@fridebloney It's still normal tuning, a capo only changes the key. And while technically that "E" is actually "F#" it's easier to simply call the cords by their open tuning name.
@Onewitnessus Lol yeah, but the guy who performed the song for the movie (Dan Tyminski) actually uses a capo. He plays it differently though, with the capo barring the 3rd fret as seen at the crossroads performance
@y0uRmOnKeY I did not know that I'll have to look at it because my ear tells me it's a drop D tuning with the B string taken up to a D as well (my ear can be wrong sometimes)
If you want to play it the way Dan does its in drop D with a capo on the 3rd fret. Acoustic Guitar Magazine had it tabbed out in one of their issues around the time the soundtrack was winning all those grammy awards.
Excellent! thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it, it helped me learn this song. And I have that same exact guitar model, a Martin D-15 Custom - spruce top, rosewood back and sides. Great guitar, I love it.
everyone I hear says the same thing "a easy song to play" I started 3 weeks ago after I retired. I just have trouble getting the rythmn down, I know the cords already. Got some really nice blisters the first week. I bought a electric first but could not match the tones. I bought a acoustic yesterday and still cannot match the tones. I think you did a very good job though. I will be back in a couple months
your lessons are great. your speaking and instruction are great. I've learned several songs with you before. Am just a beginner, but i can't get that B chord to sound right. from the cappo, it's the first finger 2nd fret on E string, and 3rd finger on 4th fret on A string, right? It sounds weird, checked my tuning. not sure. thanks
How do you say normal tuning and then use a capo??

@surfrider8900 from the capo - 2nd fret A string, 4ft fret G - Everything else muted. It is a power chord position of the B.
