i was sixteen when this great record was released, so in love........... brings tears to my eyes each time i hear it. i wonder where she is now........... nearly fifty years on.
I saw Johnny Mathis at the Carousel theatre in West Covina, CA on, I am going to say, Christmas Eve 1967... I probably paid $7.50 for those tickets... He was unreal. His voice is like an instrument. I remember sitting there with my girlfriend. We we so in love, it was a perfect date. I am thinking, "Can I even hear a flaw in his voice?" No. Just like these recordings...perfection. My only issue with Johnny Mathis? Gay. Too bad. (Yeah I know, guilty as charged...homophobic.)
i find this incredible to believe, but, someone told me that the ONLY number one hit that johnny ever had, was his duet with deneice williams...too much, too little, too late....this can't be true....or is it??????anyone know....thx in advance....
@smush48 That very well may be without looking it up to verify it. Johnny's career started while Elvis was topping the charts, and most of the hits he is best remembered for like "Chances Are", "Misty", etc. came during a time when rock and roll rather than beautiful ballads ruled the day.
I'm twenty five years old and I gotta say every time I hear a classic song like this, I feel like I wanna do a slow dance with someone ;). It's so romantic.
My Mom brought me here first (I remember her playing this and other JM songs not long after her beloved husband/my beloved Dad died). Then "Goodfellas" reminded me of it. Great song, along with "When sunny gets blue".
OH MY MY johnny mathis is beyond any shadow of doubt 1 of the very very best vocalist's that ever crooned a song for us to enjoy!!! but i must say this anyone that wants to talk squat cause johnny is a self confessed gay?? dammit people it's a persons choice to be gay or not!! do you idiots judge his ability to sing not as good or say he stunk? no nobody can make his angelic voice go away, so lets leave johnyy's being gay if he is and enjoy what we really are here for ok?? PEACE
This gay boy sends this song out to ONE very special SIR. Can't stop thinking of YOU, SIR. Looking forward to being claimed, collared, renamed, marked by YOU, SIR
it started with this song, so long ago, so many memories with his wonderful, heartflelt music..to listen to him, with candle lights burning...that special someone with you.....it was magic then, and magic still when his music plays.........thanks johnny.................................
Before my father passed I told him he would find a way to reach me. 15 days after he left he came to me through Wonderful, Wonderful. I grew up listening to Johnny Mathis. I LOVE YOU DAD! THANKS FOR FINDING ME, LOVE NOELLE
I was a young teen when JM was at his peak. What a wonderful thing to have this beautiful romantic music at that time of my life. And I still love it.
all of his music reminds me of my mom who is no longer here...its fucking amazing what music brings to our lives.....without it...we'd fall apart all together.Tx for this.
Thanks for posting this incredible song. Johnny Mathis is one of a kind. The hits were awesome, but if in many cases the 'lesser lights' were even better. I'm a big fan of 'Heavenly' and 'MoreThan You Know'. Do yourself a favor and listen to those two, and enjoy them, as I know that you will.
Só aqui, no You Tube, pude ver concretizado o meu desejo de muitos anos: ouvir novamente o Johny Mathis interpretando "It's not for me to say"! Eu tinha, então, meus 12 ou 13 anos...Uma adolescente que gostava de músicas românticas e que sonhava, um dia, encontrar seu príncipe encantado...É bom recordar, muito bom mesmo! A gente volta no tempo...Obrigada, pessoal do You Tube!!!

@smush48 No, "Chances Are" was a no. 1 for him in 1957 (I think). CA is on here, too, and as incredible as this wonderful song.

This one peaked at #2 on the CHUM chart in Canada, but it was his 2nd Top 5 on that chart. Wonderful, Wonderful peaked at #5.
