  • Can this be used on an aux send like the RE20? (The RE20 has a direct mode. If set to on its to be used as an insert and if off it turns it 100% wet)

  • Selling mine: ebay(dot)com/itm/140644032494?#ht_1958wt_1378

  • You only have to press the pedal on the right to witch presets. Not both.

  • Im selling my DD-20 on ebay to fund a larger product. Item Number 300596293523

  • Is this true Bypass?

  • Sock is included?

  • 4:37 Do you mean I can only use the twist setting above the loop? I really need help on this pedal.

  • blablabla without playing....

  • why does this guy breathe really hard and swallow then smack his lips??? Its unbearably annoying

  • compare this with the dl4

    someone help?

  • @coughkidcough1 a friend has the dl4. he says the looper is good, but the tap tempo on it isnt as well working as boss delays. he says theres also a volume drop when you switch through presets.

which is very bad during a gig

  • is there any other delay pedal that has that twist function?

  • is this better than the DD7?

  • @123westy321 IMO it's not. I think two or three dd7s strung together are better than this. I have found that the dd20 degrades the tone on longer delays, unlike a string of dd7s which seem to keep the tone intact, and possibly give you more options for sounds.

  • @123westy321 It certainly is more flexible than a single DD-7, yes. Like Jellogarden has implied, of course two or three DD-7's would be better (or more flexible, rather), but in short, yes, this is better (as it allows more delay time and has a few more options than does the DD-7--not to mention that the double-pedal format allows for some techniques that would only be accessible via "knob twiddling" on the DD-7. Now you can do those things with your feet!).

  • @123westy321 It does what the DD-7 Does and more....

  • what type of power source does this take?

  • is there a way to have the delay not roll over when u turn the pedal off? i can figure it out

  • thanks for posting!

  • When using the SOS mode, how many loops can you have going simultaneously?

  • @lepubicfrenchy6, It's about 40 seconds added together. It's very useful, 40 seconds is more than enough time for anything, unless you are thinking about doing an elaboratly complicated looping performance. Then i suggest you buy one of Boss's actual looping pedals. :\

  • Excellent review/video! Good job!

  • Brilliant review, thank you!

  • i like your socks... haha. ^^ ~ seriously though, thanks for the video. I am very interested in this unit so i needed a very thorough video.

  • Anyone who is contemplating buying this, definetely should buy this. It is well worth it. Just buy it trust

  • Is this very noisy with distrotion and high gain?

  • @posiedonpowertrio Short answer: No.

Long answer: If you have noise problems with any digital delay unit, it probably isn't the unit that is causing it. Distortion and high gain are noisy. Delay pedals at the very basic just repeat what is fed into them. You need to have a noise gate or something between the delay and the distortion. And possibly after the preamp too. The delay and reverb should be the last things in your signal chain. I hope this helps :)

  • Is this noisy with distortion?

  • he says put the effect level at 10 to match original signal...not a good idea when you use the "twist" mode...extremely LOUD!

    fair warning!

  • @ConkRock Ten as in "ten o'clock, as an direction. There is no 10 on the dial.

  • yeah my bad...great vid btw, love my dd-20

  • Great video... and i don't mean this as an insult, but there are times in this video when his voice sounds kinda like Stewie Griffin... that gives it another 100 points in my book...

  • @jdubhua Say whaaaaat! I'm glad that wasn't an insult, but I am most certainly not deliberately impersonating Stewie Griffin :D

  • @Hanskajalka HI. A very nicely explained video. I did not watch to the end(Sorry) But is it possible to layer multiple delay sounds? Like say a triplet dotted 8th and half note? thanks

  • @MrJackanthony No, that's not possible without another delay unit.

  • @Hanskajalka Thanks. How would I set up another unit with this one. I mean if I just put it in series next in the chain won't it delay an already delayed sound? Thanks for your reply.

  • @MrJackanthony Yes you can actually, in the dual delay mode you can set a long delay, and if you hold the left pedal down it will let you set a short delay of up to 100ms to go with the longer delay.

  • @radioheadfauxlife Thanks..:) Interesting..I'm still wondering if I should go for that and your reply changes things. Do you know of any videos that demonstrate this feature?

    Thanks again tc

  • @radioheadfauxlife Does this convert your entire signal to digital? Does it sound natural and organic? Do dynamics really shine and stand out with this pedal? How warm do the tape and analog modes get?

  • Thank you so much. I actually learned a LOT from this video I wouldn't have ever figured out. :)

  • the only problem is, that you cant use the sound-on-sound (loop) and the echoes at the same time. I use it mostly as looper, and while doing so, I cant use any of the echoes. so I will need another pedal for the loops (or echo), thats the only bad thing about this pedal.

  • the boss rc-20 is the thing for you then

  • I've never seen nor heard these Boss dual pedals. I had a Boss Digital Reverb/ Delay pedal and I loved it. It's long gone. My question is, this one better than the DD-7?

  • @Dannymusic1999 They're very different, though still in the delay category... I suggest you make the decision for yourself--don't let yourself be bought in by a diehard fan. The DD-7 is newer, and that's why they're in the same used-price range.

  • @rootvalve I checked the Digitech Time warp, dual pedal and find that one may be better.

  • Which has more going on - this, or the RE-20? I've an RE20 that I want to get rid of, so was wondering if it's worth going for this instead? What's the reverse setting like on this?...

  • Thank you for your very helpful advise!

  • I have this pedal... I only use it's basic functions. too damn confusing for me.

  • At least I still have mine. You've obviously lost yours.

  • @tasman1966 Thanks for making your assflag apparent to everyone. Not only did you fail to insult this helpful uploader, but you marked yourself as disrespectful and a 'troll'. Thumbs up!

  • On the back of the pedal it says to only use a boss ac adapter. Why?

  • @jonfender123 it's sort of a disclaimer. you can use whatever power supply you want as long as you use the proper voltage and be sure that the system can handle the current. on a pedal board most people go with the voodoo lab

  • thank you for answering

  • because they want you to pay for it

  • Nice guitar tone. I think you did a great job showing it's features.

  • nevermind

  • can you use an adapter with it

  • Does it come with batteries?

  • nova delay! You can tell by the price and looks thats its a better pedal but it is actually a better pedal and they both are pro pedals but the nova is one of the best around.

  • sounds too digital? it's a digital delay...

  • @saidtothehead yeah, but I do appreciate the Analog delay setting it has on it :)

  • dd20, dd7, space echo or line 6 dl4? Help anyone

  • that depends on how much delay you like to use and how you like to use it...

  • tc electronic nova repeater or delay ;)

  • BOSS DD-3 Digital Delay is very popular and very good. I have one and i love it

  • does anyone have or know where to get the schematics for this pedal? mine's broken and i need the schem before i can fix it!

  • Looks like a great pedal, but to me It sounds way too digital. I know, I'm an old fashioned guy

  • awesome video, awesome pedal.

  • Thanks a million on the video. I own and gig with this unit, but it's cut a learning curve. I lost my manual and have been frustrated with my output dela signal thinking there was something wrong with the unit. Hre to learn form you I can reset the output level to different db levels. God Bless you and Thanks!!! Rob Ransom

  • I wasnt expecting the pan.. and my ears got surprised and I felt motion sickenss hahaha

  • Is this better than the DL4?

  • Monta euroo maksoit täst?

  • Vaihtokaupalla, myyjä sai tilalle RC-20XL luupperin, josta muistaakseni maksoin postikuluineen vajaa kaks sataa.

  • What year did this thing come out?

  • So you can't do sound on sound and delay at the same time?

  • the reverse effect scares me

  • XD it's just backwards sounds. Open your mind for differen't sounds. Hendrix, The Beatles, Barret, Belew.. the backward guitar has been used quite a lot in the last 40 years

  • My personal favorite is the DD-20. I've loved it from the day I got it, and as for the dl-4 my friend had two of them and sold both of them to replace it with the DD-20after playing on mine.

  • Such a good demonstration!! Thnx, it was very useful...

  • dl4 has dotted 8th

  • So does the DD-20.

  • you are an idiot

  • hahaha

    you made my day

  • screw analog delay i hate the line 6 dl-4 the only cool thing on it is the sweep delay... the dd-20 is much nicer in my opinion cause the tone of analog pedals are not thick and full and vibrant enough...

by the way i like that reverse delay so much i thing i'm gonna buy 2 dd-20's and make one 75% reverse... its so beautiful

  • pfffft the line 6 dl4 you can store 3 presets that CAN BE ACCESED INSTANTLY by FOOT. the dd20 you have to reach down and touch the button

  • no. you can use the right pedal to switch between the presets as well. there are also 4 presets PLUS the delay setting for whatever the knobs are set for.

  • Yeah try 4 presets that can also be accessed instantly by foot...and yeah you actually can have five if you set the manual setting for a different one....so 5 presets and dotted 8th notes....nice try guys

  • haha they cant be accesed instantly, you have to scroll through them. And also, i have an m13 now, and that can do up to 12 presets, including 4 AT THE SAME TIME! nice try buddy

  • The video is great and very informative, your english is good, just sounds like you're constantly chewing something which is quite off putting!

    Thanks for the video anyway.

  • you make me want sleep

  • man is ti me or his camera keepsd goin out of focus!!

  • which one its better the dd29, the dd7, the ibanez analog delay or the dl4 line 6?

    plz answer

    thx

  • dd29 no ... is dd20 i think its so much better than the dl4 because dl4 doesnt have tap tempo ... in my opinion DD20 owns !!!

  • dl4 have tap tempo but its different

  • dl4 has a built in tap tempo

the difference between the dl4 and the dd20 is that the dd20 has the dotted eighth delay but the dl4 doesnt

the dl4 has a lot of more delay settings and the dl4 has a longer looper and the autovolume effect so some say the dl4 is better but its all your opinion

in my opinion i think the dd20 is more comfortable but the dl4 has much more extra effects i like like the auto volume

  • You can't compare analogue delay to digital, completely different sound, and non of the digital modelling pedals can simulate it.

  • I love it..i use it all th time...so much u can add to your live sound.

  • The delay can emulate:

    Reverb

    Chorus

    Flanger

    Looper

    Pitch Shifter

    And other psychedelic effect...

  • hey man i like the tripped out stuff on your other video, i noticed your manual light as well as the 1-4 light are on , How is this and does that give you more combinations

  • Is this the delay that the aqua puss was made off of? i thought it was a boss delay but idk

  • Does it have a hold mode? Can tap tempo be controlled by an external footswich?

  • yes and yes

  • I'm trying to play Where The Streets Have no Name by U2, and I need the option to set it to 3/16. Can this do that?

  • Check out u2john316 on you tube. He does a delay shootout with that song and one of the pedals is the dd-20. Sounds pretty good. He has the best u2 demos on you tube in my opinion.

  • ive seen that he doesnt give any settings

another good U2 demoist is ralqh, check him out

  • how many delays can you play at the same time with this pedal?

  • When would you need more than one delay going? I mean I do sonic experimentation, but are you playing music or making sounds?

  • I use two delays to make a dual delay effect, but now i found out that the DD-20 has the dual delay effect already installed. jeeeez no need to get angry man.

  • Can this pedal do volume swells?

  • Does this work with the plain old boss ac adapter? Does it work with daisy chaining with an NS-2 or does it need all the power to itself?

  • it should work with a daisy chain cause i have the rc-20 and works with the daisy chain.

  • This pedal is amazing. It can do some whacked out stuff, and it covers all normal/abnormal delay needs.

I'll probably do an in depth review of it soon, so watch my channel.

  • i heard on one of of their demo videos for this that you can make it so the delay stops when u turn off the pedal or you can make it just keep going after you turn it off. Mine is stuck in the "keep going" setting and I'd rather have it stop right after i turn it off, how do i do that

  • Thanks bud, you answered some questions I had about this pedal. Think I'll get me one!

  • if you are using one your saved presets, can you use the pedal on the right to adjust the tap tempo?

  • Yes, you can.

  • sweet.

    thanks

  • Ok, I need to rephrase-I know you can play delayed sounds over your loop, I was wondering if I can somehow make the delayed signal loop while in S.O.S.--or do I need another unit?

  • You need an other unit for that.

  • Ok, I got mine, and I can't figure out how to use the delays while I'm doing the S.O.S. Any help? Is this really possible?

  • Thanks, Weirdbag! Just found the answer to my 2nd question-from Looper's Delight website (but delay, not loop):

You can get up to 46 seconds of delay from the DD-20 by using this [PAN] mode and muting one of the two audio outputs. A jack must be inserted to both outputs or the stereo effect (and the potential 46-second delay) won't be heard. The direct sound retains its stereo image, but the effected sound reduces the stereo input to mono, sending it hard to the left, then hard to the right.

  • Appreciated!

  • 1.) Yes!

  • Wow. I don't understand why people make rude, acidic, and most of all IGNORANT comments about other people who are volunteering their time to share information. Just watch something else. Great demo. Questions--1.)Can you use the delays while you are looping? and 2.)I've heard you can get 46 seconds for loops-know how? Thanks!

  • you can use the delay while a loop goes on, but you can't record anything with delay. All you can do is record a clean sound and then play with delay over it.

And you get only 23 seconds for looping. But it's enough.

  • so would this pretty much replace the need for a dd-3 or a dd-7? i'm using two dd-3s right now, should i just get this?

  • the only thing keeping me from buying this is an expression pedal I'm looking for one that i can attach one too does this have this ability?!

  • Thats what the control input on the back is for :)

  • Looks like it ain't possible!

Got any comparison with line 6's delay box?

  • Forget this thing, I just heard the new Digitech Timebender... astonishing!

  • I had the chance to play around with not one, but TWO of these beasts linked together.... The option were endless for what you could do.

Basically you could loop endless riffs with each pedal and then jam over the top. Very awesome pedal!

My only complaint is that it's been out for years and the price has barely come down at all...... And I'm always wondering if Boss is going to release an updated version with more features(adding extra effects etc etc).

  • i learned about the batteries in delay pedals the hard way

  • so what do you use instead???????

  • a power adaptor

  • Great video! It's very thorough, and answers a lot of questions that the other reviews don't. Your English is fine. Plus, if people know enough to care that you should've said line level output, then I'm sure they'll figure it out :)

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • Ok, I've figured it out. You can change the way the right pedal works. To change it hold the SELECT button down when you turn on the pedal. Then you have three options: Pdl1 (right pedal switches to the next preset), Pdl2 (right switches just between the manual mode and the first preset, to switch preset press SELECT) and Pdl3, which works just the way I've been explaining. So we were both right :-)

  • Ok review but the whole "A" and "B" thing is not for 2 guitars. Its STEREO output. meaning you can run it through an effects loop on your amp or to two different amps for a panning delay. Its NOT meant for 2 different instruments. Thats retarded.

  • Yes, I know. But it is not retarded. People, be creative and don't let anybody tell you what you can and can not do. Experiment and be free.

  • and put some damn shoes on

  • Why would he have shoes on indoors?

  • if you hold down the right pedal for 2 seconds it turns to a manual floor tap so you dont have to bend down during live play.

  • I have the pedal. At 5:10 or so he says something about pressing the both pedals simultaneously.... you don't have to do that for anything I think. I think he made a mistake about that... Anyway helped about the SoundOnSound function... which is a great function, not the looping station but close enough.

  • Pressing the two pedals simultaneously lets you switch between the five stored presets without bending down to the and doing it by hand.

  • what are you talking about? I know I'm right and I just tried it. You change the 4 presets by stepping on the right pedal, not both of them. Pressing both pedals at the same time pretty much does nothing. And try to use correct English: "without bending down to the and doing it by hand" WTF?

  • Sorry for my English, but what I said is correct: I switch from the manual mode to the presets mode by stepping on the right pedal and switch between the four presets by stepping on both pedals. Then holding down the right one for a couple of seconds you can switch on the taptempo function of the right pedal. That's the way it goes.

  • Dude, this is pointless. You can alternate between presets just by clicking the right pedal. you don't need to step on bot of them. Imagine what would it look like when playing live - jumping like an idiot on the pedals with both of your feet...... You change the presets by clicking the right pedal, not both of them, don't misinform others. Correct about about the holding down for a couple of seconds and so on... it says on the unit for god's sake. But don't get me wrong-- good video in general!

  • For what it's worth, on the back of the pedal, it says "Pedal Function: L+R" and under "mode 3" it says "Memory 1/2/3/4" So maybe dude was just reading.

  • Dudes, you are both right and wrong.

You can switch the pedal modes!!

The following can be chosen by pressing the right pedal while powering on:

    1. on/off 2. manual/presets 1+2. cycle presets

    1. on/off 2. cycle presets

    1. on/off 2. manual/presets

josipml5... you might want to do some research before having such a convinced argument...

By the way .. the pedals are an inch apart, you can easily tap both with one foot.

Oh and the pedal modes are explained on the back of the unit .. you 'tard.

  • Hahaha you have got to be the dumbest person on the surface of the earth. You first have an argument without actually checking out the information, then when I try to help you by telling you that it's both possible you carry on to (attempt to) insult me ... quite pathetic.

  • He left a word out. There is nothing wrong with his English. You really don't need to be rude.

  • for quality digital with convincing analog emulations, you can't really go wrong with this. not a looper really, but some basic functions for fun. thanks for the demo, I did not know about the different output setting possibilities. cool.

  • good demo, convinced me to buy it

but i was wondering, i want to do live just reverses, fairly long ones, can this do that?

  • Great video!!

  • i don't think its nessesary.. This is a bit of a snob pedal.

  • Actually, it's a delay pedal. What's a snob pedal?

  • This is a an awesome review, nice thing ;)

  • thats a complicate machine...

  • auto-focus = on....

  • does anyone know if this would work for bass?

  • would it work for bass? yes. would it sound right...or good for that matter... i dont know.

  • ok thanks.

  • yes it would work great. It simply does the effect on all input sounds, including feedback, and even vocals and synths.

    good luck

  • LOL! No, I'm from Finland.
