i still miss ATWT i am glad for youtube ad glad i taped many special episodes (xmas's/chris's death/kim in coma jennifers ghost appears) When i feel down i watch these and it makes good memories.
I've been a fan since I was 9 years old (1979). Yes they're fictional characters and yes sometimes I've been furious at some of the choices the writers made (THE ANGRIEST THEY'VE EVER MADE ME IN ALL THAT TIME WAS KILLING REID OLIVER INSTEAD OF GIVING HE AND LUKE SNYDER AN "HEA.") But I have to thank writers and actors both for giving me fun, dramatic, dysfuntional friends who will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks to one and all...Goodnight.
R.I.P. Helen Wagner. R.I.P. ATWT. I've been a loyal viewer for over 25 years, and I'm very sorry they made the choice to kill Reid Oliver this way, leaving a central character like Luke Snyder alone and miserable in the end. It sends a horrible message to the gay community that all three of the characters that Goutman 'patted himself on the back' for his 'goundbreaking' story, are left either dead or alone. So I guess he used them for the publicity and then 'threw them under the train".
@SnapeGirlUSA I gotta disagree. Though I HATED Reid's death, ATWT made gay love with men real to me, just as Ellen did when she and her wife talked about their marriage. I think ATWT did a wonderful job. I hated Reid's death almost as much as I hated Alan Spaulding's death. Well, not that much, because AS was my favorite GL character.
@Thebeautiful11 I had a love/hate relationship with Alan Spaulding. But at least his death benefited the son that he loved! Reid's death was mindless and only to further the happy ending for Katie so she could have her SIXTH husband, and for the umpteenth recasting of Chris--a character who was in this unhealthy position because of HIS OWN bad decisions during this storyline. How does one root for HIM to get his happy ending at the expense of the unselfish man who was trying to help him!
@Beautiful: (cont) while I'm glad that it brought gay relationships in focus, one doesn't necessarily follow the other. If the goal is to educate the public that gays can have the same relationship as heteros, then why decimate them in the end? The message they actually sent is: you better not fall in love with another man because you'll end up alone and miserable. Or, even worse, the only benefit a gay man can have in the end is to sacrifice his own happiness for the good of a straight couple.
It's too bad that the producers included the final scene between Don Hastings and Kathryn Hays in this clip weeks before the actual finale. They also gave away all the final outcomes in advance in the soap publications and in their promos. Guiding Light was full of surprises in its last week on the air.
I have watched from 1956 to the last day. Thank you for an uplifting ending to all the story lines. I wish you would write books of these characters stories from here. I would be the first to buy!
I'm in tears. I want my ATWT back!

Goutman DECIMATED this great soap - thanks for making the show unwatchable and nailing the coffin shut.
