my first build was the scientific "sizzlin liz" mustang in 1967 this was a Musiano design too I think...being 11 years old back then I can still remember the sense of accomplishment when the plane flew so well...
Ah, it seems so simple. Flying these little boogers on grass translates into a tumble at every landing. And who wants to toss his nice freshly painted masterpiece across the lawn to see what breaks?
The airplane was repaired, and even took an award at the next Musciano contest. After adding some nose weight and reducing the elevator travel, of course.
Walt Musciano himself told me years ago that we were nuts to fly anything with wheels smaller than two inches on grass.
Ah, Wheels! We flew a lot of ours w/o wheels. Actually, this was the late '70s and we didn't see a any of the Musciano kits by then. These were mostly Baby Flight Streaks and Sterling 1/2a kits.
Great to hear all went well in the end. I/m sure I've seen pictures of that particular airplane elsewhere.

What? You guys have never flown 1/2A before? They never land where or how you want them to!
If you'd have flown that thing over grass, you might have been able to pick it up and fly it again!

These small planes can be frustrating but fun!

OUCH!! Asphalt can be hard on balsa wood, try a field, just take something to clean the engine with after a crash.
