Richard Harris was really great in this film but heres a footnote: He did not grow up poor. He never actually knew what it was like to suffer or to experience any kind of hardships growing up because he came from a wealthy family in Limerick. He went to good schools etc etc. So no Sean Bean was wrong there. Harris couldnt actually relate to this story nor could he associate himself fully with the character.
Its not about rich or poor, its a deep rooted sence of 1 powerful caracter having everything that he worked for and holds so dearly taken away by the very people he lived by. eg Loss betrayel of everything you or me have lived for! I dont think we quailfy ot say that someone isnt up to doing something, that clearly done a class A. What no one else could of done better! Get back to me if you didnt get the last part!
i was just sayin he didnt actually live the part in his early life. Neither did his family. I was correcting what was said in the vid. I thin he was great in this film. He really put it out there and made it all so real. And I agree- I dont think anyone else could have made this film what it is.
But he realy didnt grow up poor nor his family. I was just making that point. But lets digress shall we? =)
All i know is that Harris gave mccourt a thump in the mouth in a pub in newyork sometime after the film was made. I wonder would mccourt have changed his tune about Harris when he wrote his books?
Oh yea...Hmm...I remember reading somethin about that now. Interesting. but nah Harris really did have a nice life growing up ..nut like u said thats got not the point here. Its a great film. He kindas reminds me of my Granddad. Doenst really look lie him but hteres somethin there. Very cool.
I know what you mean. He was just a grandparent type of person. Especially as Dumbledore. He just seems so kind and lovely. And wise and Irish! =] Lol.. just like Irish Grandaddys.
I LOVE this movie. Richard Harris was an incredible actor. And the short part where he's talking to the priest about the famine always makes me want to cry a little. His performance is so amazing.
