It’s clear the woman was trying to commit suicide by these two tell tale signs. 1: at 1:15 - 1:30 she has no problem smoking a cigarette and you can see by the expression on her face she's contemplating what she's about to do. 2: This is the most obvious at 0:05 - look how she gets up from the ground and try’s to kick the third rail to the far right, trying to electrocute herself. If the train wasn't slowing down (which you wouldn't know when you leap after her), it would have arrived even sooner. And as you said, you 'think' there was time. If you think wrong, you're dead.

That's a huge risk to make for a stranger. I guess that's why we call people like that heroes, whether they succeed or not.
