  • thanks for the video

  • You said...schmuts...! lol!

  • Hi. Im a joiner and have been doing alot of stud walls lately. and iv seen drywallers using the paper jointing tape rarther then the webbed jointing tape. I have asked them but they have no idea why they have just been tought thats how its done. In my mind it dosnt make sence the webb stuf seems better due to if having the holes for the plaster to grip. hoping you could shed some light on it please.

Nice video by the way Ad

  • Dominick, been watching drywalling vids all morning before I make the trip to home depot to get some supplies. This is by far the best one I have come across. Kudos!

  • @johnnydugs Thank you very much.

  • Gorgeous!

  • Is there any difference between mixing your own sheet rock and premix sheet rock?

  • @vangrollerboi if you mix it, durabond is what it's called, it dries faster and it doesn't shrink, meaning less coats!

  • @blackcorr Yeah I know, I'm always on my guys to just do it like me.. LOL

  • nice concise explanation...thank you!

  • Your a great teacher!!! I can't wait to do it this way!

  • You are much fun, dude!!!! I absolutely love your video. oh by the way. I am a teacher, and I want to tell you that you teach very well too. As a female, one feels scare to persuit things like these, but I am working on restoring my house after a fire, so this video does it for me. Keep up the good teaching.

  • I wish i'd seen this a week ago...had to do 12 inside corners. Next time i'm definately doing the second coat after it dries...

  • @de0xyrib0se Well better late then never I always say.

  • you dont mix or addwater to your mud at all?

  • @MrCandew Mix yes, water never

  • Thx for reply, I think you are a good contractor and thank you very much for posting your video's online.

  • @DominickDiy can you please make a video asap about fixing a veryy large hole in drywall ? pleeeaassee

  • Dominick,

Great video. I have one question. Some videos I have seen instruct you to quickly run the folded tape through water. You don't have this step. What is the reason for wetting the tape?

    Thanks

  • Thanks. Your style is easy to follow.

  • @springing Thank you so much. Glad I was able to help

  • Do you just mud screw hole or do you tape them too? I haven't dry walled in years and I just cant remember

  • hi, Is there a particular kind of joint compound that you prefer or find better than the others? Or do you just go for the generic brand as it does not matter?

  • thaks to your info im starting my garage this weekend, thanks

  • @sdy0174 Garages are nice to have. Glad I could help

  • Great explanation..!!!

  • great video Dom. It's good to get the info from someone who does the job instead of a TV host who doesn't have a clue...

  • @PengellyInk1 That's one of the reasons I started this. Thank you..

  • What if i'm using tap with holes? same method for bending it?

  • @domains38 Yes, but you should use solid tape without holes.

  • nice touch. do I have to worry about cracks after? Some ppl use an inside corner bead. Can I get away with just using tape?

  • @whelen9m On the inside you would use just tape. But on the outside you would have to use a corner bead.

  • very cool. fun to watch. thanks!

  • why arent youre internals screwed off? allows way to much movement and will crack over time.

  • nice job

  • Dom you look like a friend of mine diamond dave that works in Brooklyn. He does dry wall and painting as well.

  • @dinamo4889 Nope not me, although I'm only about 90 miles from Brooklyn and we just did a job there a few weeks back.

  • @dinamo4889 I think he looks a little like Jim from taxi

  • hahaha great personality man!

I did one side of the corners first....only because I didn't have a corner trowel, but I wasn't in no hurry in that hot ass garage LOL

  • nice one dominic...I've "helped" drywaller/plasterers before and tomorrow I start a job I completely blagged, saying I AM a drywaller, so I've been on youtube all night!! Thanks for the advise mate!

    A

  • Dominic you rock!! I can now proudly be one of maybe 5 girls homedepot sees regularly buying Sheetrock and knowing what I'm doing. Not about to let anyone hire me, but totally can do stuff myself now. Thanks!!

  • What do you think of special corner tools?

  • Thanks Dominick. This helped a bunch. We are taping and bedding seams all over our mobile home before painting with Kilz and texturing. I feel a lot more confident after watching this.

  • @DonnaCRodgers Glad I could help

  • @DominickDiy thanks for the vid man very helpful now is tape time

  • nice guy

  • love you Dominick, u saving me lots of money :)

  • Thanks

  • This guy is pretty cool he kinda looks like a gental Rasputin

  • dominick love the video, very clear and easy to understand,i´m about to tackle my first plasterboard job and the question is how do you apply a paper joint to an inside corner when 1 of them is not smooth,i.e 1 wall has gotelé(flecked paint) on it

  • GREAT HELP! Thanks a lot!

  • pause at 350

  • Take a look at the T-Ripper to assist with all your sheetrock/ drywall work.

  • Good explanation make sense Thanks!!

  • how necessary is the tape?

  • Thanks Dom, You are a born teacher. You have helped me out on a few projects.

  • Thanks Dom. Good job explaining this process.

  • Excellent video - I'm officially subscribing

  • there is also a product made by plasterx over here in aus and we call it wet and stick, it has a sticky side when wet much like the glue on a postage stamp when you lick it.

So you cut and fold your tape, run it through water, and apply it directly to the wall, no mud required. Still need to run over it with your broad knife to make sure its nice and flat and the corner is nice and sharp.

Once dry... sticks like shit to a blanket, just apply your topping compound over the top.

  • good mr bold...that helped

  • aesome dude thanks alot

  • i like this guy

  • @danielmanual87 LOL Thanks

  • i like this guy hes funny

  • Thanks Dominic. I'm always fighting with inside corners mainly because when doing 2nd coat I always touch the opposite wall with the corner of the knife... so your video does raise a great point doing them separately. Another issue I have with inside corners is that they don't dry inside I waited two days and I still couldn't sand the inside because it was wet under the tape...

  • thank you. very helpful

  • Thanks, Dominic. Appreciate you taking the time to show us!

  • I would let this guy work on my house. :D

  • good job man minus the screw head , ive been i professional drywall/ painter my whole life to the people saying you need to wet the tape theres no need for that and the tape will rip easier . add half of cup of water to a 5 gal bucket of green lid dry wall compound and mix then your good to go, if you use blue or light blue lid it will dry out to fast leaving bubbles and voids

  • Good video Dominick. You have a very cool personality...

  • hey dominick, thanks for the video. I have been taping for years, not professionally but enough to know but lately i have found it hasn't worked so well. It looks like i have airpockets but they are not. They are hard and just dry that way. A second coat covers no problem but why does this happen? Is my mud too dry? I have used the dust control stuff lately and I wonder if that is why. What are your thoughts?

  • Hey Dominic, you left the screw hangin out! Have fun sandin!

  • Hey Dominic, you left the screw hangin out! Have fun sandin!

  • getter done

  • Shouldn't it be sanded though before painting?

  • @myke232 yes

  • I like to wet the tape in a bucket and then run it through some wet mud. I use to use your method in the past but if the Tape drys out to quick the Darn thing leaves an air pocket under neath. Then looks like crap after the primer wets it. Not to mention it will set you back some time to do the repair. ARgh. Have you tried to use some Hot Mud. HAHA! same thing happens the darn tape dry out to quick with that mud every time.. Live in Learn. Good Vid thou man. you take your time and explain well

  • Can you tape to wooden shelves? I ran the sheetrock right up to wooden shelves and would like to mud right on the shelves.

  • good video.. At the end when you said do your second coat and paint it.. Im pretty sure you would want to sand it before painting it.

  • Thanks Dominick! Awesome work.

  • I never knew that was under the paint on my walls.

  • That's a good corner - I can see that even from here.

  • also for anyone asking get a a bright light in the room....it helps finding the high spots on the walls...trust me it helps haha

  • Should you not wet the tape first?

  • @wildnutria No not at all. It makes sense to do that but don't.

  • @wildnutria naw no need for wetting the tape....prolly be easyier but nopers.....the hardest part for taping for me was getting started my first time btw,lol after that its easy (yea i no dom prolly answer it first haha...been a long day so im dehind on things)
