Not much of a video. Mostly black. Don't they believe in lights on their trains? I saw some on the front of some, but they obviousely don't do anything useful.
I refer you to the comments posted previously. The train does have headlights, however their primary function is to make the train visible to others. They are offset slightly towards the floor. And the clip was filmed using a 5.1mp digital camera without a flash so naturally the clip appears dark.
Love shots from the cab! I did wonder if I could use some of the footage to help market a map I've produced called 'tubular fells'. I'm producing a short presentation combining shots of trains in the Lake District with images from the London underground. The map, for your information shows Alfred Wainwright's 214 fells in the form of a topological, Harry Beck rendition. If I use the footage I'm sure I can give you a map as thanks. Anyway, whatever you think thanks anyway! Peter
The line speed on that particular section, between Archway and East Finchley, is 40mph. When the 1995 stock was introduced, their performance was capped to match that of the 1959 stock and thus avoid bunching of the service. The restrictions are still yet to be lifted. Thus, as a result of this and the uphill gradient approaching Highgate, it is almost impossible to get the speed above around 32mph. So no, the driver wasn't speeding.
@grumbler70 Isn't that going to be fixed when they roll out ATO on the northern line as the 1995ts is pretty much the same as the 1996ts but at this present time the 1996ts seems to have better acceleration and that explains why.
@voyanger : I believe that was the original plan but I've since been told that it's now going to be left as it is. Only the acceleration away from stations will be increased and maximum braking will be used on approach to stations and Block Marker Boards. I can't understand how LUL expect to cut journey times by 20% though, if they're not going to utilise the 1995 stock's full capabilities.
That is actually a very fast and well judged stop. Very good indeed.......using maximum brake for the stop board is a skill......certainly wasn't an ordinary Northern line finish!
Thank you very much! It's about maximising the train's braking capabilities, much like the ATO lines. I'm a great believer in the maxim 'let the train do the work', particularly when it comes to coasting. Too many drivers are constantly motoring and then braking and it just seems unprofessional.
oh so headlights are used, it would seem weird with no headlights on in the tunnel, and ive never been to a london underground so wondering where is the other track which goes the opposite way? is it just a one way line?
The headlights were on. They are automatically illuminated when the leading cab is 'live'. They're not very powerful though and on a low resolution clip like this it appears as if it is in complete darkness. This is not the case, however.
Officially they were built with a top speed of 62mph (100kmh), but because of signalling restraints they have been governed so they only operate at around 60-65% of their capabilities.
The line speeds for the Northern Line are as follows:
Morden-Archway/Golders Green via Bank: 35mph
Charing Cross branch: 30mph
Golders Green-Edgware:40mph
Archway-High Barnet/Mill Hill East: 45mph
It is worth remembering that these are general speed limits, not taking into account speed restrictions.
Are you serious, the Jubilee is due to go ato soon and when that happens it will become both boring and annoying. Boring because all you do is press start and open and close, and annoying because the sound effects that have been put into the 1996 stock are really annoying, even when in coded manual.

Jump2893 2 years ago
that would be in a seperate tunnel
321loverdesirohater 2 years ago
opposite way track is in the other tunnel which is near the this tunnel.
On some lines there is no separation, but on deep-level lines its separated
rob772788 2 years ago
The other tracks go in seperate tunnels and station platforms. At Westminster's Jubilee line station, I think they are even on top of each other!
Mal1024 2 years ago
Yep, they are
rob772788 1 year ago
@Jump2893 Lines generally run alongside each other but with a wall in between, giving the lines their own separate tunnels

wow is it REALLY that dark in the subway? That's pretty close to pitch black.
But if it is, I'd get one of those $50 50-million candle power flood lights and light that sucker up!! Just for fun of course.
