I fucking dislike chicanos....They really think they know everything about mexico and celebrate this day in the soil of the biggest historic enemy of Mexico: USA. they say they love mexico but they march in US ARMY that made Mexico bleed in so many times.....That is just weird.
Cinco just shows the heart and passion of the Mexican people over the French (one of the strongest armies in the world). The Mexican army was way smaller and underequipped. Chicano college and university students in the U.S. couldn't celebrate Sep.16, because of summer vacation, so the next best thing was May 5th, and it caught on. P.S., The French eventually came back with more troops and took over.... and to the uploader, half the text is illegible with all those busy pictures, you ninny.
@OO00l That's silly. It had nothing to do with Chicanos. AMERICANS originally celebrated Cinco de Mayo because the French defeat at Puebla discouraged the French from trying to use Mexico as a base. Their plan was to support the South in the Civil war and continue slavery. Mexico was vehemently against slavery. If it wasn't for Mexico winning that battle, we might be speaking French and slavery would have gone on much longer. THAT is why Cinco is significant to Americans.
Many Mexicans do not celebrate it because there so ignorant they dont even know about it, or exactly what happened. Americans know more about Cinco de Mayo than the mojados. The US celebrates Cinco de Mayo as Mexican-American unity. The Mexicans eventually lost the city of Puebla to the French. The French went on to Mexico city. It wasnt till the Civil war in the US finally was almost at an end and told France they had better get the hell out or else.
so they were fighting off two groups of white invaders at once? wow.
Oh yea, and you are wrong about americans celebrating cinco de mayo because they know of mexican-american unity, and how most mexicans dont celebrate it. First, most mexicans are too busy working minimum wage to feed their families, second, we all(americans)look 4 anything to party our ass off to and get drunk.
5 de mayo is not mexico's independence day. its actually sep.15 or 16. cinco de mayo is celebrated for a battle that was won against the french. only Puebla, which is a state in mexico that won the battle celebrates it. the rest of mexico doesnt. only if they choose too. i celebrate it here in the u.s
buddy....lets see...i lived in mx for 6 yrs....never did we celebrate it.....i dont know what part your from... 8D ...its not that i dont like it..its just weird.

I think it's great, as Americans we have such multi-cultural heritage, why not celebrate them all? I like being Irish for the day, or Mexican. Salud!

it is with no doubt a comemorative and important date in mexican history but, we don't celebrate it as a big holiday as they do in the US.
