Whatever the gallon amount of the tank is you would need that much weight in substrate to make an inch through out the tank. If you want two inches just double the weight. An inch and a half is one and a half times the weight. Remember the more substrate in the tank the more area to siphon when cleaning and possibly the higher the nitrates because of fecies. Good luck with your tank...
@cruzpatrick67 I used 2 x 36" Coralife Lighting 96W. Its frequency is 6700k. Very bright and also very good for planted tanks.
These are however a little expensive, but there are lots of other alternatives nowadays. Cheapest being a do-it-yourself for under $60. Just try to get 6700k or even 10000k.
I got rid of my Emperor same day it came, was horribly noisy. Picked up a Cascade 500 replacement. Which has been running like a champ since day 1 now.
@frigy2 So why did you remove the Emporo 400s? Im curious about getting either an Emperor 400 or a Penguin 350. My tank is a 55gallon freshwater. My current filter is waaaay too small for it. My water turns kinda yellowish, but tahts from my own personal neglect.
Hi I have a 60" x 24" x 20" fish tank , and I need help with the substrate ? , how much kg of sand do I need for a 1" - 2" inch of substrate?

Nice activity in your tank. I agree with others that you should lose the sponge filter. I think you have enough filtration already. It's an eyesore.

What kind of filtration system are you using? Are the sponge filters I see the only filter that you use?

Very nice aquarium! Thanks for the vid.
But you really shouild ditch the humongus, butt-ugly, sponge filter. Your eyes are drawn to it like a train wreck.

Just ordered an Emperor 400 for my 35 gallon. Couldn't beat the price. $57 with free shipping.
SteveCrothers 2 years ago
Thats a good price :)
I upgraded my filtration recently.
Now I have:
2 x FX5
2 x Powerheads
1 x Hydro Sponge V
Basically, I removed the Emperor 400s and Rena XP3 and then added an FX5 :)

TylerMiddaugh07 2 years ago
thats almost what I have for my 125G! LOL
thats certainly overkill for a 55G (unless its really overstocked)
I'm working on a 75G planted community tank right now. stay tuned for a video around the end of this month (still collecting & ordering specimens :D)

about 9-10 fish tend to be cave dwellers, so they spend most of their time in that rock formation I created for them :)
