I always prefered Sub-Mariner over Aquaman, at least Sub-Mariner has some use outside of water, he can fly and has super human strength and Sub-Mariner doesn't wear boots or a shirt under water!

It viciously bites our soon to be superhero. He screams in pain! Stumbling backward! In a split second, both men find themselves in a freefall!

Careening into a bomb testing sight where an explosion exposes our heroes to highly toxic gases! As fate would have it, magical stormclouds drove in! Zapping both men with a neon plaid lightning bolt! And raining radioactive ooze! This causes a powerful earthquake in a jungle!

Fling the two back to their apartment miraculously unharmed! Just when their popcorn is ready! The proceed with movie night! With slightly overcooked popcorn! Suddenly, an amazing reaction to the overcooked popcorn, it fills them with the power of supercosmic energy, metamorphisising Ernie into a very strong seastar

Always liked aquaman and felt that he got a bad rep. He has a few good villains just needs a solid writer for a while green lantern was considered 2ed rate then good writing developed him into the 3rd best hero dc has
Aquaman how he looks here is great, on Superfriends they drew him slightly different but same basic look. then later in Justice league he had a new make over with long hair a beared and a hook or spear tip on one arm. must have something to do with the comics but aside from Firestorm (in the 80's during the Superfriends time ) I didn't read other DC Comics.
From what I understand, Aquaman was created as a response to MARVEL's Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Can somebody please respond to this? What's the real story??
@SuperCartiel I'm not sure Aquaman is a real response to Namor since Namor came on the aquatic comic book scene by a full 2 years. Namor debuted in Marvel Comics #1, Oct 1939. Aquaman debuted in More Fun Comics #73, Nov 1941. But Namor did come out first and both heroes are water breathers. Other than that, they weren't all that similar. I could go on about the similarites and differences between the 2 aquatic champions but for the character limit :-) .

The origin for Aqauman that most comic book fans of any lvl know is him being a Atlantean/Human hybred. That puts Aqauman much closer to Namor. That origin was debuted in Adventure Comics #260, May 1959. Aquaman's original origin has him being a product of applied Atlantean science discovered in underwater ruins by his scientist father.

@brnleague99 All Aquaman needs to be crazy awesome is a competent writer, like Peter David in Aquaman's own mag or Grant Morrison in JLA. Grant's Aquaman took down a White Martian, who basically has Superman's powers plus a few Supes doesn't have. ^_^
Who's tougher: Aquaman or the Man From Atlantis? Sorry, when I was a kid we all had in depth discussions about this kinda stuff. Frankenstein v. Dracula, FrankenBERRY v. CHOCula, THE REAL Godzilla v. King Kong, Godzilla v. a Tyranasaurus, Wonderboy v. Robin, The Penguin v. The Joker, an ant colony I dug up from my back yard v. one from the other kid's back yard.... without the internet we had a lot of free time back then. Unfortunately, my wife won't have these discussions with me. =(
