Net send is rapidly fading into obscurity because it was retired in Vista/7 (actually, the service it relies on was) and replaced by msg.exe, which has an entirely different syntax. I have a big, fat middle finger for MS for screwing my XP seedbox out of being able to broadcast a message to my win7 desktops/laptops when something goes wrong and it needs attention.

This cmd thing won't work if you or other user running on WinXP SP 2 or higher. You need to enable messenger at "services.msc /s" but it's not recommended if u're connected to internet

Net send was removed from vista sadly. There is an alternative but I haven't found it yet. They have to have an alternative for file sharing reasons.

Yeah, NET SEND was removed in vista, and you might wanna put somthing there there saying the Messenger service has to be running on both yours and the target computer for you to send messages and them to recieve them (and vice versa).

the thing that is going wrong with everyone is that messenger needs to be enabled. to do this: right click on my computer manage computer managment

. then double click services and applications then double click services. and finally right click messenger and enable it

ethernet then. the network i have successfully done it with has network user names. what you may want to do is set up and ad-hoc connection or peer to peer connection. i wish i could tell you how to do this but im not sure how to do this on xp.

I didn't think you could ever do this to XP because of the firewall, I use to use Windows 2000 and you always got messages from peoples programs automatically sending heaps of ads out with net send. I think it is the computer your sending it to not the one sending it, correct me if I'm wrong.

im sure you can do this with XP, however it is sometimes blocked with firewalls as you said but they can easily be disabled if you are an admin user. i have tried net send in both my collage and my 6form. However my 6form eventually blocked it. both the computers in my collage and my 6form run on XP. To be honest i have not heard of adverts being sent via net send actually.

Net send ( Telnet ) is a ofter used method of communicating via computers all the way up to Windows Vista! Means TELNET DOESNT EXIST, but as said, you can download programs that communicate like telnet, thanks...

Gah ekremx2 your forgot tell them about net send. this is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Unless you have a very stupid admin or a brand new one. They probably have that command blocked. heck you can send a popup message to everyone if you want but that gets you in more trouble. why not use a java coded chat program works everytime.
