@TheNamesNicole1012 really? what troop are you? I'm from district 8 troop 1466. And it was at the critics choice showcase. I think it was act 3. Not many people stayed for act 3. They all went to that stupid dance ya know? :P lol
@xxmyscarsxx District 9 Troupe 7235. And yeah, I watched the entire showcase. Hm, I must've taken a phone call or went to the restroom or something because I just don't remember it. And yeah, my entire troupe went to it other than me, haha.
@TheNamesNicole1012 Bro thats so cool! LOL and yeah I regret going to the dance. I thought it would be fun and everything, but it was horrible. absolutely horrible. I skipped out after act 3 and i regret.
But bro thats so cool! And the girl who sang it was from our ditrict, too. I even saw her at districts. She was amazing and she was amazing at states too. The monologues were good too. I liked the one were the lady shot her husband! That was so funny.
@xxmyscarsxx Really? I think everyone I know who went liked it, haha. And yeah, the monologues were great. And YES! I loved that one! Haha. I also liked the guy who did the monologues in the first act. He did one about a conversation with his mom and the other was about getting fired. He was great. He was in my district as well and was actually in the showcase at districts.
@xxmyscarsxx Seriously! And I must say, my favorite part is that for the first time in my life, I could walk around and sing showtunes and people didn't look at me weird! In fact, most of them started singing with me! Haha
@TheNamesNicole1012 OMG I KNOWWW!! Like Ok for example: These kids were in a circle, right? And one of them was playing guitar, and all of them were singing "forget you" by ceelo green! IT WAS AWESOME! And I saw this guy in drag, and a bunch of other stuff. drama people are just so... dramatic ya know? :)
This is a very beautiful song. I first became aware of this song when I read a romance novel and I had to hear the song. It was so pretty. So is this Glenn Close or Elaine Paige?
I think Glenn's voice is perfect for this song. She SOUNDS like she's from another time, and she infuses her voice with such hope it's heartbreaking. I've never been as invested in the song when people just belt it out and sing pretty.
the real story is that Patti Lupone was supposed to get this role but she had just played Evita in another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and he didn't want to be that director that uses the same actors over and over. Of course she BLEW UP at him for not getting the role and their friendship suffered. Glenn eventually got it. I'm sure she was amazing but....that song is meant for a belter...not someone who talks on the pitch. I wish could have heard Patti do it.
@caroline8705 She did the World Premiere in London. Glenn followed after in LA. The the fight was on as to who would play the part on Broadway, even tho Patti's contract stated it would be her. Glenn obviously got the job.
I would agree that Andrew Lloyd Webber is the best musical theater composer named Andrew Lloyd Webber; but he cannot hold a candle to the genius of Sondheim, or Lerner and Loewe, or Rodgers and Hammerstein... not to mention, Webber only writes music, and usually has one "pretty" song per show that he uses (Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Memory, this song, Love Chagnes Everything...). He writes the music first then forces his lyricists to fit his tunes... and that is where his work fails, IMO.
@wsp67326 And to add to that, it seems like almost all his shows are about the spectacle over the show.
I've enjoyed most of the ALW shows I've seen, but the only ones I would actually call "good" would be Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita- and I have a feeling that the fact both of them were concept albums first might have something to do with that.

I've saw Glenn Close in Sunset in LA when it first came out and she and the whole show was magnificent. Later, I saw Elaine Paige on her first night at the Adelphi in London with Andrew presenting her a huge bouquet of flowers and she was great. Later, I saw Petula Clark sing this role in Atlanta and she was fine as well. But Glenn is the best!
Glenn Close is so well known for her straight acting roles in movies that I sometimes forget she has an amazing musical theatre singing voice. I love ths song, one of ALWs best.
Glenn Close has such a stage presence, her body language and poise are outstanding! Others may sing better, but very few can match her on stage in my opinion.
As a creatre of the the theatre I love Elaine, Patti and Glenn but have ANY of you heard the Dame Shirley Bassey version. To me she makes the song her own. I'd love to see her play that role. She'd be great.
I wish I could sing this song like Glenn Close. she sings so beautifully being a Soprano it does not sound right to me. thou my teacher says I sing it well in spite of the fact I am a soprano. I have to sing the song a Half a Tone Highter because the song it written for a Messo-soprano and that's what Glenn Close is and so is Patti LuPone and Barbra Streisand. I just love Messo-soprano voices they are so beautiful
Well, Veronica, you do know that the score was originally written at a higher tone was only lowered once Glenn Close was cast in the LA production? So, you're technically singing this song as originally intended...
whos singing?
