The most important thing to know in bowling is not what your style is. It's how consistent you are. I know for me that I have a much lower consistency two-handed versus one-handed. So, I probably won't take up two-handed like I wanted to, because of my lack of control over it. Speed and power don't do you any good if you can't control it.
I'm curious. I don't have a plastic ball or urethane, so how would I play the outside line with a reactive ball? Is it possible to reduce the number of revs down to about 200 or so? Because that's how many revs I throw it with one handed when I play the outside line. Thanks.
I need some quick advice. I've been bowling two handed for a while now but my flaw continues to be my ball speed. What would you recommend to increase it?
@Pythagorist First off, don't think solely about speed. It is not critical to throw it too fast. However, timing is very important. The power is generated in the legs and the skip step is essential to gaining ball speed on the down swing. A video of your form would also be helpful.
i've got a question. i've been bowling two handed for about 2 months now. and i'm planning to get a bowling ball, but i don't know what type should i get. should i get a pearl or solid ball?
@nai4528 I really depends on the lane conditions. Urethane is my favorite, but if you are set on a reactive ball I would buy a medium oil condition solid reactive ball. A pearlized ball will give a lot of length so it is better for more broken down conditions. Is this for a house shot?
@mrajg55 Yes, the tendon in my thumb healed, but I believe that if I went back to bowling exclusively with one hand, it would flare up again. Plus, I don't see any point in changing back because I am bowling better before with no problems. I know that the thumb is one of the big problems for competitive and professional bowlers, and taking it out has really been good.
I'm not a two hander but I really don't see why the PBA has made so many rules against the style..Or even why people get so upset over it saying it "Takes away from what sport was originally suppose to be." I think it's amazing and I would like to do it. I try but it's practically me just throwing a ball with several more revs on it. Hooks way too much for me. But I digress, there shouldn't be any sort of regulation to the style. Sports have adaptions.
@mrajg55 I would advise beginning with a weak ball, maybe urethane or plastic. Do not try to throw it too fast or get to the line too fast. Just take it slowly. Also, it may be advisable to attempt to bowl on relatively oily lanes, just to avoid having to throw it too fast.
@xxDxxSxxS i average 193 in league play with my two-handed bowling and im blowing my competitors minds but i only roll it about 13 mph. i was wondering how you increased your ball speed by that much
@c1o2d3e4y5 I think that staying relatively low initially and walking towards the line slightly fast help. The hop step is critical to gaining momentum and higher ball speed. When I first started I also played about the same speed; it just takes time to practice. As you get more comfortable with the style as a whole you could probably examine the elements of your approach and find speed from there.
hey lil secret ive learned man, and i noticed you had the same issue i use to have, when you muscle up or short arm it you actually loose speed on the ball, try to stay loose until the bottom of your downswing and then lift.. ex-go watch how loose jason belmonte is on his back swing and how smooth his release is. once you get it, its like effortless power i promise you.
Two things - slow your footwork just a bit and your balance will magically perfect itself so much that if the approach was covered with oil and bubble gum, you would still be fine. Also, notice that sometimes in this video you follow through and other times you don't. Otherwise, I have to say that you are an impressive bowler. I hope you take these observations in the context they are intended, as a bowling coach and as a friendly observer. Great video!
@centercounter Thank you for the constructive criticism. I agree with the points you made wholeheartedly, and I have actually been working on slowing down the approach for the past few weeks.
Hey, overall great, balance can be a bit more consistant, but early days, you have picked speed up signifcantly from around 17 to 20 mph (do u have any vids currently throwing that speed to view??).. Release, footwork look solid.... Fellow 2 hander here..Liking what I see. Hows the average going? and your spare game?
@looseleftie Unfortunately no to the first question. I believe that I gave that information on the BowlingCommunity thread when I posted this video, looseleftie.
@kingzmaul On the shots where I lose my balance, it was a tournament in which someone was applying Easy Slide on all of the approaches and messing my footwork up.
@jrklein27 The speed is significantly faster than the average competitive bowler, so I do not understand what you are trying to say. In addition, I do not see how you are in any way qualified to judge how many steps a successful player can take. Please find something better to do with your time than inflate your ego by criticizing other player´s two handed shots.
@BowlingVeteran220 Ever heard of Jason Belmonte? Osku Palermaa? This release is not only legal, it is being encouraged and coveted by the USBC and the PBA. In addition, due to the fact that the left hand comes off the ball at the release, it is technically a two handed approach with a one handed delivery.
@xxDxxSxxS yes i have heard of them and both of them take their left hand off the ball before they throw the ball with one hand i watched closely and he just barely gets it off in time if someone happens to want to get him disqualified for it i dont know why they wuld because two handed release is so cool and puts so much revs and speed on the ball anyways they culd due to usbc regulation rules
@BowlingVeteran220 That is completely incorrect. First off, USBC rules clearly state that even if a bowler bowls with two hands all the time, i.e. a real two handed release, such as a child rolling the ball between their legs, it is FINE. The rule only states that the bowler must put the same hand into the finger holes every time, and that the same release must be repeated for every shot. PBA rules are even more accepting, allowing a bowler to bowl in any way, this is the same in Sweden.
Well done my friend! You have significantly improved your technique and control since the last video! You have to try a real wood floor though! You would be releasing at the other gutter haha. By the way, you are right when you said in the beginning...the revolution is now!!
