I have to point out something for the benefit of the aviation nuts watching... This is a lot more than 200m takeoff roll. It's about 4000. If you look, he starts roughly at the end of the 1000' Precision Approach marks on the runway. (Big white rectangles) and then actually rotates at the 5000 ft marker. (Black sign with a white 5 in it.) That's about 1520m.
there's is credit to the design though we're sure that its not really a unique and valid original one. the description is misleading because its not vertical take off as referred to what Harriers and F-35 can do. its a VSTOL (very short take off/landing) aircraft so let it be corrected.

A F22 is never been used in heat of battle nor all its secrets totally exposed. It is a computer wonder which will never be touched by any fighter jet. Thats a FAR stretch comparing the jets together.
It's a pity there's not a single loop or maneuver fully visible in this video. It's all cut into pieces and most of the time we see low fly-by's. Even the "200 m" rolling distance to take-off are not shown without a cut in the video. Climbing vertically right after the start isn't that impressive anymore, not today. As an example, the Eurofighter makes a loop right after the start finishing it with a 1000 ft height gain. Others, like the Rafale or F-22 woud perform quite similartly, I guess.
I can see that China's rise has caused a lot of negative as well as positive reviews... Although they are still not as advanced as the U.S, but they are catching up fast... Just think how many countries can build an 4th generation jet independently... I believe in among 200+ countries, only about 20+ country can do that......by themselves. J-10 Eurofighter copy demonstrates excellent maneuverability that the EF has already demostrated before...only better. If China can copy all those great planes, why not make one themselves?
eh, J-10 is not based on Eurofighter. Its instead based on the Israeli Project LAVI. The Israelis never completed it. China bought over the blueprints and the leftover stuff and turned into the domestically produced J-10. Developing a new aircraft from stratch needs billions of dollars, so license production of aircraft seems the better way. US central Intel states they believe the PLA has ablility to produce 5th-gen planes, just not the logistical methods to produce in large numbers

i've always liked this aircraft but so far the demonstrations have been less than impressive. I don't know if China is just unwilling to dazel crowds at airshows or if their afraid the pilots might break something but everything i have seen doesn't demonstrate excellent maneuverability.
The Super-10 version (which already flew last year) is much more advanced. The super-10 incorporates more technologies and is considered an early 5th-gen fighter.
J-10B is NOT Super-10. J-10B is just a small upgate from A mod. Super-10 has so many change it's should be call aleast C/D.
J-10B is the mode that should be near Eurofighter,not otherway around. Super-10 config is better then Eurofighter,but still not as good as US F-22. Ofc PLAAF don't really need F-22 type of fighter,cost way too much to be really usefull.

Due to the fact the country would need that many with the F-35 joint strike fighter coming out to be able to do most of the work needed for each individual branch. The F-22 is far from a joke. You can't get these things off the shelf and even if you could, you have to design complex software for each of them. The Chinese are at least 20-40 years behind the US... and a few decades behind the Russians.

Do not be surprise to find out some avionic on F22 are interchangeable with those on F/A18E. The J-10 was based of off stolen schemes of the 1980's style F-16, and has not been upgraded to the magnitude the rest of the worlds aircraft has, has had NO combat experience and has never flown against anything other than f-105's or old F-4's, this plane is old, not 1/10 as agile as the worlds super powers olddest aircraft and would be shot down in bunches in battle. the top fighters in the world

@Chopin742 I just watched the video you alluded too, and am pretty baffled. F-14 was basically doing circles in the sky, and I don't see anything that you would call excellent maneuverability. The F-10 in this video does at least two things that merit that description: the 70-80 degrees takeoff angle; and the slow speed low altitude cruise.
The J-10B upgrade (which will enter service 2009) will feature 3D Thrust-Vector Control, AESA, DSI, better canards, internal weapons bay, and MUCH MORE.
It is on the same level as the F-35 Lightning II.

I have to point out something for the benefit of the aviation nuts watching... This is a lot more than 200m takeoff roll. It's about 4000. If you look, he starts roughly at the end of the 1000' Precision Approach marks on the runway. (Big white rectangles) and then actually rotates at the 5000 ft marker. (Black sign with a white 5 in it.) That's about 1520m.

It's a pity there's not a single loop or maneuver fully visible in this video. It's all cut into pieces and most of the time we see low fly-by's. Even the "200 m" rolling distance to take-off are not shown without a cut in the video. Climbing vertically right after the start isn't that impressive anymore, not today. As an example, the Eurofighter makes a loop right after the start finishing it with a 1000 ft height gain. Others, like the Rafale or F-22 woud perform quite similartly, I guess.

I can see that China's rise has caused a lot of negative as well as positive reviews... Although they are still not as advanced as the U.S, but they are catching up fast... Just think how many countries can build an 4th generation jet independently... I believe in among 200+ countries, only about 20+ country can do that......by themselves. Compare China in the 50's and the China now... They advanced very rapidly throughout all these years... And for the years to come...... Good luck to China....

@HongLJ J-10 is an Israeli Lavi. The design was bought from Israel, Israel developed it with the United States based on F-16 Chassis, J-10 is not even close to F-16 in combat capability. eh, J-10 is not based on Eurofighter. Its instead based on the Israeli Project LAVI. The Israelis never completed it. China bought over the blueprints and the leftover stuff and turned into the domestically produced J-10. Developing a new aircraft from stratch needs billions of dollars, so license production of aircraft seems the better way. US central Intel states they believe the PLA has ablility to produce 5th-gen planes, just not the logistical methods to produce in large numbers

i've always liked this aircraft but so far the demonstrations have been less than impressive. I don't know if China is just unwilling to dazel crowds at airshows or if their afraid the pilots might break something but everything i have seen doesn't demonstrate excellent maneuverability.

This is the J-10A version.
The Super-10 version (which already flew last year) is much more advanced. The super-10 incorporates more technologies and is considered an early 5th-gen fighter.

J-10B is NOT Super-10. J-10B is just a small upgate from A mod. Super-10 has so many change it's should be call aleast C/D.
J-10B is the mode that should be near Eurofighter,not otherway around. Super-10 config is better then Eurofighter,but still not as good as US F-22. Ofc PLAAF don't really need F-22 type of fighter,cost way too much to be really usefull.

The production cost is what stopped the f-22 mainly. Due to the fact the country would need that many with the F-35 joint strike fighter coming out to be able to do most of the work needed for each individual branch. The F-22 is far from a joke. It's years ahead from most countries jets with just it's computer systems let alone it's stealth capabilities.

@Xterraman Dear man, F-22 cost $ 200 million upwards apiece. Now even if USAF could reduce unit cost by half and ordered 700 of them they would go bankrupt. Raptor needs such conditions for its coatings that for every 1 hour of flight it requires $55,000 of maintenance work. No country can induct such a costly fighter massively.
It will take next 30 years at least before entire air forces are turned 5th generation and 6th gen is researched.

You don't know much about avionics or the hardware and software which is specifically designed for aircraft do you? LOL Aircraft like the F-22 have hundreds of computers in them, most of which are both redundant unique designs that only do certain things in certain areas of the aircraft. You can't get these things off the shelf and even if you could, you have to design complex software for each of them. The Chinese are at least 20-40 years behind the US... and a few decades behind the Russians.

Do not be surprise to find out some avionic on F22 are interchangeable with those on F/A18E. For the control system, software wise, yes, you need to costume build, hardware wise, for the circuit, may be. Electronic component. Mostly NOT. Simple math, money problem. Oh, mind I tell, computer is just around 40+ years. Chinese do not use vacuum tube for computer now.

@Chopin742 I just watched the video you alluded too, and am pretty baffled. F-14 was basically doing circles in the sky, and I don't see anything that you would call excellent maneuverability. The F-10 in this video does at least two things that merit that description: the 70-80 degrees takeoff angle; and the slow speed low altitude cruise.

The J-10B upgrade (which will enter service 2009) will feature 3D Thrust-Vector Control, AESA, DSI, better canards, internal weapons bay, and MUCH MORE.
It is on the same level as the F-35 Lightning II.
Pakistan bought the J-10Bs under the designation (FC-20).
