Our bass player bought one of these beautiful bass guitars a year ago and its the best looking and best sounding bass guitar Ive ever seen or heard in a live band situtation. Man, that bass sound MARVELOUS.
I have an Elite 4 and I honestly use it more than even my Music Man 5 which cost 2x as much. I can't say enough good things about the Elite 4. I mostly play Rock, Funk and Fusion. The bass handles a lot of styles really well. The bass frequency attack isn't quite as "subterranean" as a bass with a bolt-on neck, but the neck through design adds some really nice natural compression and makes the bass sit really well in the mix. It never gets drowned out. Love the Elite 4.
I own the Schecter Studio version of this bass but with six strings. Bought it for 1000 bucks brand new. I love it to death and is my main bass. Will use it before my Spector rebop five string anyday. Not kidding, I might be crazy but I really prefer it. Though the spector was hand build and worth twice as much.
I have this EXACT same bass, definately worth $399 used, damn... I paid $500 for mine used, came with a hard case though. For some reason in this video it sounds like shit, IMO. I have a video playing this bass, just a little improv jam we did for fun.
bought one of these for 500$ at muscians friend a month ago and i love it. did a jhome mod made it 18 volt instead of 9 its twice as loud and soud twice as good .
Bringing the root note all the way up the fretboard. And you can play 3 actives note at the same time, if you have big hands(long fingers). For me hearing that B string open, is something i had not felt in my gut. Before (20 years back)i only felt the E. This might not be enough to change over to a 5. I can pop and slap on a 4 easier. The strings gap is bigger. On most basses But i have been using a 5 for 5 or 6 mouths. And i am really diggin it!
Different way of playing and thinking (with lot more scales from one position) is also something that can be achieved through using a 5-string. An extra open string is always coming handy, not to mention that it's easier to pick on the E string with fingers, since the B string helps you supporting the picking finger. String spacing is narrow, compared to a 4 string etc, so different picking is required - and so on.
If this is your first bass, though, try playing some 5-stringers at Guitar Center or some other shop. If you aren't comfortable, get a 4-stringer because the 4-stringer's fretboard will be a bit smaller with the other string gone.
so did you buy it? Nice price!

I tried this at a store once, and whoever used it last tuned the G string up to the G string on a guitar! He's lucky it didn't snap in his face.

so what's the point of getting a 5 string besides being able to play 5 extra notes?

You barely need to tune it.
