Any iron with controls will get hotter. Sure have burned myself with hot irons (especially when I'm in a hurry and when I worked in a busy salon), but not bad or anything like that. use a 1 inch curling iron i have hair a little past my shoulders and it looks great.Make sure when u curl a section of hair that its not too big. or u could use a little curling iron. just dont use the huge ones it doesnt look good with short hair

ya, my hair really hates to curl and when it does, it doesnt hold so I have to put all kinds of crap in it AND hold each curl for 20 seconds minimum. I wish I could just hold it for 5 seconds .

My hair is easy to curl but keeping the iron on low heat really helps save me from frying my hair:o) I can't imagine getting a good curl with only 5 seconds of heat though. XO Carolyn

How long you hold an iron in your hair, largely depends on how high you have the heat turned up!

I rarely use irons in my hair and always keep the heat low so I don't damage it:o)

anyway, its easier if you just get a normal curling iron, get a peice of hair, wrap it around the iron and hold it for like 5 seconds and let go of it. dont use the clamp. so much easier and its really cute!

Yep, I think I actually showed how to make spiral curls both ways. You do have to curl vertically to have spiral curls. I like using the special spiral curling iron cause it's just fun to use every now and again, especially if I only want a few spiral curls in my hair:o)

To make long lasting curls, you can go to my site and use the search tool. Use the keywords, long lasting curls. (there is a whole page about it...)

A great way to make curls last longer is to apply gel or mousse to your hair before you dry it. Dry your hair thoroughly, then curl it.

The curling iron I have is by Jibere of Paris. I bought it from Sally's. It has a temp control that has a wide range of heat settings. For long lasting curls, you really need gel in your hair. Apply it to damp hair and then blow dry your hair before you curl it. Hairsprays do help hold the curl but is not required. (You can spray your hair before and/or after you curl it) Thanks! Carolyn

Yeah, marcel irons are a bit hard to handle unless you practice alot. Who has time? The only thing I don't like about spiral irons is that you have to do small sections. If you have a lot of hair, it can be very time consuming. You can get spiral results using a regular barrel curling iron that isn't too large. (1" or 2" max) For a twist, mix spiral curls with regular curls or only have a few spirals on straight hair. The point is, that you don't have to spiral curl all your hair. Good luck! XO

The Conair spiral curling iron could get tedious with thick hair. It only does smaller sections well unfortunately. However you can do small sections of spirals with larger sections or roller style curls. Alternate them for a great, unique look. I've even used one or two spiral curls on top of straight hair around my face to draw attention to my large eyes. If you want to spiral curl all of your hair, use a regular 1 - 1.5" curling iron and do your curls vertically.
