The Romans the Huns the North and South in the Civil War the Russians in WWII. As much as we want to believe otherwise the Mexican army, at the time, was the largest best trained best armed and most experienced in North America. Santa Anna and his troops had just spent 2 years putting done rebellions all over Mexico. When they arrived at the Alamo they were ready.

@ 5.23 on Clip 9.5, the officer talking to Santa Anna says that Houston "está a dos leguas de acá" - 2 leagues away from here NOT two miles but twice the distance you can march in an hour on good terrain hence about 8 miles or 12 kilometres. Legua is an approximate unit still used in Mexico.
