  • was harvick in this race or did they not find a replacement yet

  • @legohalonascarfan3 yes he was in it the Goodwrench Chevy was white and black with a black 29 on it

  • 1st race without Dale Earnhardt in it since 1978.

  • I guess the track announcer was exempt from the "silent lap 3" idea. Nice to see they did the same thing at the 2011 Daytona; missed the race but saw the video the next day.

  • @CycloneGU well they usually are because the announcers your hear on the radio are usually the radio guys

  • no way i could have been composed in that situation, i would have been sobbing like crazy :(

  • Anyone have the prerace?

  • Comment removed

  • if Dale Sr. had not died, Gordon would not of won the championship in 01 and Johnson probably wouldnt have 5 championships.

  • @406590 why do you say that? just interested in knowing why

  • @406590

And Kyle Busch wouldnt have any teeth

  • @406590 2001 has NOTHING to do with Johnsons 5 championships.

  • I give a lot of credit for Michael and Steve Park for not going after Ron Hornaday. I like Hornaday, but I would've had so much anger built up inside of me if I were Michael or Steve and I would've gone after Ron. Accident or not, I would've had so many emotions going through my head.

  • Boy, what a terrible first two weeks for Dale Jr. His father dies in the Daytona 500, then he crashes the next week.

  • I was at this race, it hurt big time

  • Fucking hornish needs shot for that one

  • @SilentPsych2012 That was Ron Hornaday, not Sam Hornish.

  • this has nothing to do with what the video is really about, but why doesn't NASCAR come here anymore?

  • @LostHighwayFilms there were 4 tracks in the carolinas, nascar wanted to spread out. so they stopped going to north wilkesboro and rockingham

  • @LostHighwayFilms The speedway owners bought the dates to use for frigging California which they FINALLY found the era of their ways and switched it to Phoenix...much better track, they need to come here again. You should thank Andy Hillenburg for improving and buying the track and making it much better.

  • @LostHighwayFilms Rockingham's not really near a big city, and they were having a hard time getting enough people to attend the races here.

  • they should do a silent lap 3 every race

  • when i first saw this crash i almost cried. probably one of the worst moments that i've seen in nascar.

  • @ChrisMolyneaux93 it looked like he crashed at same angle as his daddy

  • What I don't understand is why is he wearing an open-face hemet?? His dad might still be alive if he was wearing a full-face.

  • @JJ48524 well remember after sr crahed the hans devise was manditory soo his head wont his the steering wheel so the don worry about that

  • @famousfever2 That's not my point. Dale Sr. would probably still be alive if he didn't wear an open faced helmet at Daytona. His chin hit the steering wheel, killing him. You'd think that NASCAR would've mandated that drivers had to wear full-face helmets. Not only did one kill Sr., but it was also much easier for drivers to get burns on their faces in firey crashes.

  • @JJ48524 Not to say he didnt hit his steering wheel or no other injurys would of been a factor in his death, including the failed seat belt, but the reason he died was the lack of the HANS device which would of prevented his spinal cord from seperating from his brain stem which caused him to bled out in seconds, Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin, Jr. died months apart from each other as a result of the same injurys the previous year, they both wore a full faced helmet, but hit the wall head on causing

  • @JJ48524 the head to keep moving tearing the brain stem away from the spinal cord.

  • this was the hardest race to watch... i about lost it when jr wrecked... shoutout to jr for keeping his composure like that...

  • this was the hardest race to watch... i about lost it when jr wrecked...

  • this was the hardest race to watch...

  • Sounds like Mike Joys about to cry @1:53

  • Before the green flag during one of the pace laps did you see Jeff Gordon give up the pole position in honor of Dale? That is when I gained so much respect for him.

  • wish they would put rockingham back on to the schedule

  • weird how jr's crash looked exactly like Sr's

  • sad i miss dale sr. i made a movie of dale sr see it. click on my profile and see it. its called Dale Earnhardt The Best. past this movie along to all your friends so we all can remember dale sr

  • "this cannot be happening to that young man" Chokes me up everytime

  • They should do a silent lap 3 in the 500 this year.

  • @Blizfam They should do it every race from now on

  • @Blizfam they are actually.

  • he crashed in turn #3

  • I felt bad for dale and still feel bad for dale he lost his father at such a young age

  • Good for Hornaday. Dale Sr. didnt hire him instead of Michael. Maybe Hornaday would of gave DEI a championship.

  • I have this whole race taped let me know if you would like it uploaded

  • @tylerebill Ya man upload it!!! Would love to see it, do you have the pre race too??

  • @tylerebill Do you have the pre race? Please upload it, its something we would all love!!! Thanks

  • @EarnhardtsYear08 yeah actually i have the whole pre race and the race up until the posteponement (if thats a word) but sadly i dont have day 2 (the finish)

  • @tylerebill Wow awesome, all I care about it the pre race, it would be awesome if you could upload it :D

  • @EarnhardtsYear08 Agreed.

  • @tylerebill Yeah, if you can, and you have it, by all means, Upload the pre-Race. I myself have been searching for years to see it and have not found it yet. We have the finish on Youtube already, but not the pre-race.

  • @tylerebill hell yes! :)

  • This was spooky.

  • 2 people dont like dale earnhardt.

  • @glynnracing79 I will reply to this in the calmest possible way. The complete ignorance of you statement leaves me with nothing to say. Saying that somebody should have died makes you equal to people like Hitler.

  • @glynnracing79 whats wrong with you, i dont even know what to say. thats the most awful thing someone could ever say about him. how dare you

  • @jrfan07 G F Y

  • i think dale jr. was trying to be like his dad. no offense

  • @storm24awesome : PRETTY GOOD PERSON TO BE LIKE DON'T YA THINK?

  • Comment removed

  • Y dont nascar race here anymore its allways exciting please tell me YYYYYY!!!!!!!

  • I Cried So hard when Jr Crashed

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, bud didn't the silent lap 3 tribute inspire FOX to do the "crank it up" thing in later seasons?

  • @SonicXisnow2009 they did the crank it up at daytona in '01 as well, it came before dale's death

  • that looks like sr.'s wreck... RIP

  • that was awesome to jr wreck lol brings back memories

  • #3 rip

  • thank the lord that steve park won this

  • God dammit, Hornaday

  • This was so heartbreaking.

  • Yeah, I really thought it was OK putting Cali second on the schedule but the way things are now, California shouldn't be 2 on the schedule.

  • ive been to the rockingham speedway and it is a very fast and exciting track

  • I feel so bad for Dale his dad and then this

  • i noticed the #7 crew was wearing #3 hats

  • it was too soon for him to come back after his fathers death, but thats junior always the race car driver just like his daddy

  • The driver of the #7 really fucked up during that race...

  • @Jesant13 the 7 ran in to them when they got up to the wall, the 14 of Ron Hornaday hit jr.

  • tht crash looked like earnhardt sr's.

  • does Jr get back in this race???

  • @superkryp13

    no.

  • @1986Sheri thanks

  • @superkryp13

    you're welcome.

  • what a deuce that announcer was not silence during lap 3 he probally didnt like sr at all

  • @miles24fig He wasn't part of Fox - Fox were the ones who said they would be silent on lap 3.

  • that really hurts when you crash on the first lap a week after his father died just the simliar way

  • man you can hear mike joy chokin up

  • thank god for the Safer barrier.

  • Do you have Waltrip's interview with Helton during the pre-race?

  • the fuckin announcer is talkin during the silent lap 3. wat a guy

  • maybe the dude didn't know. i mean, it was the first week they did this since Dale's passing. it could have been a TV thing but i assumed it caught later on during the season.

  • MRN was not doing that tribute.

  • @PepsiLovinRacer24 the announcer is the tracks' not Fox's

  • @PepsiLovinRacer24: Unfortunately, it's his job, I don't think he hated Dale Sr. that much so he would spoil Dale's rememberance. Especially now that we had a bad crash for Jr., he HAD to keep the people up to date. He DIDN'T WANT to, but he HAD to.

  • @PepsiLovinRacer24 only the tv announcers participated, not the announcers at the track

  • i remember going to this race... very emotional day.... i still have that #3 triangle flag that fan hold up at beginning of race.... sea of black

  • the radio guy needs to stfu on lap 3!!! stupid basterd

  • Thank you for posting this. I hadn't seen this since it aired. Sounds like Mike Joy got choked up when describing the crash. Eerily similar to the Dale Sr. crash only one week before.

  • But at least Jr wasn't going nearly as fast thanks to the sharper turns at Rockingham compared to Daytona.

  • Zzzzz huh wha? Oh, thought you had something worthwhile. My bad.

  • What was Hornadays problem. Lap 1 dude. Man I really felt bad for Jr after this crash. Loses his father in the Daytona 500 on the last lap, then on the first lap of the next race he gets wrecked the same way his dad did.

  • thats not even close to how dale sr. got wrecked. hornaday drove it in way to hard

  • i meant that by the angle at which he hit. they both hit the wall at a similar angle

  • oh. sorry, i misunderstood

  • its ok

  • The Kodak car in front of Jr must have slowed, causing Jr to slow and Hornaday had nowhere to go but into the back of Jr.

  • who was driving the kodak car?

  • I think Kenny Wallace, but not entirely sure.

  • Correction, it was Robby Gordon.

  • oh figures lol

  • Yep. :3

  • Robby Gordon.

  • of course lol

  • robby gordan in 2001

  • The crash looks like his fathers.

  • its sorta errie the crash looks similar to his fathers last crash... really errie look at dales crash its simmilar.. R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt Sr. your a legend and will never be forgotten your my idol and i was only 3 when you died I wish i could have met you.

  • same with me....

  • You can hear Mike Joy kinda crying at 1:56

  • can someone post the pre-race show from this race? that was one of the most emotional, and i remember bits of it, but i'd like to see it again.

  • I hated Jeanne Zelasko. She was so annoying

  • Yes, she was a bitch.

  • I like how they switch the lap 3 number to Dale Sr.'s car number at 4:15.

R.I.P Dale Earnhardt Sr, you will always be missed.

  • i agree rockingham has really exciting racing

  • How does new hampshire have a race in the chase, Rockingham would be so much better!!

  • man watch the replay had the same movement and hit the wall the same way as his Sr at daytona. o yea rockingham was such a good track 1 of my fav i was pissed off when they took it off the schedule. guess it wasnt appealing to the "new" nascar

  • 4:41 - 4:45

listen to the announce in the background:

up in turn #3 now the track maintenance crew continuing to work on dale earnhardts car.

sounds like the daytona 500 =[

    we miss you dale.

  • u suck

  • didnt all 3rd laps were under caution dat year or something like dat

  • no the announcers just didnt talk durin the 3rd lap

  • Go rockinham Screw Califionia

  • hell yeah!!!!!

  • @99boyz YES CALIFORNIA SUCKS!!! California/ the new Las Vegas/ Watkins Glen/ Darlington used to be cool and one other track I cant think of but if they banked California that would be worth it!!! Sadly I did not start watching racing until 2001 I think it was when Bobby Labonte flipped over on the last lap. Good thing he was OK!

  • i remember that

i felt bad for dale jr in that wreck

  • i kno he couldve won this race for his father

  • 1:55, 2:11-2:14

did anyone notice at these times Mike Joy (or whoever it is) sounds like he is crying

  • For Junior especially, racing the week after Dale Earnhardt died proved to be too much.

  • Man, they forgot to tell the track comentarist to shut up in lap #3.

    Thought for Dale Jr.

  • notice all the threes, turn three, there were other coicidences with three that year, can't remeber them now though. Hey go easy on Hornaday, I'm related to him. My mom and him are cousins by blood.

  • very similar to Earnhardt Sr.'s last lasp crash in the 500 a week earlier.

  • 4:41 - 4:45

listen to the announce in the background:

up in turn #3 now the track maintenance crew continuing to work on dale earnhardts car.

sounds like the daytona 500 =[

    we miss you dale.

  • wow.. the race before he loses his father and now he gets in a crash..

  • sorta scrary in a wierd way

  • I was there sunday, and monday.

  • we should still be racing at this track damnitt.

  • Hornaday was a joke of a Winston Cup driver.

  • This was eerie. And it rained a little while after that? It really makes you wonder.

  • Look at the way the car behaves in this wreck and then look at Dale Earnhardt's fatal accident. In both wrecks, the car swerves left then shoots up the track nose first into the wall. Granted there were different circumstances that cause each accident but the way the car acted in both wrecks was eerily similar.

  • I noticed that too, way weird.

  • Lap 3 was very hard to sit through with silence.

  • what happenes when they get silent they will always do it in turn 3 imagine that?

  • man, if dale were still around he woulda had like 10 championships by now

  • I believe he would have retired before 2004

  • man, on lap 3, shut the megaphone guy up!!!!! Its supposed to be a lap of silence

  • A KYLE FAN RESPECTING AN EARNHARDT!?!??!?!?! wow 1 good 18 fan

  • thanx. i like them both. glad jr ended his drought at michigan

  • wow , nice hear something else from a kyle fan than Dale jr sucks.

  • He had a really hard year that year. Poor guy.

  • I would punch Ron Hornaday, lol

  • Maybe More likely next year.

  • Question for Jr Fans:

Do you think, now with the infamous Hendrick Engines under him, will he Win a championship?

I say if he does, the state North Carolina is out to Holiday for a month.

  • this is a reply to hiei2k7's comment-

he would have a good season and some wins but he always had something break or he crashed out.

  • Poor Guy!!!!!

  • Man your an ass Sterling Marlin did not kill SR If you ever look at that race you can see he got lose when Rusty got a good run on him and made Dale moved down.

  • it was elliot sadler anyway.

  • u guys are both wrong dale lost control he was trying to block its called racing.

  • Elliot Sadler wasn't even racing then. Dale hit Ken Schrader, Schrader didn't have anything to do with it. Yes if Ken wasn't there Dale might have lived but there is no way we can know. You can't blame anyone for a death in a racecar because there is always that chance no matter what. Dale knew that, all of these drivers know that but they go out and race because they love it. So either quit trying to blame it on other people or just don't speak at all please.

    P.S. I am a big Earnhardt fan.

  • Elliott Sadler has been in the cup series since 1999

  • I meant he wasn't driving that car....

  • he was racing in 2001, but he was in the 21 ford for the wood brothers

  • wow heavymetalhippie13 is a total dumbass. first of all, elliot sadler wasnt in that car, second of all, it wasnt his fault he was far back when dale lost control, third of all, he was really concerned when the 3 car and 38 cars stopped, KEN SCHREDER was really worried about Dale.
