I have the XDM in 9mm and will soon be purchasing another one in a different barrel length. It's a great gun. I know why I went with the Springfield but I wonder why you chose the XD9 over a Glock 19 or 17? There's more gear available for the Glock, more Glock owners and in the event of SHTF it's more likely that there will be parts and mags available (somewhere) for the G19 or G17 than for the XD9.
I'm not a Glock fanboy but from s survivalist standpoint I can understand some people's bias.

@gasdorf: Every operator/survivalist/prepper will have individual preferences, and this should at all times be respected. Great choice, no matter WHAT firearm you chose, my brother! --GM
As a new subscriber I cannot express enough how glad I am to stumble upon these videos. Finally, a clear and concise (how it should be) explanation for all things survival better presented than anyone I have ever come across on this site.
Thanks for all your work (and service) you put into these vids GM, very much appreciated.
@grisham77: My friend, thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement! It means a lot to me. It's my pleasure to be of some service to our survival/prepper community, and your comment makes it all worthwhile! Many blessings, brother --GM
Great video. The only thing I would like better is to see lasergrips on this weapon. Its very nice to be able to activate/deactivate a laser without having to use your finger. Not only that, but the lasergrip allows the trigger finger to momentarily cover the laser while activated if desired. Sometimes its nice to have more control over the laser because the laser can give away your position, and the most precise control over the laser (without extra movements) can't be a bad thing.
Hey I'm from the UK and there are strict gun laws here. I was wondering if you knew any defensive weapons that I could use in case of an emergency that aren't firearms. Thanks for posting these videos, I've learnt alot ;)
@JoaquinAndThePenguin: Hi brother! I empathize with your political plight. Here are some suggestions: tazer guns; pepper spray; archery implements; cutlery (knives); self-defense arts; spears. Give these some thought, and I'm sure you can, in time, come up with a more complete list. Many blessings, my friend --GM
@AnalyticalSurvival the letter of the law is that its illegal to carry anything thats "designed, modified or intended for use as a weapon" so no extendable batons, pepper spray, kubotans or anything of the like. theres an exception for a folding blade, but it must be less than three inches and cannot be a locking knife (so really, the exception is for swiss army knives).
in terms of self defense, we literally hold our lives in our own hands.
its also very hard to prove self defense in court.
Thank you. Thank you and blessings to you and your family. I am a single mom, 1 child. Is this weapon good for me? If it is light, I am thinking yes. I am applying for certification to arm myself. I have began storying food. Unfortunately, using a map and gps is a mystery for me. Would you email me a site I can get to to learn? I am on my own with a child and need to train now,, just in case.
thanks again and all of the blessing and hope that we never need these survival preperations.
Bet my life on my XD40. U cant find a tougher or a more "thought out" handgun on the market. Has many features a glock should have. Shoots when its frozen, muddy, sandy and even after being run over! Also, from my limited personal experience, I didnt have 3 seconds when the front door got kicked open.
Quick question for personal defence. I live in England and it is practically impossible to own a handgun, any one who does own one by law has to keep it locked at a registered gun club at all times. What would you or any one else suggest as getting/using for personal defence? I own knifes but due to laws and the fact that I'd rather not get into a knife fight I would like to avoid carrying one.
I VERY recently purchased a XD9. I was really convinced that I wanted a Glock...but after seeing your vids I thought I would rent and shoot BOTH. After shooting both, I found the XD9 felt better, loaded better, and shot better than the Glock. I will prob end up with a Glock in the future....but for now its the XD9. Thanks for the heads up
I stumbled on your videos this evening and I must say that I've spent this entire evening watching your stuff. All I can say is you are one squared away guy. God bless and thanks for all of the time you've spent making these videos!
My first handgun was a XD40 it used to be my bedside gun but I just can't get rounds on target accurately enough so I switched to something else. But I do like it enough that I won't sell it. Stay safe and don't stress too much about the gun haters on youtube.
hello sir, excellent series of videos. I have a question, hope it's not too personal to answer. I live in an urban environment, would you recommend a long range weapon like AR-15 or will it be mostly CQC and a shotgun/pistol are good enough? I ask because another channel advised me to get an AR-15 (cannot afford yet) so I'm here to ask your opinion and maybe I can spend that money on food and ammo. thank you sir, as always stay safe and God bless
@spartanprepper: Thanks for you kind words! I think every prepper should, eventually, consider either an AR or AK style weapon. That being said, the shotgun/pistol combo should, in your case, suffice as a short term goal. When funds and time permit, you should think seriously about steadily moving towards the procurement of an AR or AK style weapon. This will give you the necessary tools to cover the most commonly encountered ranges adequately. Hope this helps! --GM
I have to ask... based on your background... just curious, why did't you select a Glock as your "go to" firearm? I realize FA selection is like a religon and I am in no way making a statement, just asking a question. I own a Springfield XDM chambered in .40 S&W. I also have a G17... and about 10 other guns :). If you do not mind me asking, why did you pick a SFA over a Glock? I am SO intrigued!!! My only goal is a successful outcome in an adverse situation!!! Whatever the tool is, it is!
@MongoWongo777: You know, that's a very interesting question. As a military operator, I have witnessed 3rd-World peasants thrive in horrible situations with just bare-bones weapons systems. And they were deadly accurate -- trust me. That said, I think many are fixated on particular types of firearms. Bear in mind, ANY weapon, in the right hands, can be effective and deadly. Start first with your mindset (80%) -- then moved outward towards the weapon (20%). Many blessings, brother --GM
Hey great vids, I'm learning a lot and preparing. I'm at a stage where I'm looking to get a gun. However, my city makes it illegal to have magazines that hold over 10 rounds. I am new to guns but I know that means the # of bullets the mag can hold. This gun seems to hold 16 or 17 rounds, but I looked at the Springfield XD9 subcompact and that holds 10 rounds. Am I interpreting this law in the wrong way? Also I cannot buy a shotgun, so any alternatives are appreciated. Thanks sir.
@typebhero: Upon purchase, most (or all?) pistols will be shipped with a magazine that is legal for your state. At least that's been my experience. Perhaps others can chime in here with more information (?) Many blessings, and let me know if you need further assistance --GM
AA, i have a problem with purchasing lights that take the 123As. i do not forsee stocks of these being available in a survival situation (for that matter, i dont see stocks of AAs either but i think they will be easier to come across). are there any weapon lights you know of that will take AAs?
Another great video! I carry the same XD9. The mods you made were wise choices from what I know of aftermarket parts available. Looking forward to doing something similar to mine when I can. Especially the trigger, too much up take on the stock trigger for my taste. The peacemaker lock you used was also a great idea, I have been looking for something like it for awhile. Take care.

I like your videos. Thank you for emphasizing that your pistol is locked-up at all times with no exceptions. Too many people forget that their guns need to be kept safe. Not a year goes by that you don't hear about a kid accidentally shooting himself at home because his parents neglected to safely lock up their gun. Makes me sick. Seems like you have very nice set up and of course take good care with your things. Many people should take from what is said and not said in your videos. Kudos!
@steelhead3686 I think if you have a child ages 10 and younger it should be locked up or at least in a very high place that is impossible for them to get to unless an adult is in the house. Otherwise, you should always teach your children about gun safety and it won't be a problem.
love your videos! I always learn something new. Really like your gun lock system. I myself have both 9mm and .45 cal. I have been using hollow points but I am going to look into pow'r balls they seem similar to the old wade cutters.
