Edge was scheduled to beat Kane at GAB and go on to hold the title for a while, Vince wanted him to have a decent reign instead of him being a caretaker champion. As it turns out, Edge got injured anyway.

@Stonecold8911 Still don't rule out the fact that Kane was a jobber to the stars and wasn't a favourite to win the MITB ladder match at the MITB PPV. Kane has stepped up his game and is probably getting praised dearly for his "upped game" in this surprisingly enjoyable Kane/Undertaker feud.
