Whites came to colonize and provided good living standards for themselves. For almost all colored/black South Africans, life is virtually the same as living in any other "developing" African nations. The first plantation workers were Chinese, but the government of the day shipped them back to China when they saw the slaves were breeding like there was no tomorrow. Also, we have to remember that slaves had to be imported because the local black population was too small and useless. Even Ghandi said the Indians were better workers than the lazy blacks and should be treated better.

well there are more Zulu speaker than Afrikaans.The other advantage is that with Zulu you can pick up a bit of xhosa in the way as both language are interelated through a Nguni and a Khoikhoi link.The locals are generally impressed when you manage to string up a handful a coherent sentences in zulu.If you learn Afrikaans you are basically learning an africanised Dutcha language a minority speak.I don't think could get on with ppl in germany if I opted to speak Turkish.which is spoken by 7 mio

Whites came to colonize and provided good living standards for themselves. For almost all colored/black South Africans, life is virtually the same as living in any other "developing" African nations. @7th75thCallaghan I never said the British banned slavery for humanitarian reasons, nor do I believe that governments (or really most organizations with power) behave in a based off what is humanitarian to do. They behave based on solid interests that expand their, and the base they represent's, power.
With regards to the invention of slaver, please look up the various corrections I have done for that technicality. The Dutch did start the European slave trade, however.

The reason I posted this is because the creator of the video stated that the British taught the Dutch how to have slaves, which is just not true. I'm not looking back that far. I am amazed that almost nobody recognise the inherent peaceful culture amongst the Afrikaner nation. The New Zealanders, Australians and Americans annihilated the indigenous population, but not the Afrikaner. They believed in coexistence and when the British rulers in the Cape could not give them protection they asked for, the Boers packed up and moved north into open areas free from British rule. Note: The Boers did not invade areas under control of blacks. Study history to learn the facts.

As an Afrikaans South African I have to correct you on some things you say. The Cape of Good Hope was a refreshment post for the VOC (a private enterprise) ships' en route to India. Later the Cape was HANDED to the English and it became the Cape Colony. Britain and America did not 'teach' us slavery, the VOC and Dutch used Malay slaves without those countries' help. Slavery was abolished in the British Empire and later they called for the abolishment of slaves in South Africa with compensation.

The first plantation workers were Chinese, but the government of the day shipped them back to China when they saw the slaves were breeding like there was no tomorrow. Also, we have to remember that slaves had to be imported because the local black population was too small and useless. Even Ghandi said the Indians were better workers than the lazy blacks and should be treated better.
