@EchoBoomer1987 Type Toy Story 3 great escape. They watched every war movie where someone escapes that was ever made. Including The Great Escape numerous time's. In Toy Story's escape scence, I saw alot of The Great Escape also lol. So thats awesome.
@rafale1981 they made every thing in this movie what it looked like back then. from the camp to the uniform to the inviroment. im only 17 and i know that
They are Really German Uniforms. Most of them are Luftwaffe Uniforms since they are under control of the airforce who shot them down. The Luftwaffe's uniform is hardly as known as that of the Wehrmacht of Waffen-SS.
he he- i hafta giggle at old war movies a bit- everythings brand new- even the prisoners look like they just got back from the cleaners. Great movie though
May I ask how old you are? I am 40 and my father had been to the WW2 aswell... as a very young HJ-boy... so it would be some kind of miracle if the US or british forces had boys in that age as soldiers.
Yeah? Without the British Empire you'd be speaking Japanese!!
Because GB were involved Imperial Forces from Canada, India, Nepal, South Africa, Rhodesia, Australia, New Zealand and many more had to come along. You were 2 years late and not because you were all weepy eyed and thought we all needed a hand! The majority of the allied forces in the war were part of the British Empire, stop taking all the credit as per bloody usual yank.
I am a great admirer of Britain; my roots are English and I love her history. Had it not been for her standing alone and winning the Battle of Britain the war certainly would have been much more difficult. I do however disagree with you with regards to the Pacific. I cant think of one major engagement from Doolittle to Nagasaki where the U.S. was aided by any sizable force of the British Empire. If you know of one, please reply. As for the U.S. being late to the party, thats debatable.
Why would anyone admire a post WWI Britain? Talking about being proud of becoming an offshore financial satellite of a foreign country?
Read up on war loans, the inability of GB and FR to repay them, resulting in reparation claims to GE, to assist the Allies debt, and the aftermath that we know as the rise of the NS regime, and subsequent WW2. During and after WW2, same shit. That's where 10 downing hoorah patriotism towards the US stems from. Debt. Lots of.
Im speaking in general terms regarding English history. All nations have periods when their behavior wasnt the best, yours more than most. As for WW I, be honest, at its base element WW I was, for all purposes, a family squabble among the monarchs of Europe; millions perished for Willie, Frankie, Nicky, Georgie, Petie, etc. WW II can be viewed as the second stage of WW I which really never ended. BTW, I also have German blood in my veins and have great admiration for her in many regards.
Not going to dispute that inter imperialist rivalry ultimately sparked WWI. It was the Austrian Habsburger who started it, and the German Empire, treaty or not, would have joined anyway. The US exploited this, and did stay out of the lethal circumference until it saw it's loan repayments at stake, caused by an allied defeat. Intolerable burdens the US imposed on its WWI Allies after the war, and through them, on the Germany, became the prelude to the most lethal war yet.
As noted, if it hadn't been for your ludicrous loyalty to monarchs and the imperialism of European nations i.e. Austria-Hungary's domination of Serbia there most likely wouldn't have been a Great War. No Great War no WW II. Besides, I'm as much inclined to believe the Zimmermann Telegraph and Germany's prompting of Mexico to declare War on the U.S. if the U.S. had not remained neutral in the face of unrestricted submarine warfare had as much to do with our entry into WW I as financial debts did.
This film to me is one of the greatest WWII films ever made, its a classic, anybody who loves WWII (Like me) Can say that this is one of their Top Ten Favirotes, thanks for posting

Does anyone know if the movie "King Rat" is a sad movie similar to "The Great Escape"? Or if it is any good? Thanks for the thoughts!

I've heard it's good, but I haven't seen it. Look it up on IMDb, you can read user reviews. It's about soldiers in a WWII prison camp run by the Japanese.

It is very good, but depressing as hell.

50 years young; my Favorite Movie, EVER! I was hooked watching it for the first time with my Dad, when I was just 13. Not enough superlatives to describe how terrific this movie is.... Dedicated to the "50" !!

Greatest WWII movie ever made! The all star cast was absolutely terrific. Just about everyone in the movie became a super star...James Garner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson...they couldn't afford a cast like that today!
