  • why are there goons fighting in these comments? top comment should be something like, "Damn, they tore this song apart live" lol

  • Dick's left hand was made for the Les Paul fretboard. Not too bad on the vocal either, say what?

  • Love the lead guitar on this song. wonder what theywould have sounded like with CCR

  • Me and myGrandchildren Love this song.

  • There was a time when musicians had talent.

  • All I can say is,.. still love you guys, I miss Carol Anne, I miss the 306 and the Swamp,Fla was good for a minute. I don't miss Cher though :)

  • This is for Rich, who I still miss so much!

  • u all r fuckn retarded im from macon ga my dad was best friends with greg allman in the 60's i met them who cares children fuckn retards my dad saw allman get killed wheb hit by the car

  • @TheDeh1987 we all believe you. go to sleep crazy lady

  • @TheDeh1987 what are you trying to say exactly?

  • this is real talent. not the synthesized crap that is the norm now

  • obviously not the drummer haha just saw him and he was Ivory baby..

  • @june21stgem This is from 1981 and the BLACK drummer, Jaimoe Johnson (he also was an original member) had been fired by the band in 1980. BUT!! Jaimoe was back for a few speical shows in 1986 and rejoined as a full time member in 1989. In 1997 they hired a black bass player and today have two African Americans in the band. The man singing and playing lead guitar here, Dickey Betts, was fired by the band in 2000. Betts was also an original menber from 1969.

  • @june21stgem

They have two drummers. Have had from the beginning.

  • I cant recall now if it was the bassist or drummer but one of em is black, and most importantly who gives a shit ;)

  • I can see why Tokyo Green have been influenced by these guys. I can hear it too. Love this 'full of guitar sound'.

  • Where was this recorded? Sounds great

  • @KINGDINGLEDORK Umm dude their bassist is African American. I hope you aint blind son, I hope you aint blind.

  • @KINGDINGLEDORK Bullshit dude Jai Johanny Johanson the drummer is black, Duane Allman was a session guitarist for some of the most famous black soul singers in the south. These guys were about anything but racism. You're probably just saying that because this is a country tune and they're a southern band. Not everyone in the south is a racist hick you know.

  • @Django5198 not to say that you are wrong (I don't know a lot about the Allman brothers personally) but it's not impossible for someone to be racist even though one spends time with people of different skin colour. For example, let's say that an african american boy grows up in a neighborhood where the dominant "race" is caucasian: Is it then impossible for that child to still feel hatred towards white people for various reasons? Even though he may go to school etc. with only whites?

  • @Ichibaz I do understand exactly what you mean there. But I think The Allman Brothers Band are well known for believing in racial equality. Most members of the band have said that Duane was a really nice guy who was supportive of everyone no matter what colour and that everyone in the band got on really well before Betts starting having drink problems

  • @Django5198

Look at his name. Kingdingledork. Come on man. He's a god damn troll trying to make good old white folks look bad on youtube.

  • best southern band ever!

    The Don

  • a nose made for beak

  • Betts is not just playing riffs. He is actually playing a great discernable melody. The instrumental part of Ramblin man is very impressive, but "Jessica" is off the charts. I didn't see him on anybody's top 30 list. IMO, he should be in the top 5. Ernie Isley, lead guitar on "Who's That Lady?" would be on my top 5 list also.

  • Mamma was a rolling stone (still is)...

  • Dickie Betts rules ! Get him back in Allman Bros !

  • The man,, Dickey Bett's at his best!!! What a great guitarist! He delivers the shivers alright! Wow! I saw the band in Washington, D.C., just before Ramblin man came out on record, and they performed it, and also "Jessica, and I was right then blown away! Chuck Leavell was in the band then! Thanks Dickey for giving me the inspiration to pursue the guitar! Love you!

  • WOWWWW!!!!!!! AMAAAAZINGGGGG!!!!!

  • I thought my builder friend was this song but he's using us!

  • i actually live less than a block from "Highway 41."

i, however, was not born in a Greyhound bus. shame.

THUMBS UP FOR HIPPIES!! (please please also check out my Hippie Poetry Channel!) Much Love :)

  • Dickie Rules!

  • And both bands suffered tragic deaths

  • Both bands had SOLID BLUES based roots. The average listener may not realize that but musicians do. This has more in common with Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and B.B. King than anything. Pure Southern influence! Just ask Curtis Loew!

  • @sonofjesseband they sure did sounds amazing too

  • The Allman Brothers and are neither apples or oranges they are southern PEACHES! Yes, The Allman Brothers toured and played out with The Dead which associated them with psychedelic music, they definitely had more in common with Skynyrd than The Dead. Skynyrd pattered their total approach after the brothers. but, you would have to be a "peach" and not an orange to know that!

  • YES some folks do that LOTS better than others and this is the Proof! My 13 yr old daughter knows who most of these guys are by the sound of their pickin. ! true GREATNESS pass it on. Thanks. Rick

  • That bass player's working a treat!

  • ohhh this song just can on in the shower and I had to get out turn it up and bang on the walls like a retard pretending to be the drummer.

  • I love how robert johnson has influenced so many musicians through out the span of a century

  • bett's vibrato is unreal!!!!

  • @Django5198 lol, check Paul Kossoff, B.B. King, SRV...

  • @Johnnycdc31 they're equally amazing

  • best thats ever been

  • now this is real rock n roll well southern rock kids today hav eno idea wat music is like anymore

  • dickie concerned too much with dickie, should think more of band. dickie want to make dickie big. dickie not care how big band get, only how big dickie get. dickie only want dickie happy, not care if band happy. Naaaaaaa....I'm just screwing with you guys. Ain't Dickie raising pecans down there in the Wiregrass ?

  • one of the best!!!!

  • Half of Dickie Betts playing power comes from his bad-ass southern stache.

  • An excellent performance of a great song. Mr. Betts is just amazing. He was after Duane's dead the man in this great band.

  • Can someone explain their toggle settings on the guitars. It appears, from viewing this video, that they have the toggles on their guitars on bass. How can I get that sort of sound?

  • one m0:00re Time!

  • TO bad Duanes not there to add a slide or two.

  • I wonder what Gregg Allman thinks about his new "Step-son"? That would be something to hear.

  • Bill Murray can shred!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jear?

  • How big could they have gotten with Duane still alive? Awesome talents these guys.

  • This Betts solo at the interim is insane. He kicks ass.

  • All man Brothers, the best guitar emphasis country rock song ever by an American Band. AaahhhSOME.

  • Great driving song!!

  • HAHA IM ONLY 14 AND I LIKE GOOD MUSIC , GIVE ME ATTENTION PLZ, IM SO AWESOME AND MY MOTHER DOESNT LOVE ME, who gives a fuck ??? derek trucks at the age of 12 could play this song already, now that is awesome!

  • How can there be 40 dislikes on this video? That is ridiculous. People who dislike this know nothing about good music. One question about this band--why do they have 2 drummers? Don't they both play basically the same rhythms?

  • walkin wayward on ol dusty road drinkin some jeremiah weed!!

  • i remember back in 1979 saw them and molly hatchet WOW! MY HEAD STILL RINGS ALL THOSE YEARS LATER AND THEY OPENED WITH JESSICA SORRY TOO SAY MOLLY TOOK A BACK SEAT THAT NIGHT

  • man they raped there gutiars

  • Gotta luv this stuff. No young bands doing this long lead break virtuoso stuff anymore. There are some great players out there too but radio won't play 'em. We're forced to listen to utter garbage like Bieber or Rhianna.

  • @Chris51 your comparing bands to pop stars, sorry but your an idiot

  • @stagm3 - so the only way you can have a discussion is with insults? You must be a real riot at parties when someone has a differant opinion than you. I'm talking about what is available for us to listen to on radio fool. Go & try and learn some comprehension. Oops sorry, that word has too many syllables for you. Damn so does syllables. (To self) dear oh dear how does one communicate with a cretin? Crayons perhaps? Or better just to ignore its rantings? You are an ignoranus - a stupid asshole

  • @Chris51 your still an idiot , hehe

  • @stagm3 - and you are still an ignor-anus Bwa-ha-ha-ha

  • @Chris51 lol@ ignor-anus, good one

  • haha, I'm 14 and this is one of my favorite songssssss. Soooooo, that right there proves that this song rocks ! :)

  • what year was this??

  • @MrRexel14 haha we have the same thoughts

  • Damn this man can play a guitar! WOW!

  • Nice fking les paul

  • GP magazine asked Derek Trucks if it got any better than his fame he has found, and he replied, "yes, We were on stage and Dickie started to do a solo on blue sky and I thought to myself, nobody can be that good" Dickie is in top five ever as a pure player, of course GP had the top 100 I think he was 16th, but GP actually had Curt Cobain on the top 100, and not a single skynrd or outlaws guitarist, so that shoots that down....

  • Duane Allman R.I.P!

  • Comment removed

  • Man he can play that damn thing!

  • Now these back wood boys can play that there guitar! Yes!!!!!! Thats good old finger picking, and hot as snot pluckin! Got that cajun flaming stump jumping smack you down kick! Bravo !

  • This song brings back so many high school memories......one of my favorite groups...

  • One of the top 10 guitarists in the World period. Too bad Trucks etc. and Dicky couldn't keep it together on a personal basis whoever was at fault.

  • @37 Dislikes... u guys ve the rights to dislike the video or the quality of the song... but if u dislike the 'Ramblin Man" u guys r on the wrong side of the world...

  • Those Rednecks can Ramble THIS COCK

  • @flymarvin

His neck looks pretty white to me. A word of advice... You really should keep your fantasies to yourself man, that's disgusting.

  • @flymarvin fuck u

  • @boblackey1 I witnessed some Dickey drama first hand last November. Let's just say he can still play and still drink but not both at the same time. Instant a**h***, just add booze. I now understand why he was tossed from ABB.

  • COOL SH$T!!!!

  • i was in detroit when they did filmore east thats y its east u no ?? not filmore west kuze dats n call if orny !!!!! WTF

  • i was 2 months old when they did filmoreast ? NY 1970

  • i was 2 months old when they did filmoreast ? NY

  • I went to high school with Barry Oakley in Park Forest, IL at Rich East High. Actually didn't know it at the time but he played at many of the garage parties we had. I've got a picture of him on my hard drive as a junior. there was so much talent back in the day !

  • Betts is one of the most unmentioned great guitarists of all time...

  • @mrbleedo

How right you are. So I'm very glad you mentioned him :)

  • @mrbleedo Or at least he was 'til you mentioned him!

  • Comment removed

  • @mrbleedo

    Second that!

  • @mrbleedo He was listed as #58 on rolling stone's top 100 guitarists...far too low on the list for my tastes...they gave Kurt Nobrain #14 for fucks sake...

  • @tazereli ...rolling stone is just another rag...its what YOU believe that matters...

  • @mrbleedo what are you talking about? unmentioned?he was on rolling stones list of 100 greatest guitarist of all time at like 58

  • @seifs4 2nd... nevermind..

  • @imsonoobify what are you talking about? he wasnt 2nd

  • Comment removed

  • @mrbleedo OF ALL TIME

  • Now this is music!

  • Duane Allman and Berry Oakley's graves at the Rose Hill in Macon, GA. Welcome to visit them in Macon GA. I-75, exit 164, toward Rose Hill for within 5 minutes.

  • sounds like the days of cocaine. tempo's up a few, Dicky's on fire, he's playing lots of fast little notes and playing more rhythmically rather than walking around all sloppy, dramatic bends early on. 0-60 in no time. love it

  • @thegreyareaband AGREED on the 'coke version' - Ah the 70's...Gotta roll one - later.

  • Great tune..! { the first song→ I ever danced to.. with a young lady..} shhh.

  • Truly Epic

  • Gawd mudder-fukken dayim! These boys are it. :)

  • man! it's orchestra!!

  • They were professionals, and it it shows, something we don't see anymore, artists with class. Regardless of their backstage problems, we won't see live performances like this anytime soon with the this kind of energy.

  • Damn Dickey shreds..

  • @CutiaaJameia291 dickey betts is playing right now. the last thing anybody wants to do is talk to you. shut your legs and learn.

  • thumbs if you check your pants sometimes after farts

  • @phallystrom Huh, there is no way nailing Dickey, but we all keep trying. My Tele (and Strat) kept on screaming in such a high pitch, that I had to buy the Gold Top. With the right PAFs.....I am still at the same point as you were/are. I salute U.

  • 36 people are yankee hipsters.

  • @noblesiner lmao

  • Amazing. Excellent song, and a song/solo played without any imperfections. That's a guitarist to look up to.

  • @theonemodifier he must be a ginger

  • all I can say is WOW!

  • whos the other guitar player?

  • @theonemodifier dangerous Dan Toller

  • @theonemodifier your mother

  • @GNRforever18 why would you say that?my mother died when i was a kid.you must be a punk teenager with no soul.

  • @GNRforever18 the one real modifier was impacted by a helmet less head as it cut off a motorcyle carrying it's load of peaches to market and nodified (intentional misspell) an Allman Brother on to the next trip in this veil of tears joy ride. I'd like to use your head to pop 'yo hero" Axel "the tough guy" in his ROSEY pooder, cuz don't you know where you ARE? "You in MY Jungle baby!! Welcome." Happy motherfuck day to you too. I'm sure thats exactly how yo mama thinks of you. A no good fuck.

  • Gregg Allman recorded one of songs and also played all the guitar tracks. It's a duet with Terri Rice, and is called "In You (I Found Me)". Hope you enjoy it.

  • Holy Mole' Damn!!!!

  • saw them this weekend :) best weekend of my life

  • Allman Brothers are one of the best bands ever. Up there with Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

  • I always thought the Allman Brothers gave Lynyrd a run for their money and the Allman's went the extra mile.

  • @drownriverflood ....both southern, both kicked ass,but very different bands......i'm surprised that a lot of folks think skynyrd were inferior players......they had some fine guitar players and billy powell was excellent......

i always liked the album version of ramblin' man best......the thing i miss here is how the guitars restated the theme while trading solos.......

  • @buckandotis ALLMANS BROTHERS and LYNYRD SKYNRD - It's apples and oranges man. One were psychedelic jazzed out Southern boys - the other was more of a hard rockin' boogie band. BOTH made great music that will live forever...

  • @PRETALIATION no it isn't apples and oranges ,the Allman brothers were much better musicians than lynyrd skynyrd... much much better!

  • @jsilence418 You are right - apples are better than oranges. God forbid one likes both the Allman Brothers (geniuses) and LYNYRD SKYNRD (great).

  • @PRETALIATION You once again are comparing Apples and Oranges ,not a good comparison. Lets see..... Electric light is better than candles for most illumination needs, perhaps excluding Magickal practice, and yes it is o k to like both if you want.

  • @jsilence418 How about we agree that the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND were better players and absolutely unique and that LYNYRD SKYNRD was a good Hard Rock boogie band...

I mean I'm 43 years old and I think we are being silly.

I'm an old man and will just say both bands made some great music that is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.

Peace - Gotta roll one - Later.

  • @PRETALIATION You rock, you are not old though!!!

  • @jsilence418 I dunno if you are older or younger than my 43 years but I feel ancient...

  • @PRETALIATION 43?? you are still a kid, trust me!

  • @PRETALIATION but they interlock because free bird was inspired by the life and accomplishments of duane allman strange how it comes together xD

  • Sweet tone, great solo, so much feeling and expression when He plays

  • dickey betts is one of the all time underrated guitarists. he was cursed with starting his career next to a legend.

  • i like everything about this version

  • LUV IT GOOD TIME IN LIFE WHEN THINGS WHERE GOOD

  • when comes this version?

  • OMG -- Sherman, set the wayback machine --- this is when music was MUSIC! it just isn't done like this anymore--they don't know how!! it's all studio produced crap!

  • OMG -- Sherman, set the wayback machine --- this is when music was MUSIC!

  • they need to play this song genre on mtv.

  • lol isn't one of the band members from dethklok on metalocalypse? =))

  • Stairway to Heaven at 4:46 !!!!

  • <3

  • Thinking about it now, I wonder how Toy Caldwell would have phrased his solos here in Dickeys spot.Thats whats so cool about Guitar, and how each individual can sound completely different, but still Kick major ass jamming out the riffs in this situation .Can you imagine Yngvwie soloing here to Ramblin Man???

  • @ThePhallystorm Do you honestly believe that any fan of The Allman Brothers would desire to hear Yngwie solo to this song? The only comparison between him and Dickey Betts is they are both accomplished guitarists. It starts and ENDS there. Betts, when paried with Duane Allman, played blues, jazz, "early southern rock," and everything on the other spectrum of speed metal. In addition, the Allman Brothers are known for their extended jams. As good as Yngwie is, I'll listen to Betts/Allman.

  • @Bodomchld Brother, " Take a chill pill" I was speculating in a playful manner . I even wrote "can you imagine" The ideology I was trying to bring up was how Toy Caldwell would approach this moderate fast Jam. Then I just threw Yngvwie in there for a laugh. not that I would want Allman Brother Fan listen to Yngvwie as you harshly misconstrued. Music is a Universal language, and it especially affects us guitarists who have an imagination. Although, Guthrie Govan would probably rip this shit up:)

  • @ThePhallystorm Don't waste your time trying to explain to this guy.. Stephen Still puts them all to shame anyhow! LOL

  • First concert I ever went to at the Boston Gaaaaden. It was 1975 and The Allman Brothers Band was rockin.

    This version's a bit fast but ...

  • Allman Bros Band: a legend that will last forever.

  • This is one of the greatest moments in the entire history of history

  • 36 people actually were born in the back seat of a greyhound bus

  • @grayson340910 Thats so obvious!!!!!

  • Dickey Betts is undoubtedly one the greatest and underrated guitarists i'v ever heard!

  • been listening to the allman bros all day and never get sick of it!
