there is nothing i can say but get another RR i love my harley and we are attachted like glue. he is the best freind i have other than my wife lol. THEY ARE THE BEST.
Thanks for sharing your memories. I think about my Storm - his epitaph (written across my heart) - "Storm - he made me laugh every day. No better friend than that."
great video i lost my best friend 7 months ago and just got a RR called indy what a great dog what a new friend helps brighten every day like my old best friend did god bless many dogs out there that are waiting for a best friend too don't stop loving great vid.
What a great video and a lovely dog. We lost our RR back in July this year and I still miss him every day. We are getting a RR puppy this week and although he will never replace our last one, he will be welcome addition to our family.
Amazing! He must of given you so much love :( So sorry your baby has departed, but he looks like he had a fab time with you guys. Our puppy is a cross, but I am not too sure now I've seen you buster?????? He looks the same, just no ridge??? Thanks for the video, lovely x
i am so sorry for your loss, i was so moved watching your video thinking there is someone elso out there who loves there RR as much as i do, i didnt realise that your dog had passed till i read some comments, i have my RR for almost 2 years sometimes i think i might even love him more than my daughter. i love how u have made a video of his life showing all the joy he gave you. RIP buster!.
i hope you lived a long life .i hope u guys can bring anoher RR into ur lives
Im watching this and I see so many similarities in your RR and mine (disposition wise)......I had mine for 15 years.I miss him more than words can say. Not sure if Ill ever get another dog, losing him was just too much on me. But they are the greatest dogs ever created !!!
Its hell, but just think of your future dog out there somewhere and what a life you could give him/her. If you think of your future dog as coming from a dogshome, then surely theres no decison to make.
@cheeseydane Rhodesians are in a different class. I have 2. Jack (12) and Deacon (3) . RR's are the greatest of all warriors and they prove this while they are here with us. Fierce, Protective, Loving and Gentle. So when their time comes and their name is called, just remember it is a reward for them for a job well done. Never say "goodbye" to them..just say "see ya in a bit" and they WILL be there waiting for you on the other side...among the greatest warriors that ever lived.
Great dog, you were blessed to have him in the family. Ours is 10 months and a blast. Hope we have Barney with us as long as you had Buster. Sorry for your loss, thanks for sharing with us.
I got mine from the pound, they thought he was a boxer lab mix. Turns out he's a rhodesian ridgeback mix. Oh my gosh what a sweet heart. He didn't get very big though, he's about 60 lbs. I found out with horror that these beautiful animals are routinely killed per their breeders if they don't have the ridge on their backs. I think I'll stick with shelters and rescues instead of supporting the breeders who don't appreciate them like we do here. I love my boy. wouldn't trade him.
@Aluapay : thats not entirely true !! Dont believe everything YOU READ !! It used to be like that over 100 or so years ago, not now. Animal rights nutjobs are falsely spreading that around !
Have to agree on this although i am wary. Im not a breeder but have seen no or very little evidence(hearsay) to support these claims. Ridgebacks are fantastic dogs with or without ridges, makes no difference, and breeders know this. I have a few gripes with the breeding of Ridgebacks (ie, there are too many doing it with the wrong dogs, but nothing to support euthanasia) but then i think 99% of dogs should be castrated anyway.
@cheeseydane : there is one video in particular circulating here on YT that tries to say the breeding of RR's should be outlawed etc.. basing it on the fact that, yes, many many yrs ago they did do this (euthanize pups with no ridge)-we're talking early 1900's-and it IS dispicable! Problem with animal rights activists is they are nut jobs across the board: they try to empathize with ,say, a fish(imagining it's "feelings" etc..) -this is absolute lunacy,& yet they are pro abortion-go figure
i have one and shes my life ive had other breeds and rhodesian ridgebacks have two be my fave lovely male one off the best ive seen thanks for the film xx
What an absolutley beautiful dog! One of the best looking dogs I have seen! And he was so BIG!! He was a wonderful friend- I can tell that for sure. God bless.
What a nice vid! They are definitely a beautiful breed of dogs. That nose and appetite gets them in trouble quite a bit, lol. I actually found my girl @ 4 months abandoned behind a wharehouse.....she obviously was to much to handle for that person. I thank that unknown person everyday, 'cause he left behind an angel of a dog for me!
What a beautiful video! And what a lucky dog Buster was! I can tell he had a wonderful life! My Ridgeback has brought me so much joy also...It reminds me to cherish everyday...
Ridgebacks are fantastic but are not for everyone. Definately not a first time dog. Research the breed, go visit breeders, dogshows etc before deciding. There are too many homeless Ridgebacks in the world because people just didnt know what they were doing.
However, a well trained healthy Ridgeback is a joy to have. A good starting point is to talk to breeders(they will happily talk dog to you on the phone) and to read books. There are a few good ones my favourite is by Stig Carlson.
What a beautiful dog, looked just like my RR Nala who was only 3.5 years old and died 2 months ago from a rare form of cancer. I still am devastasted by her parting. Always in my heart.
Aint that the truth... I had an American Samoyed and I loved him... His name was Toby.... and he was the smartest dog I have ever seen.... I am thinking of getting two RR's (boy and girl) They are beautiful and I would love to have a dog as athletic as RR'S
Handsome fella ... beautiful story! Its the first RR that causes your heart to totally fall in love with the breed. My first, Coty, was with me almost 14 years. My second, Tiggs, is just over 11 and still going strong. They are just such wonderfl parts of our families it is heartbreaking when we lose them.
Our Ridgeback, also named Buster, is 11 years old now, He appears to have a few years left in him, though it takes him a lot longer to get up every day, his bones are getting stiff and he moves a LOT slower, (except when he's feeling "Sprightly") when he still occasionally leaps around like a puppy. But, I'm sure you will agree, we have never experienced a greater expression of intense love, loyalty, dedication, or snugglyness, than our Buster's have brought to us. Wish humans could learn this.
sorry for your loss, my dog is 12, Ive had him since he was 6 weeks old(I know too young-not my choice) i know hes oin the later years of his life, I dont know what ill do when hes not around... Ill be gutted, im gutted now just thinking about it
@growguyuk I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Boxer mix who is 13 years old now. His spirit seems to vary each day. Sometimes he'll seem too tired to do anything, and other times he'll be a bundle of joy. Like you said, I don't know what I will do without him. I've had him for over half of my life. It's amazing how close we get to our canine companions.
Very nice slideshow you made in honour of Buster, he was a beautiful RR! Reminds me of my "Big Guy" who we had to put down in Oct.2001, he was 46 days shy of his 14th B-day. I got another one in 2002, she is also a very big/tall girl, I love her very much. Thanx 4 sharing your pics with us.
I know the feeling when you loose a ridgeback my dog Zuice died 4 years ago i had him for nearly 13 years, i guess those who've never owned a pet for that long never understand the loss.
Beautiful dog! And he looked like he had a good life with you two. I love my Rh. mix, her name is Ginger and she is the best. I know what it feels like to lose a trustworthy dog, I had to put one down last year(whoa), just remember-
YOUR DOGS LIFE IS EVERYTHING YOU MAKE IT TO BE!!!!
@Segnatch I am sorry for your loss, as well. As I wrote to a user above, my Rhodesian Ridgeback is 13 years old and seems so weak sometimes. I don't know what I will do without him, but I pray you gather the strength to carry on day by day.
HI.great looking guy you had there,i feel your pain i lost my rr in october 07,aged 8..still gutted..your vid made me smile and remember all the good time we had..thanks phil
My dog is a cross between a RR and boxer, so she looks exactly like yours... :)

I have two RRB's
Two years old in July.
Feed them Fromms
They are great and keep each other company and though they spar hard, they sleep like pretzels.
The have hundreds of arces and they are strong and yet well behaved but full of spirit.
Garmin Astro 220 makes it easy to keep an eye on them.
Happy have two brothers and they are fixed and get along excellent all the time
