Snub TV's best performance. I remember seeing this in either 1989 and 1990 and immediately rushing out to buy Barberous English Fayre and Dandelions. INCENDIARY.
i tried to get it on cd a few months ago with original cover , i couldnt afford it in the end it went for over £80 on e bay, you can download all their albums on itunes
I saw this clip on SNUB TV in about 1988 and it really put the hook in me. Me and my mates used to fuck lessons off and go and sit in school library playing KOTS ,VBB EP.
absofukinlutly. nothing phoney going on here, pure unique power....outstanding uncompromised genius, stunning words, music, no other band did this, cud do this, or will ever do it. why? coz they were in a world of there own, sum were calling it Madchester, this band played with it 4 a while but nothing cud put there heart into it, this was there heart and soul, they were unique and a little 2 clever, but always souded dangerous to me. God! they were good.
I was convinced at the time that KotS were the best band in Manchester and hearing them again now reminds me that, actually, they probably were. I discovered them via seeing this clip on Snub TV so it's good to see it again. Seeing them live was the only reason I ever went into that overrated hole the Hacienda :>
thank you thank you thank you. I've got the video for 'It's Dead Smart' somewhere ont tape and kept meaning to convert and upload it. You've inspired me to do so...
Genius - KotS were unique and one of the best bands of that era - I was there that night (circa 88,89?) and can embarrassingly be seen wigging out. They had a big Alsatian dog that used to go on tour with them! Eeeek!
James Cashan (bass) and Gary Sparkes (guitar)are both Irlam Lads, Met them years ago in the pub, Been to talking to james recently online, a top bloke, cousin of a mate. My old mates are at the front in this one when they all had hair to shake about haha.
brilliant band, best lyricist in manchester at the time. King of the slums, got a cd last year by Slum Cathedral User supposed to be the same band, think it is; its full of different stuff, outstanding original band, 15 unreleased tracks coming out????? when???? more info please!!!
Yes, it's from Snub TV, I just bought the LP from Cherry Red to replace my overly loved and battered vinyl copy. Wonderful band.. Venerate them utterly !
The track's actually called Fanciable Headcase from the 'Barbarous English Fayre' album which you can now buy drm-free from cherry red records website along with both of KoTS albums. I've just heard cherry Red are also in negotiations with the band to release 15 unreleased tracks soon.

Bloody brilliant! powerful, and as usual -excellent lyrics. What a shame they were passed over for some of the shite that gets paraded as quality.

Distorted, propulsive, violin-driven art-rock from sunless Salford sadly lost in the grinning swill of Madchester.

It is, a semi-classic after all this time: gatta love the way that that the strings scratch around the vocals.
