Basically In korea, the audience tend to want rather hardcore dance when it comes to SMP type songs, and thus they tacitly allow lipsyncing for it. Well, i don't mean all koreans do, some ppl hate lipsync whatsoever and i'm one of those, but majority don't care. So SM doesn't feel it's necessary to let their bands do all live in korea, more so for their throat health.

btw, LSM once even said that "Lipsyncing with hardcore dance performance can be a genre too" and this is what ppl call SMP.

In korea, dbsk is considered as idol boyband. Their marketing target is mainly young girls, and most young girls don't really care lipsync when it's hardcore dance songs.

But in japan, idol industry is almost like Johnnys boys' monopoly and there's no place to break in. So they decided to appeal their artistic side the most, and the target is people of all age. It's like "We'r not just idol, we'r true artists" strategy. So of course they never lipsync no matter what in japan.

Let's get the fact straight. DBSK's Mirotic album got sold 500,000+ copies in korea, which is far beyond 'thousands', and u have to add internet+mobile pay downloads which is considered as more decisive and bigger than cd selling market in korea these days

Overall, korean economy and music industry size is fairly decent for a small country, but japan's definitely got much larger population, economy size, and music industry. That's all why companies like SM want their artists to break in japan.

I heard Lee hyori(top singer in korea)say on radio that there's nothing like it. so she was quite impressed when people asked her if she had just lipsynched along to the pre-recorded one.
