Well, I think Cortana watched, despite her status, the Elites as they set the ring and HC under quarantine.

Addtionally, it seems that the Gravemind was in search of Mendicant Bias (who always fled his former master xD). And with the forerunner ship through the portal, she was almost sure that the GM will follow to the ark.

There it _may_ be locked away. And with the rest of their force under quarantine, the flood would be finally stopped.

That is what though what was the solution to the flood ? I think it is an inconsistacy in the plot of the story. There was no solution. My question is that what if the flood went to earth instead of the Ark ? That unfinshed Halo would be useless and the blast would ineffective.

now that i think about it, cortana probably knew that the flood would all follow and go to the ark, in order to stop truth. If truth activated the rings, then the flood would be gone, unless they were at the ark as well. so the flood went to the ark to be safe/stop truth, which cortana probably guessed would happen.

Yeah seriously, and how come when you get back to Earth its all good.. You'd think with a fleet of flood passing by Earth to the portal they'd at least get a snack. I understand the last part though, the ring exploded and that killed the flood. What about other flood on other rings?

Did you finish the book dude? The Spartan 3's were kept secret. Except for one group with only 2 survivors, none of the Spartan 3's made it off Onyx.

Yeah, Onyx took place just before this happened, right after Installation 05 dropped it's beacon. And they did a good thing by not killing them, an Legendary, they'll come in quite helpful... until the point where you get in that hog :p
