Hehehe... That's what I thought at first (and I still kind of do!).

What I did with "Day's Wait" was randomly assign chords to change at certain words (or not so random... it depends on what you want to do with the song...)

Then, I started by strumming to each syllable in the lyrics.

Suddenly, it clicked. The vocal melody should pop right out of the guitar chords (or piano; whichever works best for you!). It's usually the root note, but it's more unique if you... To be continued...

Then what you do, is try not to strum with the syllables, and create a strumming pattern that works with the syllables!

When I figured this out, I was literally like "YES! I DID IT!! I FIGURED IT OUT!!!"
