You'll find the more you watch these vids that the contributors like to show you what they can do but not actually give away any of their secrets as to how they do particular things. Turners are, I've found, very secretive and selfish in sharing ideas.
@willbande Actually, the trend among wood turners is to share what we do. There are no secrets here, only practice. Spoons have been carved and turned for thousands of years. the only thing we do differently today is use some power tools.
@willbande Well, as someone who is new to wood turning, my experience has been very different going by the vids I've watched on youtube. Basics are covered by most people, Other stuff is a closely jealously guarded secret. You just have to read thru some comments to find the frustration that I feel.
Sure, lots of other tools but for spindle turning I like skews. In fact, a straight chisel is a great tool for spindles too. Once you get used to a skew it is hard to go back to spindle gouges for anything other than coves. Besides, nothing else gives so spectacular a catch as a good skew in a bad moment ;-)
Now thats a thick handled spoon! My Mom would have loved that one! Mom use to use hers for more than cooking sometimes hahahaha anyway Thanks again for posting these I am going to subscribe to your videos, Joseph T (fly2000jtb)
I would really love to see how the project is completed. Would you be willing to do one more video on carving out the spoon bowl? If it is titled carving out the spoon bowl then no one would think it involved the lathe.
i.e. the most basic of lathe functions. The title is misleading as such that it implies to the viewer that it would show something other than this very basic process.

Viewers need to know that this series is not a tutorial, just an amateur making his first spoon and documenting it.

What a huge waste of time. All you show is how you can turn a straight shaft and never any info on the spoon portion itself.

Because that's not normally something you would do on a lathe...
