he's not making it in the same tempo of the song, right? because i just created the effect with the same tempo he's using in this video but the tempo in the song goes faster..someone has an idea of what i'm talking about?..blessings!
@GIOketeimporta He's doing it impromptu mate. He's hitting the strings in tempo with what's he's put in (eighths) Try it with the tempo of the record intro and you'll do fine. Cheers
@chungmanchang It's a Boss DD-5. Unfortunately they don't make that pedal anymore but you can still find them around. It's a classic pedal and the dotted eighth effect (the effect MIchael Guy Chislett is using here) sounds perfect on that pedal. He is tapping the rhythm in with a Boss FS-5U pedal which is sold separately.
can you get this type of delay setting on a line6 DL4 delay ?? I´ve actually played a concert with no dotted 8 delay on this song. plucked every singel pluck lol
hey sultaofeliz it depends on what delay pedal you have..if you have the dd-5 then michaels will work exactly the same but if you have the dd-6 or dd-7 then put feedback less then half way and effect level about one o'clock...hope this helps..oh yeah you need a tap tempe footswitch :)
@fremy123 I have a telecaster,(in bride position) , but if I use the Boss BD (mid drive) + marshall Gov´nor (mid drive) + wah wah pedal full open : I get very close to his sound. you should try it, you get that dry gretch sound doing just that!
@fremy123 actually bro not to be boastful or anything but i use a gibson les paul with it's humbuckers and I got the tone down with a modded ibanez ts9. I won't lie my Grestch Pro Jet was so much easier to get the tone with but eventually after i experimented with some pedals (for hours) i got it :) Nigel Hendroff played with a les paul supreme for a couple years but if you need any help feel free to inbox me. God Bless
@FREACE1965 for some reason it's not working.. dotted quarted. i'm not getting the immediately delay sound. my understanding is that i can just do down strums...don't have to do alternate picking right?
Why did Boss discontinue the DD5? DD7 seems cool, but the DD6 was one of the worst designs ever. Who wants to hold the pedal down for two seconds to get tap? Lame.
Anyway, cool vid. I use the DD5 also. It doesn't really have any cool features like modulation or analog or tape sounds, but the delay is nice and aggressive. Perfect for this kind of guitar part.
Damage Control Timeline is another delay I want to get. Sounds incredible.
Does anyone know what distortion/overdrive pedal would be best to play songs from Hillsong? and also what is the difference between analog and digital delay? thanks
@serve4life The Hillsong guitarists seem to use more TS-9 sounding overdrive pedals. MGC uses one modded by Keeley. They also use a Sparkle Drive. They will often use 2 drives at the same time. The cliche about analog vs digital is analog is warmer. The Hillsong guys like the Boss DD5 (no longer made) because they can set it to mode9 (dotted 8th) and use an external pedal to tap in the tempo. They can use this external tap to sync two delays with different settings to run at the same time.
So he just programs the tap tempo on the fly? That's pretty cool. As a guitarist that mainly just plugs straight into the amp, the idea of these stomp boxes are becoming more and more intriguing.
maan... I liked this video verymuch..had help me to play this music...buut..he could show these efects and execute all the introdution...... how can I take his contact..God Blees you..
what would i type in on musicians friend to find the thing at the front of the pedal board where you hook your pedals through and you can tap them on and off there?
absolutely, although I have heard they're also using DD7s in ADDITION to the dd5. The dd5 is just hard to beat...I love mine. The only thing that would replace is like a $500 boutique delay that does the same thing.
Does anyone know a good setting for a Line 6 XT Live? I'm having quite a bit of trouble setting the distortion, amp, and delay correctly... Any help will be greatly appreciated. I play at church this Sunday so hopefully I can get it before then.
i can help ive had the xt live and now i have a pedal board with stompboxes...1st for your amp get a good clean sound to your liking...choose maybe the matchless or vox or fender amp model. for distortion choose the classic distortion for overdrive choose tube screamer and now for your delay you can choose digital or analog, i think its the digital one and just get it to dotted eighth notes and your set...good thing is that you got a tap tempo on there to be on time with the drummer..i help?
Set the delay to dotted quarter notes and then set the tap button to control the delay tempo. Then you just tap quarter notes on the tap button and play palm muted quarter notes and you have the United/U2 delay sound
Right, but he taps on a dotted eight setting that I dont have. So what do I do? Just tap the dotted eighth? anyone have any the same problem... feels like i have to tweak a million times to get it right.
can you do this on a dd6? My cousins didn't know that I wanted a dd5, and bought me the dd6... so as not to hurt their feelings I kept it, but no external tap mechanism... :[
umm i have a line6 dl4 delay and im new to delay, what would i set that to? it has setting like digital delay, rythmatic delay, ping pog, wich one do i use? and what do i set the timeing to?
i think it the third dot on delay time. but the only down fall about the rythmatic delay is that it has a really dry delay. so you won't get all the juice that you hear on this vid. i would just buy a dd5. :)
It is a Boss DM-2 (analog delay) the dice knob on the pedal is the Repeat Rate of the delay. I am not sure if you have heard the United We Stand album but in it he uses that pedal a fair bit. It's like a warp effect almost.
but isn't he picking eighth notes? how is he picking eighth notes and only tapping quarters? wouldn't you need to pick eighth notes and tap out eighth notes with an eighth note delay to get 16ths?
not if you're tapping quarters on a dotted 8th delay setting (which is what setting 9 on a dd5 is) after the first repeat it's filling in the gaps between his notes to create the illusion of him playing 16ths. the dd5 has a few settings which give you different delays when you tap quarter notes. hope this makes sense haha!
i love my fulldrive 2. can't say enough about it. i've got one of the old premosfet ones. it's great. 110 with shipping. it's was a blem (minor paint malfunction. nothing internal is wrong.) but i can't find a problem with it.
im getting a vox ac-15, but i dont know which one to get. the one with wharfdale speakers or the one with celestion alnico speakers? can anyone help??
The version with celestion blue is better because of the speaker so if you can afford it, buy it. I own AC15 non-alnico blue combo and it really rocks! Be prepared for a very bright sound if you are using Fenders with single coils...
it's a matter of preference really play them both and see what you like better. i'd love to get an ac15 and drop some golds in it. blues are really bright.
doesn anyone know which pedal sounds better, the boss dd-5 or the dd-7? cuz i noticed that the guitarists in hillsong have only the dd-5, and i was thinking cuz it maybe sounds better.
im not sure about the DD-3 but find the setting closest to 800ms and then you might have to adjust the knobs to get it exact..im not sure if dd-3 has a tap option..i don't t think so..GOD BLESS!
hey, i really like gretsch, but im not sure which kind to get. does anyone have any suggestions of some gretsch's that would be good for playing hillsong stuff??
Hi vezza basically these are ur choices when it comes to gretsch..hollowbody series with older classic pickups or duo or power jet series with more hotter pickups..our bro here is using a black penguin (very expensive) which comes with a Dynasonic single coil pickup..or u can also get what Nigel uses nowadays which is a Power jet with a TV JONES pickup which is a hotter version of a Filtertron pickups..The hillsong boys use everything from hollowbody gretsch to powerjet like Nigel. GOD BLESS!
Personally I've owned the Powerjet like the one Nigel has..but I found it abit too hot sounding for me..so i've got a 57 reissue which is a duo jet with a dynasonic pickup like our bro in this video..but 1/3 less the price lol GOD BLESS!
lol, see i always thought gretsch's were more soft sounding, so iwasnt really sure if i was gonna get one then change the pickups, cuz that would cost a lot of money. but for now, ill stick to my strat xD
If you get a tap tempo pedal..you can set the pace of the song or the band..but as for the setting..it depends on the BOSS delay pedal you've got..for example..on dd-7 its got a 800ms setting which is a dotted 8 and as for other pedals in the series find a setting (ms) closest to the 800ms setting and tap into it..GOD BLESS!
hey thanx for the settings on the delay pedal..but just wondering what's the name of that guitar?? is it a duojet of some sort?? I want to get one.. thanx
the pedal he's tapping at the end is a Boss TS-5U. he attaches that to the DD5's tempo input and just taps out the tempo of the delay in dotted 8th's. i have the same delay and tap attachment, its really really useful.
yeap!!! i use it with a prs and sometimes use it mixing with a variax 700... that is crazy playing with acoustic(metal) in variax and some strings(vg-33)... but is a colorfull sound at churches
lazy. I trill during the intro

dd5 is mono.
dd7 is stereo.
it depends on what you want to do. do you split your signal between 2 amps or amp and the house mix? if not, then you don't need the dd7.
the dd5 can be around 50 bucks if you look hard enough. the dd7 is about 160 online. most local guitar shops would probably sell for 120 or lower.

hey, i really like gretsch, but im not sure which kind to get. does anyone have any suggestions of some gretsch's that would be good for playing hillsong stuff??
vezza94 3 years ago
Hi vezza basically these are ur choices when it comes to gretsch..hollowbody series with older classic pickups or duo or power jet series with more hotter pickups..our bro here is using a black penguin (very expensive) which comes with a Dynasonic single coil pickup..or u can also get what Nigel uses nowadays which is a Power jet with a TV JONES pickup which is a hotter version of a Filtertron pickups..The hillsong boys use everything from hollowbody gretsch to powerjet like Nigel. GOD BLESS!

yeah ive wanted the white penguin for a while, but there VERY expensive, so idk about that :P but yeah thanks man, God Bless!

What is the speed to delay? God Bless
PipinoRelientk 3 years ago
If you get a tap tempo pedal..you can set the pace of the song or the band..but as for the setting..it depends on the BOSS delay pedal you've got..for example..on dd-7 its got a 800ms setting which is a dotted 8 and as for other pedals in the series find a setting (ms) closest to the 800ms setting and tap into it..GOD BLESS!

hey does anyone know what the pedal that he taps at the end of the video is called??
vezza94 3 years ago
the pedal he's tapping at the end is a Boss TS-5U. he attaches that to the DD5's tempo input and just taps out the tempo of the delay in dotted 8th's. i have the same delay and tap attachment, its really really useful.

sorry i meant FS-5U***

can i use it on DD7 too?
junyoung0711 3 years ago
if it has the input for the tap tempo pedal you should be able to. im not too familiar with the dd7 but you should be able to.

the dotted 8th setting on the dd7 doesnt sound as good as the dd5
jerrylauj913 3 years ago
its the same pedal but the dd7 has more delay effects on it but it will have what a dd5 has... dd7 is just the upgraded version...
