Well now, I haven't inspected the top of the vertical fine on a Sundowner but if it's anything like the archer then it will have a plastic fairing held on with screws, if this is the case, use this point to mount the camera. We just made up a right angle piece of aluminium and screwed it on using the fairing screws - three of them I think. As for flight handling, there were no changes at all, I doubt it would make any difference regardless to what moves you made. Hope this helps.
Hey there! Great video by the way, and if you would be so kind, please answer the following question. I am a cpl student and for our graduation we want to create a video with our school planes. Wed like to mount a go pro camera on a plane, the model being a Beechcraft Sundowner, what would be the best place to mount it and how would the aerodynamics be affected. What would we have to do in order to guarantee a safe flight... avoid steep turns, sideslips... etc? Again, my compliments for the vid!
No, the camera's tiny and the plane is of reasonable size, the rig we used to mount it was just a 90 degree piece of aluminium that bolted to the top of the fin where there are existing mount holes. Just to re-mention, I'm a aircraft engineer by trade so I know what the plane and rig would have been capable of. Cheers!
Neither, used part of the aircrafts own structure and aircraft grade aluminium to manufacture a custom mount. Wouldn't have wanted it to fall off now.... Cheers!
Same here for mine. I didn't want to risk loosing the camera so I machined up a few mounts for the different locations. I used the double sided tape mounts for inside and between the cabane struts, but the camera was also supported by tie wraps.
Hi There, not got one, sorry.

@fortressislandfilms Can we buy your mount anywhere? And will it work the same if we put it on the wing? Or do we have to screw it in?

@danthecat21 it's an "error" that happens on overbright areas in certain videos.

Won't the camera create drag on the tail? Causing it to pitch left a bit?
