This game is amazing! One of the few games that actually manage to scare me. When I say scare me I mean scare me, not chock me by poofing up out of nowhere with a loud scream/boom/noice. The whole atmosphere in this game is freaky and disturbing and will gnaw on you as you play.

It was released for the PC & Xbox. If you can find it, get it. It's a fantastic game (even tough it's a bit buggy). The first half of the game makes System shock 2 (and to a far far greater degree Silent hill) feel... well... not scary. The 2nd half of Call of cthulhu was a bit of a disapointment, but it was by no means bad.

For your sake, don't get it if you suffer motion sickness. The game relies on it for sanity challenging situations and it gives some people headaches and nausea. Personally I loved the game and the SAN check effects.

When I played this , the save points didn't work so if I died I had to start all the way back at the begining of the level.

it's because of a bug, u should read in official game's forum, there they tell how to make it work: it's a bug with Windows date format (the game creates a folder with the savegames, 4 example.: "Refinery 28-12-2007 1.35.22". So if ur Windows has kinda 28-12-2007 1:35PM format, it doesn't work.

So u have to go to Control Panel, Regional & Language Settings (or however it's called xD), -> Regional Options -> Personalize -> Time ("hour" or however it's called) & switch time to "H:mm:ss" format. The combination to the safe is in the Diary of Thomas Waite. He says he uses

the month, day and year of Ramona's birth as the four-digit combination. He

This game is frightening from start to finish. It's the whole game, everything about it, weaving a spell around the player so that you are always on edge, always uncertain about what's coming next. It is true to Lovecraft's dark vision. How many books/games/films can you say that about? Mind you, the scariest thing is the main character's voice acting. How any game developer could pay someone to sound so flat and lifeless...it must be the mind-warping power of the Mi-Go.

This game is based on a deeper psychological level than Doom 3. It has more of a storyline, uses ambient noises, more adult themed situations and so on. Doom 3 trys to scare you by using very little light and a shitload of monster popups.

This game would rank hundreds of times scarier than Doom 3. The textures are decent and the health pack system can be frustrating at times, but the atmosphere, the soundscapes, and the sheer psychotic nature of the game make it a much better experience overall, than Doom 3 (even though Doom had better graphics). It will haunt you.

It is on the PC, but strangely the run feature is disabled. You can only walk, which makes the chase sequences harder than the xbox version.
