hi love your creations i a m going to try n make one from designs in a scroll saw mag that i have cant find baltic birch ply wood in south africa could i use marine ply instead or what els could i use would apreciate ur advice
@786fuzail : Any good quality ply will do the job, so marine grade is fine. What you should look for is ply with as few voids as possible and made from hard-ish timber rather than just soft pine.
Scalable? - Yes, they would be. It is the number of teeth that would need to remain the same - the actual sizes of the wheels could change for each wheel and pinion set independant of the other wheel sets. Obviously scaling them down can be a problem due to the physical limitations of wood. Also, the bigger they are, the more weight you would tend to have to hang off them to overcome the increased friction of the increased tooth to tooth surface area.
i don't mean to come off as strident on the matter, but i honestly would rather hear (can't believe i wrote "here" in my previous. d'oh!) the clock's own glorious music.

Are plans for clocks like these scalable?
Would they still keep time if you enlarged all of the parts the same amount?
Is there some mechanical limit (due to weight and/or friction) to how big the clock could be?
You have made a number of them, just wondered how much you have tinkered with designs...
