  • Hi Kathleen, could you please advise if Acer A500 supports 3G USB Modem to access internet?

  • @garnipudi

I know that some custom Roms support some 3G Modems, but I have not tried to use a 3G Modem with any of them. Check out the forums at XDA developers - someone may have an answer for you.

  • Can someone please help me?!?!?! I have an Acer Iconia Tab A501 firmware 3.0.1 n want to update to 3.2. But when I go to settings>about tablet>system update> check now it says "No Update your device is up to date" if anyone can please help and reply I will b thankful

  • And can everyone please like so everyone can c this and maybe help me :-\

  • This device is fully capable of replacing laptops. Normal windows OS can be installed on the device.

  • is this acer 3.0 usb or 2.0?

  • where can I get that wallpaper?

  • @Baxter6161

Do an image search for "mechm wallpaper". It should show up near the top of a Google search.

  • What i'm trying to say is that why are you wanting your £400 tablet to become a computer with less power then even a netbook?

  • So lets put this into perspective.. You've paid £400 for a tablet that you want to plug a keyboard and mouse into, yet after all that you end up with a laptop like device which doesn't do video editing or thousands of other things a computer can do. Bravo!

  • @fatriff

    To each his/her own, I guess. :-)

I like having more options than fewer.

I never would consider the Tab a replacement for a laptop. But it is a versatile and fun entertainment/browser device though. And once in a while it's nice to be able to use a mouse and keyboard with it.

    As I said before, I like having options . . .

  • @fatriff Well done Kath, nice post. Actually Fatriff, for me this mouse will be most useful. I am gonna be running tablets in several delivery vehicles. The software on the tablets will mean having to scroll through a long list of delivery addresses. Using the wheel on the mouse will make this easier and more precise. NOt sure if the driver support is there yet but I am also hoping that it will allow me to use special mouse buttons to scoll down page at a time (akin to the PageDown).

  • @fatriff actually there are a few video editing apps...

  • where do you download the apps??

and are it working fast and like a normal computer?????

  • having mouse capability if a big plus for me simply for the fact that i hate trying to be precise and tap small links with my finger. thanks for posting the video

  • what is the point of that, it is meant to be a touch screen device and anyway what would you use it for

  • @winpaduser

    It's nice to have options.

  • Very good quality

  • Interesting that you had to install anything to use the mouse. One of the first tests I tried when I got my A500 last June was to plug in a USB hub with a mouse and keyboard plugged into the hub and they both worked immediately. No extra software required. I also tested the HDMI by plugging into my 27inch HDMI monitor. Keyboard, mouse, and monitor all worked great together.

  • @DCItech57 This video was made in the way-back, long before official Acer USB mouse support. I was an early adopter - bought mine the day it came out. Until Acer updated the Tab to 3.1 no one had mouse support - except through this hack which, at the time required root. Of course now with 3.1 there is both USB and BT mouse support.

  • You can also connect a pc xbox control into it :D

  • why would you buy a touch pad and use a mouse. just get a regular computer

  • @ZXETIT

More options are better than fewer . . . When I want a tablet I use it as a tablet, when I need a dedicated keyboard and mouse I have that too. It's good having choices. :-)

  • @Kathleenhenri is a acer w500 good too? because i am maybe buying that one.

  • @deniz11muis1

I would not buy the w500, but please don't make your decision on my opinion. I think that the "weight" of Windows 7 OS along with the physical realities of a tablet (think of the thin Android, iPad, or even WebOS tablet profiles while Windows tablets are bulkier) makes for a slower, and less snappy experience. Plus battery life is only around 4 hours. But if you need a Windows 7 alternative to Android I suggest taking a look at the Fujitsu Q550. And maybe wait for Windows 8. :-)

  • @Kathleenhenri yeah i like windows 7 and i know the tablet is a little heavy but my laptop is like 2.8 kilo's so that 0.9 kilo doesn't matter, and android is cool but i want to do many things that a android tablet cant do

and i must buy the acer w500 cuz in europe the asus ep121 is not availble in shops. And do you think that the acer w500 is not extremly fast but normal like browsing and some other notebook/pc or is it annoying on the acer w500 or good/average. hope to hear from you soon :).

  • @deniz11muis1 I haven't actually had my hands on one - only read reviews of it. There is a review over at cnetdotcom, though. Maybe that would be a better place to check things out. There are some user reviews there as well. I think cnet gives it a 3 stars out of 5 but the user reviews are better. Good luck!

  • @deniz11muis1 Did you ever buy the w500? Even though I said I would never buy it, I have changed my mind. From what I have seen on Youtube it runs Ubuntu and Windows 8 Preview pretty well and it seems that you can swap out the ssd for a larger hard drive. I am coming around to thinking it is probably a good buy. Maybe I'll pick up one during the Black Friday sales coming in November. :-)

  • @Kathleenhenri i am getting money around 1 nov. ( from my job) and then i will have enough ( 499,99 euro's with out docking station) but it must get a little cheaper cuz it is kinda old now :P and yeah win 8 runs good on it :D

  • @deniz11muis1

I bought a refurbished model from CheetahDeals. Should have it in my hands later today. First I'll probably make an unboxing video. As it is refurbished, I want to review the the seller and the quality of the item.

  • can u download games on it?

  • @bart12345ist

Lots of games available through Google Market.

  • In the last part of the video (min 01: 39 sec) u said that you are so glad you didn't get the Asus eee pad transformer. What does Acer has that Asus doesn't ? Regarding the usb port, if u buy the optional docking station with the Asus eee pad transformer, it has 2 usb ports.

  • Thats Cool

  • Thanks!!

  • What are you proping it up on? I just got mine tonight and prop may come in handy.

  • @Tonia682 It's called the Compass Mobile Stand and you can check it out online at twelvesouth*dot*com

  • great movie

  • should I update to 3.1 before root or after it??

  • @Jonnay0808 If you update to 3.1 you won't even need to root. USB support is supported out of the box with stock 3.1.

  • what app did you download to use the mouse, and ihow is it for gaming on the tablet... nice vid and tablet btw, these tablets are something else, I haven't touched a laptop or desktop since I got mine...

  • @96joejoe

The information you are looking for is listed in the video description. But now that 3.1 is rolling out with usb and bluetooth mouse support built in, I would suggest waiting for the update and then plug in your mouse and you should be good to go.

  • nice video. You got a pretty nice wallpaper out there? What's the name and where can I find it? thanks in advance.

  • I'm looking to get a tablet for my sheet music. is it possible to set up a button on the mouse to turn a page?

  • are you able to run mouse+keyboard via usb hub?

  • is it responsive?

  • @gura Do you mean the screen? Yes, it is still responsive while using the mouse.
