Yeah, its a difficult way to do animation. Not very many people do stop-motion animation today. That's what I heard according to some extra commentary on Corpse Bride's DVD on how stop-motion animation was done. Tim Burton likes stop-motion and, I think, wants to keep it around, so that's why he does it.

He and the other animators are really patient and talented to do stop-motion animation. I would get really fed up with all the tiny motions on the characters I had to do.

@meowth900 Coraline was written and directed by Henry Selick, who also directed James and the Giant Peach and The Nightmare before Christmas. All of the movies use stop motion as well (although Coraline was aided with computer animation to help with the tedious process that is stop motion animation). That's possibly why you mixed them up.
