  • Been running ozone in my living space for awhile now. With little to no adverse effects. No burning eyes, no irritated lungs, nothing abnormal. The FDA is not a reliable source for information concerning pollutants in one's home. Considering most off the shelf products are probably more dangerous than any ozone producing device could match. Its rather ridiculous to think otherwise. You have chemical compounds that stick around for months, versus ozone which dissipates within minutes or hours.

  • Good point. Ozone is like vitamins - the right amount can do some good things, but get too many and you create some of the same problems you tried to get rid of. I've had people that were super-sensitive who had big problems with Ozone giving them irritation, and other people (like myself) who are not affected and who enjoy the cleanliness of the room.

  • Is there any link betw'n ozone and cancer. Is ozone a free radical?

    Thanks,

  • There are no written tests done on the connection. However ozone does act like a free radical - and it's why it irritates lung tissue in high amounts.

  • @AliveAir

Thanks for your answer. What about mutation of cells? Free radicals can cause cells to mutate and become cancers. When you say that ozone acts like a free radical, are you talking along these lines?

  • Good question. Let's see - Ozone is not a free radical - however it can create them. It stimulates lipid peroxidation and thus induces damages at the lipid (fat) and protein levels mainly in airways. So would an ozone machine create cancer? It would probably be a strong factor in allowing cancer to start or grow in a weak immune system. It always goes back to the bodies terrain - in other words a strong body will resist cancer/ a weak one will let these factors create problems.

  • I know when I read the manual on these machines they do say two things.

1- Place the machine in a high out of the way location (this is to allow most of the ozone to allready attach itself to dust and not you)

2- Set the machine to the SQ footage of the room you are in (no reason to be running on high, air is to smell clean not like ozone)

These are not to be use as a personal fan you put next to your chair.

  • Good points. There are other ways to accomplish the same thing as Ozone without the harm, (and ozone machines tend to be overpriced.)

  • helpful info.. Thanks

  • oZONE IS BAD.. HAD AN OZONE MACHINE CALLED ALPINE.. HURT MY LUNGS

  • It's good to treat a room.. not good to be in the room when you do

  • good overview. Ozone works for odors but hurts your lungs

  • I'd avoid ozone of any kind
