But the traditional start menu is so unbelievably efficient and easy to use. To replace it with a freaking app store is just ridiculous. Making a phone-like interface for the typical PC audience doesn't look like a good business move to me. Phones and actual computers are used for completely different tasks, and should have interfaces that reflect that.

I agree with most that say it looks very 'messy' or cluttered... but it also looks like the best functioning OS I have seen. I say this b/c I was hoping for a full blown Mac OS in a tablet form factor when the original iPad was announced. Our current tablets are awesome for casual use... but now tablets will legitimately be able to replace laptops and desktops. And for this, I must give Microsoft kudo's... even if they do need to employ someone from Google to design their UI.

@OoDVOCALISToO Yes, it's Windows 8... it's just like going from Windows XP to Windows 7, most of your same programs are going to work but there may be driver updates required for programs like Cubase.
Windows is not ditching traditional pc's (you can use k/b & mouse and ditch the Metro UI if you like). They're just broadening the OS to be able to be used on tablets as well...

And honestly, I wish Apple or even Android had come up with this first... but the ability to use REAL software on a tablet is absolutely necessary to make the devices worth their cost imo.
Lol, I say that yet I own both an iPad and an Asus Prime. But I only use them for email, browsing online, and watching movies/videos away from my desk. I wish they both did more.

Anyways, Microsoft needs to cut this shit out when dealing with Windows and the Xbox Interface. (for xbox) it hides what I need instantly, and promotes these "apps" that I don't want to use. Ever. I hope there's a "disable" option for this main menu...

WHAT is wrong with Windows 7!?
I'm a MAC user for christ sake, and even I'll admit Windows 7 has a pretty competent interface. But THIS... this is just ugly. A big cluttered mess. It might be ok for yet another tablet but for actual work and stuff this looks like a complete waste of money.

"i hate how so and so is forcing us" yet what they created for people that enjoy it is completely optional to update to. lol i hate how when i tried to read the comments you forced me to read yours...

they're making a OS thats for tablets and releasing it to pc and people and still admired that it can boot fast in a laptop. If it's optimized for tablet and booted on a nice pc then yes, 8 sec. boot is possible. Other than that, do not release it to pc's, is a mistake. Either way, i'm gonna stay with Mac os X. eheh

I agree with most that say it looks very 'messy' or cluttered... but it also looks like the best functioning OS I have seen. I say this b/c I was hoping for a full blown Mac OS in a tablet form factor when the original iPad was announced. Our current tablets are awesome for casual use... but now tablets will legitimately be able to replace laptops and desktops. And for this, I must give Microsoft kudo's... even if they do need to employ someone from Google to design their UI.

Hey it's different. Sometimes you can't knock it til you try it. I wonder if there is anyone still out there that think win2000 is still the best or xp. They were good but but win 7 is better. Windows 8 is for the future. We're not there yet and people who can't look into the future can't and won't appreciate it.

@OoDVOCALISToO Yes, it's Windows 8... it's just like going from Windows XP to Windows 7, most of your same programs are going to work but there may be driver updates required for programs like Cubase.
Windows is not ditching traditional pc's (you can use k/b & mouse and ditch the Metro UI if you like). They're just broadening the OS to be able to be used on tablets as well...

@OoDVOCALISToO Yup, I agree. I'm not a big fan of the Metro UI (you'll be able to turn it off on your desktop or laptop at least). And honestly, I wish Apple or even Android had come up with this first... but the ability to use REAL software on a tablet is absolutely necessary to make the devices worth their cost imo.
Lol, I say that yet I own both an iPad and an Asus Prime. But I only use them for email, browsing online, and watching movies/videos away from my desk. I wish they both did more.
