  • magic

  • I had forgotten just how good this really was.

  • Bombs away on Harpurhey! I once had it away with the bassists girlfiriend and that somehow sounds like a KOTS lyric in itself

  • king of the slums have so much in common with the sex pistols, but sweet fuck all to do with oasis.....

  • well, that's a bit fuckin special.

  • Best from this lot was 'Leery Bleeder'.

  • Their best song was "Big girls blouse"

  • Bloody brilliant! powerful, and as usual -excellent lyrics. What a shame they were passed over for some of the shite that gets paraded as quality.

  • great album...

  • great album....

  • Ha! Ich glaub, ich lern Geige. I like this. Great song from this band.

  • Snub TV's best performance. I remember seeing this in either 1989 and 1990 and immediately rushing out to buy Barberous English Fayre and Dandelions. INCENDIARY.

  • Simply superb

  • Still corrosive. Still accurate. Still brilliant.

  • Distorted, propulsive, violin-driven art-rock from sunless Salford sadly lost in the grinning swill of Madchester.

  • Yeah - boardwalk

    Just spotted myself in audience

They don't make music like this anymore - they should !

  • Truely wonerful stuff. Was this filmed at the Boardwalk, does anyone know ?

  • Aye, the Boardwalk, Manchester, one Saturday night, early 1989.

  • Fucking unbelievable! Still.

  • It is, a semi-classic after all this time: gatta love the way that that the strings scratch around the vocals.

  • Still one of my favourite tracks.

  • more KOTS! more! there must be.

  • try e bay for that song....get the new album!!!!

  • kots were abso awesome BEF is my fave uk release-if anybody likes this try BASEBALL a melbourne band superb live

  • Very under-rated band.

  • garrys on guitar adams on bass who,s on drums ?

  • the drummer

  • Jon Chandler is playing bass on this Snub TV extract - he also played on all the tracks on Barb English Fayre.

  • the real jon?

  • Yes.

  • I saw this clip on SNUB TV in about 1988 and it really put the hook in me. Me and my mates used to fuck lessons off and go and sit in school library playing KOTS ,VBB EP.

Thanks a lot for posting this.

  • IIRC, same episode as the first time I saw Fugazi and possibly My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. KOTS just blew my mind!

  • Boardwalk, Manchester, oashis, Stone Roses, happy, Mondays, The, Fall. Smiths

This lot shit on em all.

If you want the direct descendants of Joy Division (apart from New Order) this is them. Punk as is was.

    enjoy

  • absofukinlutly. nothing phoney going on here, pure unique power....outstanding uncompromised genius, stunning words, music, no other band did this, cud do this, or will ever do it. why? coz they were in a world of there own, sum were calling it Madchester, this band played with it 4 a while but nothing cud put there heart into it, this was there heart and soul, they were unique and a little 2 clever, but always souded dangerous to me. God! they were good.

  • I was convinced at the time that KotS were the best band in Manchester and hearing them again now reminds me that, actually, they probably were. I discovered them via seeing this clip on Snub TV so it's good to see it again. Seeing them live was the only reason I ever went into that overrated hole the Hacienda :>

  • "Music to saw your leg off to" said Terry Christian. Damn right.

  • thank you thank you thank you. I've got the video for 'It's Dead Smart' somewhere ont tape and kept meaning to convert and upload it. You've inspired me to do so...

  • please do so....would love to have a look at that.

  • here

  • Genius - KotS were unique and one of the best bands of that era - I was there that night (circa 88,89?) and can embarrassingly be seen wigging out. They had a big Alsatian dog that used to go on tour with them! Eeeek!

  • where are they from exact in manchester?

  • according to the web they formed in either Salford or the Hulme area of Manchester.

  • James Cashan (bass) and Gary Sparkes (guitar)are both Irlam Lads, Met them years ago in the pub, Been to talking to james recently online, a top bloke, cousin of a mate. My old mates are at the front in this one when they all had hair to shake about haha.

  • best band to come out of manchester

  • great to see- remain one of my favourite bands even tho like many, dance music took over (for a bit)

    21 year on tour anyone?

  • brilliant band, best lyricist in manchester at the time. King of the slums, got a cd last year by Slum Cathedral User supposed to be the same band, think it is; its full of different stuff, outstanding original band, 15 unreleased tracks coming out????? when???? more info please!!!

  • Yes, it's from Snub TV, I just bought the LP from Cherry Red to replace my overly loved and battered vinyl copy. Wonderful band.. Venerate them utterly !

  • @catechstrophy It is a shame that they never took off.

It;s a great track to listen and to dance to - rare mix.

  • The track's actually called Fanciable Headcase from the 'Barbarous English Fayre' album which you can now buy drm-free from cherry red records website along with both of KoTS albums. I've just heard cherry Red are also in negotiations with the band to release 15 unreleased tracks soon.

(anyone know if this was the performance from SnubTV?)

  • Long forgotten brilliance. Good to see it here.
