@SomeWhiteDude3 wrong...a) Sarah Palin claims moral high ground. If there is dissonance between her public beliefs and her private actions it is legitimate to point those out. It would not speak to whether her stated beliefs are true or not, but it would certainly call in to question whether she believes them. Is it wrong to point out that Ted Haggard was a gay meth head who spent his days condemning homosexuality, etc.? You can't claim to be moral and then do the things you claim are immoral.
@RickZiis If you do, then by your own definition, you are immoral. b) if the claim was the intrinsic value of Sarah Palin's beliefs or statements on morality are not true because she is immoral then that would be the ad hominen, "tu quoque" or "you too" fallacy. that's not what is at issue here. the issue here is..are you a moral authority when you behave in a way that you claim is immoral..and being a moral authority goes beyond simply holding the "right" beliefs..it also means living by them
@rbrjb1959 Yes it is. She refuted a different argument than the one that was originally presented. Besides, this is not supposed to be the most awesome, perfect example of straw man. It is a really simplified version that I did for my class. Thank you.
This is direct quote right? She's great at using fallacies, so is Obama by the way. It really scares me that people like her, in numbers have the opportunity to make big decisions that effect not only Americans but people all around the world and yet she has no experience in foreign affairs or economics etc.
I'm Australian and although democracy isn't perfect I pray that our politicians will never become as ignorant and the campaigning based so much on face value over experience and policy.
