I own one of these amps and I love it. It gets pretty loud, too! And with a treble booster, you retain all the amp's tonal characteristics with lots of saturation and overtones. It has a lot of "touch," too.
this amp isnt really meant for high gain distortion huh? Im looking for a low volume tube amp with good saturation for my bedroom...doesnt seem like theyre many options out there without getting 60 plus watts
Actually, it's quite the opposite. I had to run the volume on the amp at about 1 and then my guitar volume on 6 to get it clean. It's not a metal amp, but I get excellent tube saturation at low volumes just with the amp on 5. I'll try and post a video response to show this.
You`re right it depends on what you need it for but this thing is listed with over 24 pounds weight, costs nearly 700$ in europe and sounds nothing like a jsx when miced or played live.
I´am not bashing on the jsx series in general because the bigger jsx are one of the best sounding amps out there.
Yeah, the Mini is definitely a vintage amp. The JSX head and 2x12 combo both sound amazing. Some of the best clean sounds I've heard. Enjoy it if you end up getting one.
I was about to get one but this vid changed my mind. This thing seriousely needs a bigger speaker and maybe different tubes but that would cost too much so i`ll save it for the real JSX combo.
It definately has potential but takes too much effort and money to get there. So no thx and yes thx for posting this vid.
It all depends on why you would be buying it. I use it when I travel in hotels to practice because you can get 100% tube saturation and keep the volume super low. I also use the direct record out to record. If you have a 4x12 or an oversized 2x12 cabinet, then this thing really rocks through either. I'm going to post a follow up video to this where I show high gain through a bigger cabinet.
The effects loop works a bit different on this amp. The more gain/volume you use on the amp and the more volume you turn up on your guitar, the more you hear what's in the loop. I guess it would also depend on if you're using an external cabinet instead of the 8" internal speaker. I've never tried my Boss GE-7 EQ pedal, but that's what I would suggest.
I was worried about the lack of an EQ when I bought my Mini-C, but I haven't missed it one bit. Also I'd say the 8 inch speaker holds up well even when the amp is cranked. I totally dig this amp!
There's a power sponge on the back that can lower the overall volume of the amp. Since it's a class A single channel amp, it just has one volume knob on the front which increases tube saturation and gain as you turn it up.
Yeah, it is. Nice ear!

Sweet video. Sounds very good for YouTube. Is this through just the videocamera microphone?

Yep. Tried to keep the volume low enough not to clip the microphone.

meta1983 2 years ago 6
if you turn down the power sponge, the sound quality will stay the same?
meta1983 2 years ago
Yeah, the tubes are still getting full power, so the tone is great, but the overall volume is just lowered.
t1r12003 2 years ago
the power on the back controls the volumn?

Great sound for 5 watts. Nice. Wait...is that Billy Squier playing at the end? Where did you find him?

The amp sounds very clean, with and without the gain. Nice playing, too.

Thanks. With the tone at 9, you really get that clean sound.
