in a month, you aren't going to see results.

  • @Anglefan12 Firstly, I completely agree with what you're saying. As far as the guys you mentioned that can eat whatever they want, that plays into one of the most important, but often aspects of bodybuilding...Genetics. That is the REAL determining factor as to how much muscle a person is capable of carrying. You can increase the poundages all you want, but sooner or later you're going to hit a wall. All i'm saying is that the "whole" is worth more than the sum of its parts.

  • @Anglefan12 What I mean by this is. Take a "nice" muscular body, which is what "most" guys are in search of. This is the "whole" aspect of the equation. Not take all of the things that go into making that "nice" body: "Intense" training, Diet, Rest, etc. These are the "parts" that make up the "whole". To try and say that one is more important than the other is missing the whole point. They ALL are important, and coincide with one another. Thats how you should be looking it. Instead of focusing

  • @Anglefan12 on what's most important, focus on getting "all" of the elements right. That's the key to a nice, "healthy", body. There Are no shortcuts. And as far as the money is concerned, I fully understand that. No one says that you have to eat filet mignon 5 times a day. The foods that you are eating, are a whole lot better than eating Mcdonald's everyday... Love Your Body;)

  • @Anglefan12 I hear it all the time. Guys in the gym saying they cant give up this or that. Yet they think they can counter that by adding a few more pounds to the squat rack. It just doesn't work like that. Remember, its not just how much you eat, but WHAT you eat. So I respect what Steve is trying to say in essence, but remember to take all advice with a grain of salt and formulate your own LOGICAL opinion. Remember we're talking about someone who compared a chicken breast to a snickers bar: /

  • true, I take everything with a grain of salt. In my opinion, there is NO diet right for everyone. I went to high school with guys who had high muscle density and low bodyfat but ate junk food and soda all the time. My body translates certain foods into fat or muscle differently than yours does. Some people can eat a big bowl of pasta everyday and not see any of it turn to fat, others can't have a sandwhich with too thick of bread without getting a spare tire.

  • absolutely right. The only reason bodbuilders eat 8 meals a day every 3 hrs is because they lift a lot more than the normal person, do a lot more cardio which makes them more hungry

  • The reason they are able to lift alot more is also because of the steroids. And since protein synthesis is faster and abnormal muscle mass is gained, then abnormal eating habbits will also follow, aka more food to supply the growing muscles. Steroid taking bodybuilders have a whole other set of rules to follow.

  • and also since they take alot of protein its hard to consume everything in just 3 meals

  • hellarious guy, need more people like him..

  • Thanks!

  • AMEN! I hate that myth!

  • muscle loss after 3 hours? We sleep for more than 3 hours (usually), and isn't that the time when muscle GROWTH occurs? During recovery.

So according to that logic, dont sleep for more than 2.5 hours or youll lose muscle, oh wait, you wont build muscle either.

Total moron thought of that idea.

  • @DiceEsque Agreed but we also don't use much energy when we sleep now do we? We aren't really using our body at all when we sleep.

  • Steve, Like I commented a while ago..... Well said!! I like your approach, Muscles are earned in the gym!

  • Steve,

    become a beachbody coach!!

  • Someone wrote a few weeks back that my fat loss didn't mean much when I posted that I've lost nearly 5 lbs of fat in 6 months since I removed protein bars/powders from my diet and replaced some of it back with food proteins. Let me tell ya, when you're already lean or single digit bodyfat,..and you lose 5 pounds of fat at that point, IT MEANS A LOT! Visually you look MUCH leaner because you don't have that much fat left on you to begin with. What's more is I bascially did it without even trying.

  • i agree with brushfour and his post. I was obsessed with eating protein every 3-4 hours like 30 grams minimum. I used to go out and bring protein shakes with me at friends houses incase i stayed over 3 hours. And worse of all i was at 15 percent body fat and im 5 10 and a half. honestly i thought id give steves information a try and stop reading silly muscle steroid magazines. now im 185 at 9-10 percent body fat and i no longer worry about getting protein, i simply eat when im hungry.

  • I cringe a bit when I think of all the times I ran out to the health food store in a big hurry to get protein before they closed. I would never defend my actions because I frankly was never quite sure if all this was needed, but better to be safe I thought. I was racing down the highway in a hurry to by extra calories is all I was doing. I'm about your size Spartan, I'm 5,11 1/2 and WAS a LEAN 184.6 lbs. Since I dropped protein bars/powder, I'm now a VERY LEAN 180 lbs. 4.6 lbs. of fat lost!

  • thank you

  • You're welcome!

  • THANKS S-T !!

  • You're welcome!

  • I laughed @ when he said " no,c'mon" great video Steve!

  • Thanks!

  • Rate my routine please.

  • Ain't it great to not worry so much about the small stuff. You can just focus on your training and the diet needed will fall into place. Until I found this site I was subconsiously worried about my daily protein. I thought I'd lose muscle and then have a second response to that lost muscle with a somewhat slower metabolic rate. I stopped worrying about protein and lost NO muscle. Muscles effect on BMR is less then I thought anyway. I can just train, eat, stay lean and not worry! That's a gift.

  • OMG! this vid just threw all my worries away! i realy thought id lose muscle and gain fat if i ddint eat every three hrs which was THE reason i gave up working out, tryin to gain a six pack. THNKS!!

  • You're very welcome. The truth will rid you of worries. AND FAT!

  • that is not true Steve! eating correctly can make some people loose fat but of course as always what you say is really true , working out makes you hungry and it makes you fitt wich leads to a long term benefit!

  • lol " you know what makes you bigger and stronger? workingout" LOL this was so funny i dont know why.

  • In reality, a lot of this depends on your diet and how long you have been training. It is possible to digest muscle (I've personally known cyclists who have done it after a major haul). It is unlikely that people just starting out will have the stamina to make it to this point. If it happens, you WILL notice; but again, it's highly unlikely...

  • Its even dangerous , if you start counting calories and bursn you can end up overtraining.

I did 600 jumps of rope tahts alot , you would think thats safe to do right? NO WORNG you can damage your knee conidtion.. and i almost did.

OVERTRAINING is a fact , and alot of people do that and you see these girls with love handles and some fat coming in weeks andmonths without change even if they can runn like 1 hour fast on the tread. THATS overtraining my friends at best it will make you even fater.

  • LMAO! seriously...

  • Neither your bench press nor your time in the mile will improve from eating. These improve from stressing the body effectively & consistently. ONLY when you BECOME an OLYMPIAN will eating become a factor so that rulles out 99.99% of the public.

  • LOL thats not true. even if your not olympian you need to eat right to grow, i dont know why you just wrote that.

Its as if you imply anyone can do weights and eat beans and poptatoes and bench 100lbs without injuring themselves.

lol eating doe snot matter? for what? lol eating even matters for people who dont workout to have healthy mind and heart and body.

eating right is 1 thing in being a living being. even viruses and bakteria eat right if they dont they cant have energy to recoperate.

  • what do you think this is? COMPETITION who can lift more or run fastest? thats not even bodybuilding. To improve your body has NOTHING TO DO WITH how much you can bench or runn.. its not a competition , if you dont eat right you will not do any of that.

    What a missunderstanding..
