Fave striker in the 80s and 90s always took the net , centr-half and goalkeeper out!!!!! last fprward to actually hold the ball up properly with either foot and from any angle.,
I think Mark Hughes was a brilliant player and manger, and a top bloke! Dignified and respectful unlike many managers out there. Our small country has produced more top footballers than you would expect. Dal ati Mark!
dont understand why people put music over the top of great goal vids. when everyone would rather here the commentary and the noise of the freakin crowd.
He's only 47 and looks like he's in his 50's. I mean he stopped playing 8 years ago. Still, you know when people like Ryan Giggs have played for so long when people that he used to play for and against are now mangers.
Sparky, you were one of the best. Brilliant, just pure brilliant!! First goal away at Oxford. Remember it well. Wish the commentary was on instead of this music. Spoilt it..
Brilliant video, with all the classic goals there present and correct, except that one against Spain. Shame about your spelling but otherwise nice one mckan!
the best part is that he gets fouled several times in this video and doesnt just fall over like people do now-a-days, its classy to see someone take pride in what they do
found this link while trying to show a young Red how good Hughsies' goal against Spain was, saw most of his goals home and away from his first at Oxford. A legend, but must say he came back from Barca and Bayern a better all round player whose link up play was superb. No one could pull a goalkeepers long clearance down on his thigh like him. However at United he was like Bovril, love or hate him ,he was always the player I would have loved to have been, even if he did dive against Monpelier
Hey all, hows it going? you like football manager games right? i found this cool one online footy-manager com its very similar to the football manager game. check it out. its pretty cool actually.
@strunway So did you see him as shit or are you saying people considered him shit? Because someone was wrong.. By the time the Premiership started Mark Hughes had already won the PFA Players Player of the year TWICE - in 1989 and 1991, and I recalled NOBODY saying he was shit. He didn't score 25 goals a season but neither did Zola, Cantona or Bergkamp. He was never considered shit. Like you say, a great player, and the one I grew up idolising as a kid.
@bruntacus yeah... Like I said. Read my full comment. As a child u don't always consider what aspects if a footballer makes him good, generally its all about goals. I'm my little primary school he was considered shit. If I were u I wouldnt get too upset at what 35 7 year olds thought 20 years ago.
we named our dog after this pure legend... noone will every be able or ever has been able to volley a ball like he could... once a blue but always a RED!!!!
Mark Hughes kicked somone up the arse before. I was a kid at the time, and it made me crap myself laughing for about 15 minutes after. A friend has speculated that it was Chris Kamara (Sheffield United) in the FA cup and he got sent off for it. Around the 1993 time period, give or take. Does anyone remember this because I would gladly call the BBC for footage if I knew what match it was......
@howboutpete i thought it was dean saunders that kicked the opponent up the arse. the ball was about 30 yards from either player when he hoofed him right in the hoop. hilarious!
@howboutpete Yeah it was Sheffield United that Hughesy was sent off against for kicking someone up the arse. Glad somebody remembers it! No idea if it was Kamara or not, would love that to be true though! Could have been 93/94 or 94/95 - we played them away both those years in the cup. Strangely we also played them away in the FA Cup in 1989/1990 and 1992/1993!
i swear the amount of respect ive lost for City right now. Ferguson didn't start winning trophies straight away for united till like 4 years later. Moyes hasn't won anything for Everton yet. Keegan was right, it was the decision of a business not a football club to sack Hughes.
What does Hughes (or even Tevez) goin` to City have to do with the quality of their performances for United !?? Hughes was magic at United...and will always be remembered for that!
I would also like to add that most of the goals shown on this video I witnessed live at the match. Hughes was my all-time hero, like many match-going Reds of my age, but ask them now how they feel and you'll get the same response, and I'm talking specifically about 'match-going;' Reds not armchairs or new age fans.
Blue twat. How can anyone in this day and age move to them having been a United legend is beyond me. Same goes for Tevez. Pair of pricks who'll win f*** all, as always at the Boo camp.
"in this day and age" was part of my comment. Of course Sir Matt played for both, but that was in the pre Munich era where both sets of fans didn't chant that song and mock our tragic loss. Keano summed it up perfectly yesterday.
now answer me this........ how many of todays players, if they were in some of the situations he was in, i.e gettign tackled and carrying on running, would dive to get a free kick rather than stretch the defense liek he did and score
great as it is to see the goals, i'd love to watch a vid of hughsie's linking play...especially of him taking down long balls with his back to goal and distributing the ball...even though he was a beast he was such an elegant player with beautiful touch
first game i ever saw live was cos my dad is a blue... that 5 vs 1 city game. I saw the greatest goal ever that day! 1:29 - 1:39 sums up why i love Man United and why Mark Hughes has and always will be my Greatest Player of all time !!! The definitive of what a legend is ! Hughesy !!!
God the pile driver at 3:10 is one of my favourite united goals of all time. The only players who could possibly hit a volley like hughes were yeboah and le tissier
A fantastic player and I don`t even support United. He is from same vilage as me and we grew up together and fame did`not affect him one bit. A nice lad who never got enough credit during his career. He is a United legend but a huge Chelsea fan.

All big successfull clubs attract glory hunters, its the way football is. In 70 years time City might be at the level United are now and they will attract them. At the moment tho city are only guaranteed to sell out when United come. So until the day that City attract the glory hunters they will have to make do with local lads in blue shirts who will only pay to see united
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
A fair and well put point, until you show typical manyoo lies by saying only sell out when manyoo play at our place. Sold out against Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal to date. (And no, not to full 48k capacity, and never can, due to segregation at Police requirement)
Great player and a nice person off the pitch as well as he comes from the same village as me and you used to see him qute often having a drink round the village. He would quite happily talk to anyone and he didn`t have any bouncers walking round with him, just his school friends.
I watched him play for United against Liverpool towards the end of his Old Trafford days and Steve McMahon kicked lumps out of Hughes for the first fifteen minutes and the ref did nothing.
Liverpool attacked and the cameras panned right until the ball was cleared when the cameras panned back left.
McMahon's limp body was unconscious in the centre circle.
lol...i remember that actually.....The other classic was during a cup game against sheff utd I believe, when sparky booted that defender up the backside after he'd been constantly manhandled. the result was a sending off for hughes, but it was funny nevertheless
And 1 that defo should have made my list was a volley against the Scousers in the 92/93 season, apologies. It was the first goal in a comeback against Liverpool in the 92/93 season which finished 2-2. Hughesy's other goal in that game, the last minute header, is on the video in fact.
I was asked recently to name my top 10 Hughesy Utd volleys (didn't include half volleys) Anyway,(most r on this vid): 1 - Oldham FA Cup Semi 93/94 - (3:22) 2 - Everton away 88/89 season - (0:38) 3 - City away 89/90 - (1:33) 4 - Spurs away 88-89 - (not on this vid) 5 - Forest home 92/93 (0:24) 6 - Saints away League Cup 90/91(3:44) 7 - Chelsea home 91/92 (not on vid) 8 - Crystal Palace away 92/93 - (0:17) 9 - Sunderland home 90/91 (not on vid) 10 - Chelsea away 90/91 (not on vid)
The Volley against Sheff Wed at the 3:10 mark. Fuckin hell!!! If that had gone into the crowd instead he would have killed 3 people. It's probably the goal I remember most from him, it was on my birthday and I was there to see it.
Why would Hughes damage his prospects of replacing fergie by moving to City?? Surely there's not a lot of love for him from the city fans either... In any other country there would be a huge outrage by both sets of fans! I don't get it! Bad bad bad move...
Ha Ha Ha I'm nearly laughing myself stupid. Funny how his best strike isn't on that vid....Oh yeah because it was overshadowed by the 5 goals that we put past you that day
You don't even recognise your own team you bitter muppett. The volley at 1.30 is the goal you're talking about.
Typical city fuckwit, thinking they're in any way important.
Enjoying singing your songs about your 6 points, with your red legend as a manager, we'll be too busy polishing our trophies to care. Remember what they are?
its not a matter of Saha being fit or not, he gets bad injuries and works hard until he is allowed to come back by the medical staff and Sir Alex. Leave Saha alone he has scored a lot of important goals for United.
hsi one against spain for wales is his best...not in this selection but these show how class he was. 3.09 is a special moment...christ that ball moves. he scored a goal in the 93/94 season (i think) when the ball was played across goal to him and with his first touch he flicked the ball up and over the outcoming keeper and calmly slotted it home...any help finding that would be great. also...he scored a sweet first time volley/lob against chelsea i believe. not sure....anyway...class.
Fave striker in the 80s and 90s always took the net , centr-half and goalkeeper out!!!!! last fprward to actually hold the ball up properly with either foot and from any angle.,

When I was a kid MH was seen as being shit. He scored 10-17 goals a season... and was never up there with Wright, Cole, shearer.

Great player and a nice person off the pitch as well as he comes from the same village as me and you used to see him qute often having a drink round the village. He would quite happily talk to anyone and he didn`t have any bouncers walking round with him, just his school friends.

Hughes - A Legend made of stone.

And by the way i didn't include that scorcher against Sheff Wednesday, cos technically it was a half volley ;-)

Sparky was the player I pretended to be in the playground :D, him and Eric were the finest forward line in my lifetime.

Funny how his best strike isn't on that vid....Oh yeah because it was overshadowed by the 5 goals that we put past you that day
5-1 to the city!!!

whats dat on 1:33 then???
GEESUS494 3 years ago
You don't even recognise your own team you bitter muppett. The volley at 1.30 is the goal you're talking about.
Typical city fuckwit, thinking they're in any way important.
Enjoying singing your songs about your 6 points, with your red legend as a manager, we'll be too busy polishing our trophies to care. Remember what they are?

Take note Balsa Wood Saha, the goal at 1:42 was scored whilst injured. Now there's a guy who wanted to play every game despite being under 100% fit
ecca1996 3 years ago
Dickhead.
its not a matter of Saha being fit or not, he gets bad injuries and works hard until he is allowed to come back by the medical staff and Sir Alex.
