You can't "chase out" a wolf. You obviously don't know anything on the matter. Gun shots would repel them, but they would eventually come back for further investigation. I don't think we should kill all wolves and I'm not sure where you got that from, but it would be an idiotic idea. it said every year he alone killed 500 for 5 years, how can there be that many wolves if the only food source was livestock due to the lack of deer and other small animals they ate. It because of too much hunting of those animals there not enough food for wolve so they eat livestock so they have to kill the wolves untill there almost none left. btw you think after the first yr they ld have ended the wolf killing cause by then they would hv been back to a managable number.

Here's a better solution to the problem: hunters stop killing off all the deer and other natural prey for wolves, and then the wolves won't have to resort to preying on livestock to survive.

That's only part of the problem. Hunting doesn't have so much effect on wolf prey since hunters hunt large, strong deer while wolves take out the sick and old. Wolves instinctively go for whatever prey animal is weakest and most abundant so that they have very little effect on the prey population. Sheep and cows are targets because they long since lost most of their survival instincts and they're kept really close together. Seeing a big herd makes wolves think there are a lot of them.

Instead of stopping hunters, it would be more beneficial to slow down the expansion of our territory by building multi-level living areas or use contraceptives to prevent unwanted population.

I was hoping you'd do this one. This was one of my favorites -- I remember it was one of the first I read as a kid.

I didn't know until last year that this story was taken from another book. I was reading Musick's "Telltale Lilac Bush..." and after the story was over I said "Hmmm, that seemed familiar!" Of course her version is longer, but Schwartz captures most of the details.
