Did he just say lenders can't sell off the whole [loan] and then forget about it? Can you say FANNIE MAE!?? The government is the biggest guarantor and driver for inflating the housing bubble.
I especially enjoyed watching Rachel trying to zing him on how he was wrong about his advice a year earlier about the credit markets are should be watched as they currently that day were looking optimistic. Now, who's the fool as we are now downgraded whereas it has turned out he was RIGHT!!!
this guy is a filthy Keynesian!! jk but still common. Krugman didn't predict the crisis while Austrian economists such as Mises predicted the depression.
@tommurphy67 and yes, krugman supports policies that caused the housing bubble and many other economic problems that the US is facing...low interest rates, gov't intervention, all things that are the root cause and will prolong our problems
What's sad about this is that neither of these people knows what the heck they're talking about. Search "Keynesian Economics vs. Austrian Economics" here on you tube and you'll see what I'm talking about. Krugman is a Keynsian. In the video I suggest you see how the Austrian economics guys could see the bubbles coming, and correctly predict the downturns in the economy where as the Keynsian economists saw nothing but milk and honey.
@HumbleWillis yup...tell that to the idiot with the youtube name "schittreport"....those guys are loons and praise krugman like he's a god even though he's a fuckin gov't crackpot
Krugman is a douchebag...he has a vacant drug-induced empty look when he's not talking, and he starts mumbling like a retarded mofo when he gets fired up to talk. Clearly, sniffing some coke occurred in his past life, typical for most "progressive" dumbocrats of this era.
I just dropped by to see how everything is going, and all is see is petty comments from people who don't understand how our culture is spiraling downward. We're becoming a third world country as far as human relations are concerned. It's too bad you folks don't have any way to see what civil discourse used to be like. @MyAccount4TrollingU Quit talking like a child, you retarded motherfucker. Go spew your hateful ranting somewhere else - better yet, go suck some cock, that'll keep your fucking mouth shut.
Oh, my little smarmy Rachel!...valiantly holding down the rear in her ratings category. She should just stick to selling herself on some alternative radio station as a talking head catering to a small segment of society...thinking further, I think she's headed there anyway, her shelf life is coming up for a stock rotation....out.
Threatened by an intelligent female - if you want to hide your insecurity a valid argument is needed.More of us are paying attention to reality than you would like to believe -- sorry, but thought you should know .....
Your right of course.. but Krugman is also the author of virtually every commonly used accounting textbook in America. (My wife just graduated w a Bachelor's in Accounting from a top ranked school)
Maybe you're starting to see why America is in so much trouble. :(
@jrwel14 Typical hollow uneducated response of a liberal. Do you even understand that Maddow is a opinion show and shouldnt be used as real news. Maddow failed at Air America its just a matter of time that she will disappear from cable. You libs are so amazingly stupid.
@mmac382 It's the conservative's FAKENEWS FOX that makes things up. Rachel shows videos and news clippings to prove her points. She also shows when she made a mistake. There are dozens of vids on YT showing Fox'es made up news and dozens of comments of people refering to Fox as I have. FAKENEWS, FAUXNEWS.
@jrwel14 YT? Really? YT stands for Young Turd! And Cenk isnt even young. You really believe his propaganda? Thats hilarious! Who cares about FOX. Read a book sometime, a newpaper .. anything but hatefull left wing spin merchants. Stop being such a rube. Oh and go get a job!
@mmac382 YT stands for Youtube. but, it YOUR case,BOOBTUBE. this "get a job" you conservatives are so ignorant. no wonder Truman said, If, you want to live like a republican, vote demorcratic"
@jrwel14 You dont even understand what your talking about. The phrase goes "Live like a Democrat, vote like a Republican" Dems are the party of the rich. Dems are the party of hate. Republicans are the party of freedom.
@mmac382 You are really onebought and paid for Conservative BOOB. this party of rich. then, why is it thatt GOP wants to lower the rich taxes and the dems do not. look up what I said about Truman. The Dems have a better record with unemployment, debt, stock market and the economy!
@jrwel14 Actually the Reps just want to lower taxes for everybody. They dont consider a person less of an American just because they are successfull. How in the world can you say the Dems have a better record of debt? Its the highest in history since Obama took office. Can you say $15 Trillion? Bush matched Clintons unemployement. Our econmy has always grown. So much so that, If Obama hadnt spent so much we wouldnt even have a deficit at this time. Stocks are not a function of Government actions
@mmac382 need to send you that prsidential debt link. also, treasuryDirect org shows it by the seciond. The Dems do have a better record. reagan with his cuttibg taxes raised the debt ceiling 17 times. Bush with his tax cuts, raised it 9. That's what happens when politicians cut taxes. that, and borrow.
@jrwel14 Who cares about Bush? He's not president. Obama tripled our deficit in the first 2 years of his presidency. The DEBT was approx $11 tri when took office and it now is $15tril. Taxes have little effect on the economy. If you taxed everyone making over $200k , 100% it still wouldnt pay for Obamas Health Care package. Its spending that puts us into debt. It doesnt matter who is president dipshit, the spending has to stop. Krugman and Maddow just wants to keep the insanity going.
@mmac382 Doubt that. This country did better in the 1950s when taxes were at 91% The last time the GOP had a balanced budget 1956. The CBO has said that the extending the Bush's tax cuts were a mistake. Even Cavuto on Fox said it would have been more revenue than the payroll tax cut. The GOP Congressman said their usual, "Well, you see it's like this."
@jrwel14 Of course you doubt that. You ignore reality and are a partisan hack.
Do the maths. All the income of all "the rich" does not pay for the monstrous budget of the American federal government. You may believe that in the 1950s it was possible and awesome (you obviously did not live in that period, nor do you understand the mechanics of tax evasion). Now even 100% won't cover it (even if tax evasion did not exist).
It is simply impossible to tax your way out of this.
@sheepOG Still Conservative's ignorance. First was born in the 1950s. Second, the tax our way? Sounds like if Clinton,s tax rates of 39% won't work. Neither would 65%. then why even have taxes. We got into this mess because of Bush's 2 WARS AND CUTTING TAXES TWICE. Why do you conservatives think he borrowed from China. Cause it felt good?
@jrwel14 I'm not a conservative (I'm an anarchist), but you sure as hell are a partisan hack. And being born in the 1950s adds no validity to your argument. At best you would be 10 at the end of the decade... and knowing I wasn't exactly a genius at that age, you might understand my argument.
Any tax rate over 50% is futile. But like I said, do the maths. Even if you were to seize all assets of "the rich", the state would still go bankrupt very quickly with this budget.
@sheepOG Hence they print (causes inflation) and loan money.
Anyway, like you stated: "Why even have taxes?"
All of it is theft, all of it is immoral, all of it makes the state into an entity that is above the law (it can take property by force) and thus perverts all of the law.
@sheepOG How far? Down to 1920s levels? Paul Ryan wants to cut taxes down those those levels. Also, how can you rebuild roads and such without the revenue?
@jrwel14 Well, as you already know, I want to cut ALL spending.
How do they rebuild roads now? With (stolen) wealth. Thus, selling all the roads would be a good solution. Private roads tend to be in better condition than public roads.
Voluntary taxation is also a possible solution, as is a voluntary collective purchase of roads by citizens.
I also wouldn't call current taxes a source of revenue, because its definition implies the creation of wealth, which the state cannot do. It's theft.
@jrwel14 If you don't believe in voluntary associations of individuals, then you are against freedom. And I'm lost? You're the delusional statist who thinks that taking things by force is moral, who thinks stealing is good. You're the delusional person who thinks taxing more and spending more will save the economy, instead of destroy more wealth. You're the delusional person who thinks FREEDOM = SLAVERY.
If you don't voluntarily pay taxes, why would you call for more taxes?
@jrwel14 I guess you feel the state should be able to break these laws when it wants to. "If the state wants to kill, steal and enslave, then it should be allowed to!" What kind of nonsense is that? I'm the one actually proposing we all obey the laws, including the state.
I also guess you have never read anything about natural law or anarchism.
@sheepOG am a firm believer in laws and regulations. Regulations are an attempt to keep businesses honest. And, the teeth for authorities when they are not. Don't feel that a farmer should let the foxes regulate themselves. And, anarchy? It's when there are no laws.
Government Regulation is when the Government Regulates business and money. Non Regulation is when People and business regulate their own money. People like you say we need more and more regulation, yet the Finical Sector is one of the most regulated sector. Personally I think the government shoudl regulate 100% of your life to see how much you like regulation.
@Budguy68 People like you remind me of the farmer that lost all his chickens. When, asked what happened. He said,"Don't know! The foxes said they would regulate themselves."
What the fuck does that have to do with Bank Regulation and such? Are you saying that People are too evil to have too much freedom? That we must use other people to Regulate people because they are naturaly too evil? Here's the thing, We have a Lot of Regulation already. It takes a Lawyer to make heads or tails or these regulations. The regulation we have benefits these banks and large corporations more. Yet people like you want more of it
You can punish them if they commit fraud or thief. But did you know that it was the Federal Government who told BP to drill at 5000 feet when they were originally going to drill at 500 feet? So in essence it was government regulation that contributed to the cause... And who regulates the government when they start illegal wars or when they do evil things? You see, because of regulation the regulators have so much power and control that not many can stop them.
By the way.. did you notice we "lost" the oil spill? Or know that Obama's EPA PREVENTED BP from putting dams around the spill & igniting it to prevent it from spreading?
And how HE blocked / intentionally delayed the clean up?
w w w-DOT-examiner-DOT-com/scotus-in-washington-dc/obama-blocked-clean-up-of-bp-oil-spill-by-america-s-allies-failed-to-issue-timely-jones-act-waiver
It was the GOP that fought to not press any legal issues against BP. So, who cares who was in control? Only a Conservative who wants to put the blame on others. Their kids are taught that when they learn how to walk."Mommy, Billy did it!"
So it's not the justice dept (Eric Holder) whose responsible for Federal Prosecution. It's not the President. It's not the Congress. It's not the Senate. It's not Clinton Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick who was appointed2 board of BP.
It's GOP because.. ?
(Gorelick History: Gorelick's Wall; VP Fannie Mae (resigned w pay & bonuses over $10 Billion accounting "irregularity"); Duke Lacrosse case attorney; 9/11 Commission cover-up; appointed to board of BP; short list FBI chief)
No. He's literally arguing that if we DON'T regulate banks, they'll make bad loans & give all their money away because they're.. um "greedy"
A predator is someone who lives in a house they can't afford & didn't pay for, who gets to take equity loans against equity they never built - then gets to keep all the stuff they bought when they walk away from their mortgage
In jrwel world, this person is a "victim' & the gov who invented securitization & mortage backed securities is a hero.
And when the laws REQUIRE foxes eat chickens instead of preventing it?
"Securitization"-invented by US Dept of Housing & Urban Development (Feb 1970)
tinyurl -DOT - com/yhqnzco
WSJ - "2/3 of ALL bad mortgages bought by govt agencies or required by government regulations"
tinyurl -DOT - com/ylcxb4n
NYT 9/29/99 "Under increasing pressure by Clinton Admin.. Dept Housing Urban Dev propose by 2K1, 50% Fannie/Fred portfolio=loans 2 low-mod-income borrowers"
Obama spent $787 Billion (actually $862 Billion - it went over budget) to do just that.. Rebuild roads & bridges for "shovel ready jobs". Then he admitted the following..
CBSNews Obama admits: "No Such Thing as Shovel-Ready Projects"
tinyurl - DOT - com/2bgy4hm
Now he's back again in 2011 asking for MORE MONEY to fix them AGAIN - admitting none of them were fixed in 08 & can't explain why there's no jobs
For decades the GOP was for infrastructure. Look at Eisenhower with the Federal Highway act in 1956. The LAST time the GOP had a balanced budget and with 91% tax rates. Now, with Obama being a Democrat. The GOP says NO way. I bet they maintain their homes and cars, though.
@jrwel14 Actually the budget was balanced durng the Clinton admin when the Reps controlled congress. Like I said the Pres cant spend without Congressional approval. Of course raising taxes increases revenue in the short term, but lowering taxes increases revenue in the long. JFK, Reagan and GW all proved this to be a fact. Do the math. Even with a 91% tax rate, there arent enough millionaires to pay for Obamas HC Bill
@mmac382 Still look at who was the Democrat and blame them. Doesn't matter that even when Congress was controlled by the GOP. It's still the Dems fault. You are a true Conservative.Reagan and Bush? they proved that when you cut taxes. You have to raise the debt ceiling MORE. Reagan 17 times and Bush 9. also, Reagan raised taxes 9 times. Bush borrowed from China. YOU DO THE MATH.
Partisan Democrat Robert Byrd, Senator of WV on Obama's Czars:
Feb. 25, 2009
"..these White House staffers are not accountable for their actions to the Congress, to cabinet officials, or to virtually anyone but the president. These czars are being paid without congressional authorization, without having testified before any legislative committee, without having been confirmed by anyone, and are functioning like a fourth (illegal) arm of government.
poor Rachel....I wouldn't say she isn't bright, but her personality is so unpleasant as to make her unwatchable on TV...her speech rhythms are offensive...ouch...it's like being scolded by a fascist schooma'rm...
@sportsmediaamerica Poor you . Bet you watch Fakenews fox that has to make up their stories. Pitiful! Doubt if you know wha fascism really is. Most Conservatives don't these days.
@jrwel14 No really I just think Rachel has a personality disorder. I can't stand watching or listening to her...And I don't watch FOX except for football. Get hip: All media is just about ratings and their paychecks. They don't care about you.
SLAVES OF PIG ISLAND [These pigs are our slaves, our niggers. We castrate them. They are ours to do with as we please, as current fashion fashions.] Praise the syndicators & corporators who find the will & the need to imprison, to poison, to murder, to confound the hapless. The flashpoint is approaching when citizens return insult for insult.
Any body remember Enron? If not I will jolt your memory. Krugman is one of the guys at the top that pile who had his hands in the mix. Says a lot IMHO. He is a very smart man but a snake at the same time. That is why is so dangerous. He stands to make a lot of money betting on the failure of the markets.
In a liquidity trap, the window story does not apply as well, because the money used to repair the window actually would not be used to pay for something else, it would be sat on, so spending on a broken window (or government stimulus) actually is a more efficient use of capital than the private use when we are in a liquidity trap. Also, if the government stimulus is used to invest in infrastructure that can facilitate future growth, then that spending is more than just stimulus.
@sheepOG Broken Window has not been discredited, but Krugman's interpretation had. Basait's original interpretation is still argued by the other side, since it is a parable, it is just interpreted differently
Peter Schiff has better books and is WAYY smarter than Krugman. Krugman won't even debate Schiff because he knows how badly his ass will be handed to him. Take a look for yourself...
Good riddance to the braying jackass Christ' Hitchens who supported the sanctions and the war of pelf against Iraq. [Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: "We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?"; Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price--we think the price is worth it." — "60 Minutes" (5/12/96)]
Actually, Paul Krugman was indeed an advocate of a housing bubble... or at least the actions that lead to a housing bubble.
"“During phases of weak growth there are always those who say that lower interest rates will not help. They overlook the fact that low interest rates act through several channels. For instance, more housing is built, which expands the building sector. You must ask the opposite question: why in the world shouldn’t you lower interest rates?” - From a German interview 2001
@baggytheo As to your comment about "Actually, Paul Krugman was indeed an advocate of a housing bubble." I read your quote and even without referencing it I refute it just by pointing out that saying lowering interest rates in a weak growth period is a good idea, in no way means that someone supports bubbles. Circumstances change and that was 2001. Medication can save your life or kill you if you take to much. Just because he advocates a tool doesn't mean he approves of all its uses.
@thesparitan Did you even read the link. He specifically supported lowering interest rates to cause a bubble in housing. He thought it would be great solution to the recession caused by the end of the dot com bubble. He also said he didn't think that bubbles had to be followed by recessions.
I agree that medication can kill you if you take too much, and Krugman was telling us to take even more than the amount that almost killed us! And now that we're almost dead he wants us to have even more!
@edwinorc you clearly see what you want to see and I see no need in debating you because of that. If you don't accept reality than we have nothing to talk about.
Eh, low interest rates do not equal bad loans. Yes low interest rates contribute somewhat to a housing bubble, but the number of high-risk loans being put out was the fault of bankers' risk analysis, not low interest rates, that really inflated the bubble and caused the banks to crash etc. etc.
Wow, like Maddow is what, 5 yrs old? "How dew we fiss it mista pwofessa?" Krugman's answer: overhaul financial policy sounds sensible! Hmmm, de ja vu? Sounds like step 1, "Elect Ron Paul!!" But for that you would need to have paid attention to what's going on as opposed to fear mongering Dems vs.Repubs (same thing to the wise). Wake up people! Occupy your own brain! R3VOLUTION 2012
I was going to comment on the way your point held a lack of substance behind it, but then realised that your expertise on the topic was beyond rebuttal.
@edwinorc Anyone that thinks an article title "Krugman did cause the housing bubble" should be taken seriously, is someone willing to believe anything. You obviously don't care what the facts are if you are willing to even read an article with such a ignorant title.
@theonepartyman7 the empirics behind RE are pretty far from conclusive, and 'why the stimulus failed' can be answered far easier by looking at where the money went than assuming ricardian equivalence. In fact RE is more of an exercise in rational expectations logic than an empirical tool... and I never said he was a Keynesian; are there even strictly keynesians anymore?
@MalleusDeorumCeltus lol answer is this: "Krugman's Orwellian Economics, which ties perpetual growth to exponentially growing debt" - that's just a nonsensical statement. as for economics pretending it's physics, I totally agree
@MalleusDeorumCeltus No I haven't taken a mathematical physics class, which is why I wouldn't make clueless comments about mathematical physics, because that would make me an idiot. PS I'll take your answer to mean that no, you have not ever taken any economics.
@MalleusDeorumCeltus what are you even talking about? Keynesian countercyclical fiscal stabilization? have you even taken an economics class? Even blinder are those that think they see.
@TennisAnnalyst "There is always an easy solution to every human problem -- neat, plausible and wrong." (Menken). I would suggest that you have simplified falsely the conservative side. FYI Most conservatives understand that 100 percent of savings aren't always reinvested.
Wow. Krugman is so incredibly vague. "we made some serious mistakes" WHAT MISTAKES?! His solution? "we need more regulations". No explanation of how the bubbles formed. No specifics. That was a terrible waste of time.
Paul is a very smart man, he won the Nobel Prize, he is influence by Keynes, and believes that politics is key in implementing Keynes economic policy. Paul is liberal, like all liberals, because he believes freedom and equality for all Americans.
@defensafinancial :D We're all influenced by Keynes. Keynes was too big a figure to not be influenced by him... even if it's just by cultural osmosis.
Anyways, about Paul: I was under the impression that he doesn't consider himself a post-keynesian, but that he sees himself somewhere between NK and PK (leaning towards PK). Am I wrong? Or maybe his self-identification has changed over time. idk
No he is definitely a PK, the problem is that he tends to avoid using such labels, for the followers of Friedman and PK, means you are quasi-socialistic minded or liberal. The reality is that PK's care more about a capitalist economy then the followers of Friedman, because PK's seek long-term employment, and the overall soundness of the economy, Friedman is what got us in this recession. The idea of monetary expansion by cutting rates.
@TennisAnnalyst LMAO I read that quote before, I loved it. He was talking about the Efficient market hypothesis in that quote I believe, It made me laugh so hard when I read it because it so true. Yeah I suppose that some people care less about being factual and correct and more about having an ideology that claims to have it all figured out.
@TennisAnnalyst You're right and why I try and reason with these people is a mystery to me sometimes. There are alot of libertarian and right wingers that have some interesting opinions and are well informed but they are rare. I try never to be ideological because I don't want to become like them which is why I try to listen to me honestly. I think you have it right, they are geniuses because they read atlas shrugged once and if you disagree you are obviously pond scum. lol
@OffTheGlass87 Wow another one. Do you people even had an original idea in your heads? You call someone clearly more intelligent than you a idiot. I disagree with Milton Friedman but I don't think he was a moron, he was many bad things but a moron is not one of them. Sarah Palin is a moron, and many democratic politicians are morons but Paul Krugman is not a moron. This just shows how ideological and irrational you are to call that.
@AroundSun ...says a twice-Nobel prize winner. Because you are, aren't you? I'm sure you are not (at most) a community college graduate spoon-fed bullshit 24/7 by the Murdoch propaganda machine, playing the wise-ass economist on youtube. That'd be just too sad.
@Haarez1 Hey dickhead, Obama received the same prize for 'peace' before even becoming president. He then continued two wars and started another one! But, if we are going to go on the nobel prize route, let me remind you that Murray Rothbard, Freidrich Hayek, Milton Friedman all won the same prize and they all say "KRUGMAN IS WRONG". He is just a shill for the democrat party and the New York Times. Telling people what the government wants them to hear. He said 'we didn't spend enough' LMAO!
@Haarez1 No, not enough education for you, THAT is very sad. I can always tell a misinformed, misguided, well intended, poor, socialist, liberal democrat when I hear one. Goofballs like yourself go off about Fox News and Hannity and conservative radio and the Koch brothers because it is all you can think of. You are too morally shot and intellectually bankrupt to even talk about any issues, you can only attack with ad homonyms and try to link the messenger with stereotypical nonsense. Moron
@Haarez1 Thanks for proving my point that you can only attack character and have no substance...
Wow, you corrected a typo! You're a genius! Liberals are absolutely brain dead and cant do anything without conservatives....You fail at life...Peace!!
BTW I don't care about Glenn Beck lol, but as usual all you fools can do is say FOXNEWS, or KOCH BROTHERS, or BILL OREILLY, HANNITY..LMAO fucking clowns you are..go read a shit article by that pedophile Krugman HAHAHAHA
@ToddGillies well, lets see...Suppliers of goods and services, create wealth. They are who PRODUCE things. The government produces nothing. They can only take from some and give to others distorting the process...So, you can't fund even one socialist plan without producers and a capitalist free market creating wealth and income.

@mmac382 You are really onebought and paid for Conservative BOOB. this party of rich. then, why is it thatt GOP wants to lower the rich taxes and the dems do not. look up what I said about Truman. The Dems have a better record with unemployment, debt, stock market and the economy!
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 Actually the Reps just want to lower taxes for everybody. They dont consider a person less of an American just because they are successfull. How in the world can you say the Dems have a better record of debt? Its the highest in history since Obama took office. Can you say $15 Trillion? Bush matched Clintons unemployement. Our econmy has always grown. So much so that, If Obama hadnt spent so much we wouldnt even have a deficit at this time. Stocks are not a function of Government actions
mmac382 1 month ago
@mmac382 need to send you that prsidential debt link. also, treasuryDirect org shows it by the seciond. The Dems do have a better record. reagan with his cuttibg taxes raised the debt ceiling 17 times. Bush with his tax cuts, raised it 9. That's what happens when politicians cut taxes. that, and borrow.
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 Who cares about Bush? He's not president. Obama tripled our deficit in the first 2 years of his presidency. The DEBT was approx $11 tri when took office and it now is $15tril. Taxes have little effect on the economy. If you taxed everyone making over $200k , 100% it still wouldnt pay for Obamas Health Care package. Its spending that puts us into debt. It doesnt matter who is president dipshit, the spending has to stop. Krugman and Maddow just wants to keep the insanity going.
mmac382 1 month ago
@mmac382 Doubt that. This country did better in the 1950s when taxes were at 91% The last time the GOP had a balanced budget 1956. The CBO has said that the extending the Bush's tax cuts were a mistake. Even Cavuto on Fox said it would have been more revenue than the payroll tax cut. The GOP Congressman said their usual, "Well, you see it's like this."
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 Of course you doubt that. You ignore reality and are a partisan hack.
Do the maths. All the income of all "the rich" does not pay for the monstrous budget of the American federal government. You may believe that in the 1950s it was possible and awesome (you obviously did not live in that period, nor do you understand the mechanics of tax evasion). Now even 100% won't cover it (even if tax evasion did not exist).
It is simply impossible to tax your way out of this.
sheepOG 1 month ago
@sheepOG Still Conservative's ignorance. First was born in the 1950s. Second, the tax our way? Sounds like if Clinton,s tax rates of 39% won't work. Neither would 65%. then why even have taxes. We got into this mess because of Bush's 2 WARS AND CUTTING TAXES TWICE. Why do you conservatives think he borrowed from China. Cause it felt good?
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 I'm not a conservative (I'm an anarchist), but you sure as hell are a partisan hack. And being born in the 1950s adds no validity to your argument. At best you would be 10 at the end of the decade... and knowing I wasn't exactly a genius at that age, you might understand my argument.
Any tax rate over 50% is futile. But like I said, do the maths. Even if you were to seize all assets of "the rich", the state would still go bankrupt very quickly with this budget.
sheepOG 1 month ago
@sheepOG Hence they print (causes inflation) and loan money.
Anyway, like you stated: "Why even have taxes?"
All of it is theft, all of it is immoral, all of it makes the state into an entity that is above the law (it can take property by force) and thus perverts all of the law.
sheepOG 1 month ago
@sheepOG Then, you raise taxes and cut spending. a concept that Conservatives can't understand. And, you either!
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 Why would you need to raise taxes if you cut spending? The only thing that needs to happen is cutting the spending.
sheepOG 1 month ago
@sheepOG How far? Down to 1920s levels? Paul Ryan wants to cut taxes down those those levels. Also, how can you rebuild roads and such without the revenue?
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 Well, as you already know, I want to cut ALL spending.
How do they rebuild roads now? With (stolen) wealth. Thus, selling all the roads would be a good solution. Private roads tend to be in better condition than public roads.
Voluntary taxation is also a possible solution, as is a voluntary collective purchase of roads by citizens.
I also wouldn't call current taxes a source of revenue, because its definition implies the creation of wealth, which the state cannot do. It's theft.
sheepOG 1 month ago
@sheepOG You are one lost dude. Voluntary taxation? As, in a big fat ZERO? So are your ideals.
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 If you don't believe in voluntary associations of individuals, then you are against freedom. And I'm lost? You're the delusional statist who thinks that taking things by force is moral, who thinks stealing is good. You're the delusional person who thinks taxing more and spending more will save the economy, instead of destroy more wealth. You're the delusional person who thinks FREEDOM = SLAVERY.
If you don't voluntarily pay taxes, why would you call for more taxes?
sheepOG 1 month ago
@sheepOG Guess you feel that obeying laws should be voluntary. feeding ones kids and such.
jrwel14 1 month ago
@jrwel14 I guess you feel the state should be able to break these laws when it wants to. "If the state wants to kill, steal and enslave, then it should be allowed to!" What kind of nonsense is that? I'm the one actually proposing we all obey the laws, including the state.
I also guess you have never read anything about natural law or anarchism.
sheepOG 1 month ago
@sheepOG am a firm believer in laws and regulations. Regulations are an attempt to keep businesses honest. And, the teeth for authorities when they are not. Don't feel that a farmer should let the foxes regulate themselves. And, anarchy? It's when there are no laws.

@jrwel14 Actually the budget was balanced durng the Clinton admin when the Reps controlled congress. Like I said the Pres cant spend without Congressional approval. Krugman still propagates the broken window fallacy, more than 150 years after it has been thoroughly discredited. Yes, that makes him stupid.
sheepOG 1 month ago 25
In a liquidity trap, the window story does not apply as well, because the money used to repair the window actually would not be used to pay for something else, it would be sat on, so spending on a broken window (or government stimulus) actually is a more efficient use of capital than the private use when we are in a liquidity trap. Also, if the government stimulus is used to invest in infrastructure that can facilitate future growth, then that spending is more than just stimulus.

You must ask the opposite question: why in the world shouldn’t you lower interest rates?” - From a German interview 2001
baggytheo 2 months ago
@baggytheo As to your comment about "Actually, Paul Krugman was indeed an advocate of a housing bubble." I read your quote and even without referencing it I refute it just by pointing out that saying lowering interest rates in a weak growth period is a good idea, in no way means that someone supports bubbles. Circumstances change and that was 2001. Medication can save your life or kill you if you take to much. Just because he advocates a tool doesn't mean he approves of all its uses.
thesparitan 2 months ago
@thesparitan Did you even read the link. He specifically supported lowering interest rates to cause a bubble in housing. He thought it would be great solution to the recession caused by the end of the dot com bubble. He also said he didn't think that bubbles had to be followed by recessions.
I agree that medication can kill you if you take too much, and Krugman was telling us to take even more than the amount that almost killed us! And now that we're almost dead he wants us to have even more!

Eh, low interest rates do not equal bad loans. Yes low interest rates contribute somewhat to a housing bubble, but the number of high-risk loans being put out was the fault of bankers' risk analysis, not low interest rates, that really inflated the bubble and caused the banks to crash etc. etc.

I try never to be ideological because I don't want to become like them which is why I try to listen to me honestly. I think you have it right, they are geniuses because they read atlas shrugged once and if you disagree you are obviously pond scum. lol

Krugman is an idiot. Seriously, he is a whack job and has an unconstrained vision of man, and thats why his wrong.
OffTheGlass87 2 months ago
@OffTheGlass87 Wow another one. Do you people even had an original idea in your heads? You call someone clearly more intelligent than you a idiot. I disagree with Milton Friedman but I don't think he was a moron, he was many bad things but a moron is not one of them. Sarah Palin is a moron, and many democratic politicians are morons but Paul Krugman is not a moron. This just shows how ideological and irrational you are to call that.

Paul Krugman is a joke.

Yeaaa...Paul Krugman giving a dose of reality LMAO. Keynesian policies are as old and as failed as cuba and the soviet union. Give me a break

Haarez1 3 months ago
@Haarez1 Hey dickhead, Obama received the same prize for 'peace' before even becoming president. He then continued two wars and started another one! But, if we are going to go on the nobel prize route, let me remind you that Murray Rothbard, Freidrich Hayek, Milton Friedman all won the same prize and they all say "KRUGMAN IS WRONG". He is just a shill for the democrat party and the New York Times. Telling people what the government wants them to hear. He said 'we didn't spend enough' LMAO!
AroundSun 3 months ago
@AroundSun Yep, too much Hannity for you. Very sad.
Haarez1 3 months ago
@Haarez1 No, not enough education for you, THAT is very sad. I can always tell a misinformed, misguided, well intended, poor, socialist, liberal democrat when I hear one. Goofballs like yourself go off about Fox News and Hannity and conservative radio and the Koch brothers because it is all you can think of. You are too morally shot and intellectually bankrupt to even talk about any issues, you can only attack with ad homonyms and try to link the messenger with stereotypical nonsense. Moron
AroundSun 3 months ago
@AroundSun Classic. And, FYI, it's "ad hominem", not "ad homonyms". It's a pity Glenn Beck doesn't use his famed blackboard to spread also literacy, besides propaganda.
Haarez1 3 months ago
@Haarez1 Thanks for proving my point that you can only attack character and have no substance...
Wow, you corrected a typo! You're a genius! Liberals are absolutely brain dead and cant do anything without conservatives....You fail at life...Peace!!
BTW I don't care about Glenn Beck lol, but as usual all you fools can do is say FOXNEWS, or KOCH BROTHERS, or BILL OREILLY, HANNITY..LMAO fucking clowns you are..go read a shit article by that pedophile Krugman HAHAHAHA
AroundSun 3 months ago
@AroundSun so is supply side theory, hopefully you're not an ideological slave
ToddGillies 3 months ago
@ToddGillies well, lets see...Suppliers of goods and services, create wealth. They are who PRODUCE things. The government produces nothing. They can only take from some and give to others distorting the process...So, you can't fund even one socialist plan without producers and a capitalist free market creating wealth and income.
