i was at this race. we were all really worried about kubica. there was no announcement about his condition during the race. it was only when they sprayed champagne on the podium that i knew he must be ok. we heard later it was just a broken ankle and he left the hospital the same morning we left montreal.
Right, i know i've posted a few comments to various people about Robert's recent physical state, and when/where he will return to F1. I regret to inform you that reports from Italy say he has broken his leg after slipping on ice. This could severely damage his bid to return to F1 in the near future. Sorry. (Don't Shoot The Messenger)
"He is moving his hands"...what a stupid comment by Brundle - he is not moving his hands, idiot, even a blind person could see that! Kubica survived, that's important. But i think he is not a loss for F1, there a a lot of good drivers actually, nobody was talking about Kubica...and be real, if someone is talking about Kubica it is just because his accident. In my opinion Kubica is mid-talented driver.
@jigglediggle29 I think kubica is a really talented driver, but he just hasn't got the car to win races. If he did, he would be up there with webber, button, alonso, vettel and hamilton. On things for sure, he is a future champion, maybe even multiple chmpion
Wow. 4 years and I never noticed (and never seen anywhere else) that the front of the monocoque shattered. His feet are sticking up out of the car.. Scary.
@trustrey619 Fortunately he survived, going on to win this very race the next year. He was in a horrible accident at the start of this year, almost losing one of his hands. Hopefully he will be back in the cockpit for 2012.
@09rob12341 Most people had thought that for a while, but i was disappointed for it to be announced by on the TV. Kubica is probably one of the best drivers on the grid and it'll be a loss to motorsport if he doesn't return in 2012.
@FormulaVid I know, sad stuff. Even though i'm a mclaren fan, i always liked Kubica, especially after winning here the following year. Such a shame. Hopefully Brundel and Coulthard are wrong and he's back in time for next season.
@09rob12341 What I heard is he will miss 2012 but be ferrari test driver for tht year, he will return in 2013 for sure, I hope he gets a drive later in 2012, but he may move to ferrari in 2013, replacing massa
@nightmare2271 Hmm where did you hear that? From what i've heard is that he will miss the start of the season cos Kimi Raikkonen and Roman Grosjean are confirmed for Lotus (Formerly Renault-Lotus) but if one of them is under performing Robert can step in fot that driver at any time.
@nightmare2271 Not officially, but Lotus-renault are keen for him to drive again. If he moves to Ferrari it will be in 2013 season as Ferrari already have confirmed there 2011 racers are both still racing for them in 2012, however there is speculation of a free seat in 2013, but depending on next season performance at McLaren, Hamilton could be taking that seat. Good 2012=More Mclaren for Lewis. Bad 2012=Ferrari for Lewis.
@TheV12ferrari Not sure how you've heard that, but his team have already announced their drivers for next year (Raikkonen + Romain Grosjean) but if Grosjean sucks cock, Kubica may slot back in mid seaon.
@09rob12341 Well if Kubica won´t return in 2012 aswell so do i hope him the best and that he really will replace Massa in 2013, which can be hard if he doesn´t get the chance to proove how good he is.
And we all know that he is a really really good drive that really deserves to replace Massa at Ferrari
@TheV12ferrari It's all up in the air with Kubica, no-one is ruling anything in or ruling anything out, but to be honest he shouldn't have been allowed to race in that rally....
@trustrey619 yes, Robert Kubica died in this horrid accident. It was his identical twin who raced for BMW in 2008 and 2009 and then went on to race for Renault in 2010 and as a Test driver for Renault in 2011. His name was Robërt Kubica who did that. Robert Kubica died. Yes.
FYI: If your watching this video, you must have some interest in F1. You must have known.
@TheMusaz58 Indy is probably the most unsafe of all racing leagues and categories, after Zanardi lost both his legs in a crash, they said they would "improve" driver security by re-enforcing the driver's cockpit (the weakest part of the car)... surely it shows that whatever they modified wasnt really an improvement, if it is indeed that they actually modified it, i dont follow Indy racing anymore, i used to, until (my) countryman died in a practice run while making his move to Indy from form1 jr
@TheMusaz58 Garbage (not on the safety I don't disagree, but on which was worse) Wheldons was much faster, and he hit the fence with the cockpit area. if you look at the Wheldon crash, Pippa Mann, JR Hildebrand, Will Power and Townsend Bell all have Kubica style crashes where its the car itself that hits the wall. Imagine if Kubica had flipped before that initial flying impact, then you would have a comparable crash.
The commentators sounds like they've been taking sedatives - Murray Walker would have gone berserk in the booth. "I can't believe what's happening visually, in front of my eyes!"
@harrunostasj There is and will only ever been one Murray Walker, nobody can pull off his style the way he did, he was a one off. James Allen, John Legard & Martin Brundle had to have their own styles. Personally i've always thought Ben Edwards was Murrays natural heir.
The first thing I noticed when I watched this is that the commentators didn't sound shocked. Their tone of voice was as if he'd had a less serious crash. The way that Kubica crashed you would have thought they would have said something like "OH MY GOD".
@andi4life yea.... Senna hit the wall at 230 kph... much slower than kubica did (I think around 290)... but kubica was fine after that, just knocked out for a bit and thats it really (I think).
@merboberbo You've also got to remember that this is a live broadcast, so the presenters have to say things like that to keep the people watching at home and at the circuit calm and lessen the shock. Similar things were said at the Senna crash and even the Ratzenberger crash despite the fact they were doing chest compressions on camera.
I was sitting right there, row 1, scared the crap out of me. In fact I'm the first person you see run to the top of the stairs. I really thought he was fatally injured. Thank God I was wrong. Hope to see you back in an F1 car for 2012 Robert!!
@Schumifreak9 This is a serious accident. He struck the barrier at such speed that the impact generated 122G. Most people are killed at 100G. Also, this is one of the crashes with the most debris I have seen. The only ones with more that come to mind are wedw savages brutal Indy500 crash, Kenny Brack's crash at Texas and Pat Bedard's crash at indy, all of which are insane.
wow wot a crash almos like a toboggen and what was gr8 was his interview at the next race when he was asked did u c the kcrash and he said yes and they said did u c it lie yes whie i was in the car i wonder he wasnt sick but look wot happened a year after he won and wot a great headline that was a pole on pole lets hope hes back near the end of year or maybe next year
