  • there's almost definitely a second guitar in the background

  • so good.

  • possibly the best live performance ive heard, i can say with all sincerity that i envy isaac's ability to scream

  • they're a lot like Primus in this performance.

  • I will say this is my second favorite band and he is an amusing drummer (my second favorite), but you guys should check out arctic monkeys their drummer is crazy good! Espicaly on the song "Brianstorm". His name is Matt fucking helders! Also does anybody know what effect Isaac uses on black caddiliacs?

  • isaacs wearing erics cap =O

  • @lawrence096 lol. even when he isnt wearing it it remains the same vicinity.

  • <3

  • ah, the pre-skinny jeans era. love it.

  • Isaac is not a shitty guitar player, he plays sloppy because it goes well with the songs... He is not about playing clean, he has to play dirty because that's the way it is in life... To quote Medication,

We're all doctors trading sadness for numbness

Grass looks much greener but it's green-painted cement

The mayor's machines are there cleaning the pavement

You can't make dirt clean so we'll just lemon-scent it

  • @melancholicgaze Exactly. Well put. Isaac is actually damn near genius when it comes to writing guitar parts.

  • @cKunke2 and a genius at writing lyrics...

  • Box in a cage? Bringing in lyrics from One Chance, to be released 7 years later. Haha.

  • isaac is a pretty shitty guitar player i gotta say, but i love what he writes

maybe he was just totally wasted here

  • @equallyeasilyfuqyou I'm guessing WASTED

  • @equallyeasilyfuqyou are you out of your mind?!?!? you must not be a guitar player or musician of any type because isaac brock is an amazing guitar player w a nontraditional style creadted by himself which is matched by no one. TRY playing half the shit he writes, even if u have fundamental or advanced guitar skills his songs r challenging

  • @ross7070 really? I can play them all(Most of them) lol especially this ones my favorite

  • @Oriente7 That's because you're just playing guitar. Try singing and playing at the same time.

Even that isn't his genius. His songs aren't meant to be amazing in technique or innovation. He paints starkly original tunes and lyrics with a basic set of skills that never loses focus on the product for the sake of complexity. Even when they added Johnny Marr, his lines merely reinforced the melody of the lyrics and Isaac's lead. Except for Dashboard. He owned that, a little.

  • @chugalow No, I sing along to...just takes a little practice to get it down, as with any song thats not as complex. And yeah I agree with you. The only thing that keeps me from playing it too its full potential is no having other instruments or guitars to play along with. On the other hand, writing them clearly shows the intense creativity that is Isaac Brock. Rather then listening to the record and playing it....

  • @equallyeasilyfuqyou He writes some cool stuff. Just cause it's a bit sloppy and simple doesn't mean it's shitty. It's a bit off the beaten path and he's got a pretty good ear for tone in my opinion. Most of it is pretty easy to play though.

  • Song makes me wanna be a trucker, with Isaac, Jeremiah, and Eric. Rolling round the lonesome crowded west, up and down Interstate 8 sure as hell wouldn't be a long drive with someone with nothing to think about.

  • this is my altime favorite song...... ever

  • Eric Judy? WITHOUT A HAT???

  • EYE ♥ MODEST MOUSE :):)

  • I think it's cool how he's going "I'm just a box in a cage" at the end of the song.

Then 6 years later it's a "permanent"/actual lyric of One Chance of off Good News. Haha.

  • ILY FLYROCKET

  • This vid/audio is amazing! I swear I'm there, ha!

  • @jBrrou...I'm with ya, but LCW isn't their debut..."It's a Long Drive..`` is one of the best debuts ever...and then abunch of eepees...they`d been around for years

  • @lapdogwilly1 lol its EP not eepees, sorry im really not trying to be an asshole but it stands for "extended play"

  • Too bad they didn't play this when I saw them, that would have been awesome. I miss the old MM though. Two drummers? Not needed.

  • LEGIT

  • "I do lines and I crossed roads" fucking awesome.

  • Yea but he crossed the lines of all the great state roads!

  • Thanks for posting. I couldn't even tell that this wasn't the original audio for this clip, nicely done.

  • another 5/5 performance! i fell in love with that triad guitar riff in the chorus ("i don't feel and i feel great....") when i first gave my ear to this

  • this is fucking great, awesome quality

  • My Favorite Indie Band of All Time! besides Pavement

    Best album undebatably

  • Had never heard that before, that was amazing, thanks for posting

  • A must have song for any road trip!

  • i would choose this song if I had to hear something so loud that it would kill me. bitches. this is godly they play inside my stomach

  • no face i have no face modest mouse opened the arc

  • this is seriously godly

  • so did anyone just hear that??? Massive tune prime modest mouse

  • the beggining of indie genius

  • YYYYAASSS!!! this song is amazaswan

  • jeremiah is just crazy good. so smooth and fluid. fucking MM all the way

  • This is the most amazing video I've ever seen

  • people who make negative comments only give more hype for that video haha

interesting song, im still figuring out how to make out that guitar distortion...

  • I swear there is some sort of addiction in modest mouse. I heard them, then had to hear everything else they have ever done. Even sad sappy sucker ahahaha

  • @alex7069 sad sappy sucker kicks the shit outta the two newest

  • fuckin time capsule quality. I'm so glad that this sort of stuff is floating around.

  • i've listened to this so many goddamn times in the past couple years....so damn good. i very much wish i could have seen them play at this point in their career... but i also wish them their continuing success. long live modest mouse

  • @irthekwak long live indeed

  • The way they turned a jam into a song is so fucking great.

  • I've been trying to grab this show off Dime & Zomb for months. It's awesome - set is great.

  • it would be my dream to be there, 1998, seattle, a fresh modest mouse, touring after the best debut album ever was made, small crowd n place, like the fuki nnirvana u get from running too much

  • the sound is really excellent thank you for this

  • Can someone post a drum tab for this song's basic part (intro)? Even after seeing Jeremiah Green play it, I can't figure it out.

  • check out truckers atlas drum cover on youtube by scavio333 hes got it down. GO J. GREEN!!!

  • ive seen some videos on here. Werent much help for me but maybe im a shitty drummer

  • @ARODNMC Damn my friend james plays it perfect maybe I can get it from him.

  • i definitely think isaac should grow sideburns again.

  • sickest band in the world. wish they were still a three man crew. from 3:19 on is simply a goddamn jamfest.

  • Honestly, they were never a "true" three man crew. They always had someone else on their albums playing various instruments, even back during the making of Blue Cadet-3. They toured with only 3 members, but there's always been supporting players on the music.

  • Hell, they've also had backup musicians live in the past, before the whole "officially" 3+ member band.

  • Sickest fuckin band in the world. wish they were still a 3 man crew. 3:19 is simply a goddamn jamfest

  • classic case of less is more...i miss this mm

  • fuckin' rules

  • This is why modest mouse is great.

  • great sound, great performance! :)

  • In my drunken stupper late one night, me and a couple buddies stumble on a party.

i was holding half drunk whiskey and had just got done listening to this song.

For starters i walked to the back yard and yelled, I AM JOHNNY CASH!

  • omg charger girl i totalled my 95 talon tsi with a 16g in it listening to this song.... that cd to this day is still jammed in there too.

  • isaac brock is one of the greatest lyracists ever, if not the greatest

  • we all bled

  • thank u for posting so much

  • eric has hair D:!!!

    xD

  • sexy

  • thanks for posting! amazing!

  • Amazing performance. Thanks for posting.

  • all his songs are very deep and have definite meanings good song

  • Meh, he actually has said in interviews that he leaves room in the lyrics for fans to somewhat come up with their own meanings.

  • Jeremiah Green=the definitive drummer in indie

  • My favorite all-time drummer though is Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt.

  • Jeremiah wrecks, I freaking love the drums in this song.

  • @Iglio11 And one of the coolest people ever.

  • @BruisedEyeSockets Apparently he's really nervous/weirded out in person, I know a friend of a friend who met him, apparently he just talked about his cats.

  • @Iglio11

    Idie PFF!

  • @Iglio11 the fuckin' truth

  • Isaac kinda looks like that guy from Mission Hill here

  • Fav Modest Mouse song EVER.

  • God i love how jeremiah comes up with the most perfect parts for modest mouse! compliments the music perfectly!

  • I totaled my SRT-8 Neon while this song was blasting on my stereo,it is still my favorite song.

  • great fuckin story would read again

  • I wish I could drum like Jeremiah Green.

    :(

  • this old vid just enlightened my night

  • lcw is a brilliant album and long drive is good. but i still like some newer stuff, issac brock is a great lyricist i love the synical and contradicting lyrics!

  • Lonesome crowded and the moon are my Favs but I dont mind the new stuff like some

  • what an insane beat

  • Isaac made sloppy guitar playing into the most beautiful thing ever with this song.

  • Building, Drive, LCW M&A, Good News, Ship, would have to be my order. I thought sss was awesome but only because i am a fan of their work. you honestly cant say that its their best though. Night on the sun and Red hand case are my favorite songs.

  • Great video. One of the best for audio and video I've found on youtube. I understand that the audio is dubbed, but still. Totally worth it and synched very well.

  • I had no idea that Modest Mouse was this good, Oh man so bueno. So different and so much more emotional and raw then their new stuff.

  • i can't get enough of that drum action

  • why is issac brock sooo good?

  • "I cross roads...."

  • One of the coolest sounding drum lines ever made by man.

  • Yay. I'm not the only one who thinks that.

  • god I love this fuckin song!!!

  • lonesome crowded west is insane.

  • my favourite song by them

  • i just jizzed. in. my pants.

  • haha i love how at 7:25 he stops to tune

  • awesome, thanks!

  • Amazing, one of my favorite songs live! The audio sync is seemless too!

  • 2:55-3:30 is sick!

  • manic, did you get your name from "ugly casanova" the person? the one that mm met and then he just disappeared?

  • what album is this off?

  • Lonesome Crowded West. Most fans say it's there favorite album and for good reason too. Definitely one of their all time bests.

  • Definitely the best

  • lonesome crowded west is far superior to This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About and just a little better than Moon & Antarctica

  • I would tend towards Lonesome Crowded West because I think as an album, it's more complete and cohesive than Moon and Antarctica... It has the same sort of desolate, existential, world-turned-to-shit feel throughout, wrung out more than their previous stuff.

  • personaly imy favorites are Lonesome, then Building Nothing, and then Long Drive. but we all have our own opinion

  • I AGREE

  • All are great albums. For me, Sad Sappy Sucker is their best. It's purely a matter of opinion. =)

  • Yeah they're all fantastic.. Even the newest one. Its hard to rank them.. They're all so different.

  • WOW, I can't believe someone said that! To each his own though. All are great albums! Personally I feel they did away with alot of elements they built upon throughout the first two albums on M&A, which I didn't like at all. For me its LCW, Long Drive, then Moon. I think most would agree with this order, or Long Drive, LCW, then M&A. Either way, all are good! :)

  • Pick ''The lonesome crowded west'' up man, I fell in love with it automatically.

  • isaac with something other than a wicks or a prs and it was still a three piece band...good times.

  • Why the fuck does it matter what guitar he has? He can afford nice guitars now, don't hate.

  • this is a great video, quality is great and you synced it perfectly. well done

  • i love dis.

  • puta madre modest mouse es laneta all righ

  • Does anyone know anything about Jeremiah's life, as in is he a self taught drummer or did he have lessons? He's just so technically amazing, my head just can't comprehend it!

  • excellent video.. great to be able to see jeremiah doing his thing on one of their (or his, at the very least) best songs.

  • Someone once told me Modest Mouse's drummer sucked. I wish I had this video in my pocket at the time to wave in front of their face

  • Jeremiah Green is a fuckin beast, he was rated #37 out of the top 50 drummers of all time on some rock magazine, Spin or Blender or something like that, I'd have to look it up later. Should've been a lot higher in my opinion but whatever. Whoever told you he sucked, applepie, is probably the biggest shithead to walk this planet.

  • yeah he's one of my top 10 fave drummers. In fact I don't understand people saying ANY mouse musicianship sucks, except for people who hate Isaac's vocals (which I love, but can understand those who dont). But the guitar, bass, and drums...all impecible.

  • I would say my favorite drumming in any MM song would be Every Penny Fed car. It's amazing and he was only like 16 at the time.

  • "Went through the Carolinas and paid the rent." I saw this band in a very small bar in Charleston SC in the summer of 94 and had no idea they would eventually be as huge as they are now. Didn't think much of them until I heard this song on lonesome crowded west. Then it hit me that this was the band all grown up.

  • this is an amazing truckers atlas, way better than the studio version! Damn you're a lucky lucky person!!!

  • way better???

  • Jeremiah Green is SICK!.....thats Jeremiah Green,right?

  • This is by far my favorite video on youtube. ^_^

  • I wish I was older so I could have seen this show, too bad I was 6 haha

  • i kno right, i was 8. sick video

  • i was 2.... lucky enough i saw this played in june :)

  • you are one lucky fucker that is one badass truckers atlas

  • Jeremiah is such a fucking amazing and underrated drummer. I've tried learning the drum intro to this song and its so tricky to get all the little fills just right, he's incredible!

  • yeah i used to be able to do this beat when i played drums long time ago but fuck yeah he is like one of my favorite drummers, great video by the way

  • Yea i dont play drums but this song made me recognize him alot. he is my favorite drummer

  • hey is that eric judy on bass? i don't think so.....but mebbe. if anyone knows the bass player please let me know

  • yeah man it's eric.

  • It does bother me too about "not" playing old songs. But you really have to understand I play in a band and we too have old songs that we don't enjoy playing anymore. And we always find playing our new songs exciting to play. Its just a different perspective between the fans and the band on what sounds better to them.

  • as soon as he said box in a cage I thought One Chance off of Good news for people who love bad news.

  • yeah? except this was in 98 when you were watching barney

  • no i was 14 and confused about the changes with my body. lol actually i was looking everywhere i could to find atleast one modest mouse album

  • I do lines and I cross roads

I've crossed the lines of all the great state roads

  • dude i saw this song live man it was incredible so incredible such a powerful energy erupts from this band

  • i like how at the end he's just tuning his guitar. what a badass

  • yeah he im surprised his tuning the standard wau when alot of people don't do that anymore lol

  • damn nice video, and for a second i thought it was someone else because isaac looks skinny in this video than he normally is haha, but yeah this kickass thanks for posting.

  • he looks so skinny because i think he was addicted to cocaine in the 90's but i think he stopped when the new millenium hit because now it looks like he gained alot of weight.

  • its hard for me to believe that i was only 10 when i got interested in MM. I remember seeing "Float On" on MTV at my grandmas house and i would sit right infront of the TV with the volume blasting.

I got "Good News" as a present from my parents in August when it came out. they would allow me to buy a CD to listen to when we were driving to Maryland. I remember i couldn't stop listening to "The View" and from then on I was Hooked. haha good times..

  • Why the hell did this comment get a down vote? Good News is just as good as every thing else MM has done. Float On is a fun song, too. Not to mention, Isaac pretty much said himself "Fuck your ideals, it keeps the lights on in my house." Listen to Black Cadillacs, The World at Large, Satin in a Coffin, Spitting Venom, Parting of the Sensory and tell me they've changed at all. Hipsters are scum. Modest Mouse has and always will be amazing.

  • well said

  • There's so much difference now. Stars are Projectors against We've Got Everything? Bankrupt on Selling against Missed the Boat? Edit the Sad Parts against Ocean Breathes Salty? I can keep going. It's just harder to listen to some of these newer songs. Yeah there are a few jems in between, but I don't want to have to be a diamond hunter when I listen to Modest Mouse.

  • haha i like ocean breathes

The others not so much... well missed the boat is ok

  • yeah but thats only half of it...

  • It's IsaaC

    ..Just saying.
